I really enjoyed this book and now I absolutely must read the rest of the series! Jo Bartlett has developed lovely characters and relatable storylines. Thanks #NetGalkey #BoldwoodBooks
Another fabulous book in the series. I loved all the characters and the twist in the storyline. Hope there’s another one in this series too!
I absolutely adored this book and the journey it took me on. I was super excited to read it and it did not disappoint. My heart broke and swelled and I went through most emotions during the course of this book. It was really easy to read, and I loved the small links to the author’s previous books, especially the reappearance of characters. Would definitely recommend.
A beautiful, endearing story that you lose yourself within instantly.
The characters were brought to life in my mind wonderfully, and the storyline itself was perfectly structured and had me fully engrossed to the last page.
What a fantastic read. I absolutely love this series of books they get better and better full of great characters and also touch on so many important subjects which flow effortlessly through the story. A story of love, loss relationships but most important friendships that are formed ,its a beautifully written novel and highly recommended
I love Jo Bartlett’s writing, in particular her Cornish midwife series, but also the Cornish hospital, so I was pleased to return to St Piran’s.
The previous book in the series was my least favourite, but this book had me back on track. We continue to follow the lives of several of the staff, including looking forward to the arrival of Danni’s baby. This time the main storyline features head housekeeper, Wendy, who has a heart more forgiving and loving than most people as we discover Danni isn’t the only person expecting a much-wanted baby & Wendy isn’t the only person let down by her cheating ex-husband.
The topic of baby loss is handled in a very sensitive way by the author, through Wendy’s words & actions.
A heartwarming story of family, friendship & forgiveness.
Book four in the series, and while it was an okay read, I found it rather unbelievable compared to the others in the series.
This is a quick read, you can easily finish it in an hour or two. Very low angst, some romance elements, and the characters are delightful (apart from the one we are meant to dislike).
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
What a story, I loved reading about the wonderful midwives and I'm loving this series about the wonderful hospital staff just as much. I picked this up when I got on a flight and ended the flight crying as I finished the book. Such a turbulent story full of love, anguish and despair but a wonderful read that I highly recommend
Great catching up with all the characters once again, lovely storyline with some dramatic twists, a heart warming read that takes you through so many emotions
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'Lessons In Love At The Cornish Country Hospital' by Jo Bartlett.
Yet again, another absolute stunner from the extremely talented Jo!! Well done Jo on an absolutely beautiful and perfect read!! This is the ideal page turner where you could sit there and turn around and just imagine everything coming to life around you. I absolutely LOVE THIS SERIES
This book is extremely well written with beautiful descriptions that completely drew me in. The synopsis and the cover match the storyline perfectly!!
I fell in love with the first book in this series 'Welcome To the Cornish Country Hospital' and continued to fall in love deeper and deeper every time I read each book in this series. I have not finished book 4 and I swear this woman could write hundreds of books in this stunning series and I would read each and evry single one of them without getting bored!! Before I go deeper in to my review I would like to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Jo for including myself (Bookworm86) in your acknowledgements for the reviews I have written for your previous books. Being mentioned in a book has always been a dream of mine and it will never get old. It really does mean so much and knowing that authors like yourself read and than acknowledge my reviews in your book really makes my day so thank you so much!! Anyway, on with my review of this gorgeous page-turner!! I was a bit dubious after loving the first three books so much as I was wondering how on Earth Jo was going to make another book just as good. I mean come on after three books how can you keep coming up with such gems!!! Well, there was absolutely nothing to worry about as she didn't just make a book just as amazing but one that was even more addictive especially as I had already met many of the characters previously and it was like meeting back up with old friends again!! This fantastic addition to this series has yet another storyline that completely swept me away. I absolutely adored the storyline and getting to know the lives of so many different people, seeing their relationships and friendships change and see how they react to secrets, heartache, changes, romance and everything else that goes on in this absolutely fantastic read!! I adore the fact that this amazing series is mainly based around a hospital as I have yet to read another series let alone another book (apart from this series) set in a hospital environment and I was just fascinated by the different situations going on. Well I will just say now, why are you still wasting your time reading my review?? Just grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine, get comfortable and get lost in this stunning storyline now!! i went on holiday in the stunning St Ives in Cornwall in June and missed it before I read this book but OMG Jo has made me want to jump in the car and go straight back now!!! I am just so pleased I am returning next year and that Jo's beautiful book has transported me back to Cornwall for a little while in between! Jo's evocative writing skills ensures the readers are absolutely sucked into the stunning storyline with the atmosphere and characters coming to life all around them. I absolutely fell in love venturing back into Cornwall and Jo's vivid descriptions are absolutely perfect and evocative. I became so invested in this book that it actually felt like going on a holiday and I absolutely dreaded coming to the end where I had to unpack my suitcase and get back to reality. It was an absolutely compelling and addictive heart lifting read that kept me turning the pages until late at night. I loved discovering the pasts, secrets and histories of the characters and I was absolutely swept away in the story line. Everything and everyone came to life around me and I cannot wait to return in the next book in this absolutely stunning series. This book really was an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with friendship, family, drama, medicine, love, secrets, romance, heartache, emotions and everything you could ask for!!! The fact that Jo has done her research when it comes to the hospital environment and eating disorders completely shines through so a HUGE well done to Jo. She also covers the topic of eating disorders in a compassionate and manner, I know she states in her acknowledgment that she has had personal experience with this and I am so pleased that she has used this to bring the topic and weave it into a beautiful storyline while highlighting the difficulties surrounding it. It is a massive shame when authors don't do enough research into their chosen topics and/or environments and their books are then littered with unnecessary mistakes as it really can spoil a book that would otherwise be fantastic. This book is escapism at its best and is a perfect way to disappear into an amazing world for a while. It is one of those books that I just could not put down and drive everyone mad by walking around reading it every chance I got and ended up devouring it in one sitting!! This book would make an absolutely gorgeous movie which I would absolutely love to see!!
An absolutely gorgeous, page turning and addictive addition to a stunning series!! Don't even peek into this book until you've cleared your schedules as you won't be able to put it down!!
Although this is the fourth book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without reading the first two books. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
I became completely invested in the characters in the first book and I absolutely loved meeting the majority of them again and getting to know different characters more. The characters are realistic, larger than life and I absolutely loved meeting old and new faces again. They all had their own unique individual personalities and quirks. Every one of the characters had a part to play and they were all completely unforgettable. Jo ensures the reader feels, sees and senses everything that the characters do throughout. I was rooting for the happiness of every single characters from the moment I met them!!! I really enjoyed getting to know most of the characters, some from the start and others more, and when I came to the end I felt like I was leaving amazing people and new friends behind and felt quite sad about that but am happy in the knowledge that this book is just the fourth book in this absolutely stunning series and really hope Jo is busy writing the next "episode" as i am typing this, please don't make me wait too long Jo!! ! I just can't wait to get stuck into more of these gorgeous books. I loved watching how so many characters, relationships and personalities develop and change from the first page to the last. They all made me laugh, swoon, angry, cry, joyous and much more!!! Regardless of whether you love them or not all of these characters work perfectly together to make this a stunning page turner and I cannot wait to return to Cornwall to meet them all again!! Well done Jo on yet another absolutely stunning success!! I would also like to say another HUGE thank you in acknowledging and thanking me in your notes yet again, it means the absolute world to me and every word I have said about this book and the previous ones is 100000% true, genuinely one of the best and most stunning series' I have read!!! I really hope this stunning series will be made into a TV show as I will definitely be first n line to watch and get addicted to it!!
Congratulations Jo on an yet another absolutely gorgeous success!!! I'm definitely looking forward to my next holiday to Cornwall and cannot wait for the next book in this series!!! This is the exact reason you are in my favourite author club and here is to your next success 🥂 !!!
Overall this is yet another stunning addition to an absolutely gorgeous series with an amazing gang of characters that will sweep you away to the gorgeous coast of Port Kara, Cornwall from the very first page to the end!

Oh gosh, how to review this moving read?
So emotional, with folks and their different need.
There’s pregnancy problems, family dramas and more
As love, loss, jealousy and grief all cause furore.
Danni is a doctor in A&E
She’s also pregnant as readers soon see!
Treating patients and staying safe and calm
Endeavouring to right and harm.
Wendy works in the hospital, too,
She’s worried her daughters prefer their Dad’s partner who’s new.
His partner is Chloe and she’s pregnant, too,
And only a few years older than her daughters, what a to do!
A story showing assumptions may often be wrong
And unlikely folks may get along.
It is also about counting your blessings, too,
Making sure you appreciating those you love who also love you.
A drama filled story dealing with issues galore
As lessons in love the characters explore.
For my copy of this book I say thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.
We are back at St Piran’s Hospital and the fourth instalment of the Cornish Country Hospital series. This time we are back with Danni and she’s expecting a baby with Charlie. We also meet some new characters like Chloe, Wendy and Gary.
Oh this story had my heart from the very beginning. I loved being back with Danni’s journey to parenthood. As well as getting a story with Wendy and her ex husband’s new partner Chloe who she is jealous of but this story certainly has plenty of twists and turns too.
Jo just has a way of making me want to be a part of the communities she creates. They are beautiful and wholesome. She touches on some tough topics too, but with such sensitivity and awareness. I honestly didn’t want to leave everyone at St Piran’s hospital to be honest. I wasn’t expecting the story to go the way it did and I loved that 🥰💖
I highly recommend you read the whole series so far but especially ‘Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital’ it’s full of love, family and unexpected friendships 🤗
Thank you again Jo for including me in your long list in the acknowledgments this always brings a tear to my eyes. I adore all of your books and that’s never going to change ♥️
Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Life after divorce can be hard especially if the ex's partner is now expecting a baby.
Once again this story is crafted with compassion interwoven with a realism of life working in a hospital and challenges that those carers face not just in work but personally too.
Another lovely tale.
4.5⭐️
This feels like Casualty, Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Med all rolled into one. It was bloody brilliant and amazing.
It follows the stories of the workers at St. Piran Hospital. Wendy who has conflicting feelings about her kids’ closeness to her ex-husband’s partner.
Danni who is expecting and has unresolved feelings towards her mother. There are also minor characters who made some appearances.
It just felt like watching a medical drama. The descriptions of scenes from the Emergency Department and the cases of the various patients who come into through the doors were top notch.
This was perfectly written. The author captured the vulnerability of the characters and their emotions, actions and interactions were relatable and accurately reflected.
I had an issue trying to catch up with the so many names/ relationships and I think it would help if the previous books in the series are read.
If you love medical dramas and don’t mind reading them on the pages of a book then you will enjoy this.
Barlett's books are always a welcome distraction and Lessons in Love, the fourth in the series was just what the doctor ordered!
I love returning to Cornwall and St Pirans. All the best books are based in Cornwall aren't they?
The characters are always so lovely and it feels like we're returning to visit old friends and it's always a plus to catch up with the Cornish Midwives too - which incidentally is another fab series by Barlett.
A gorgeous, heartwarming read with family and friendships at it's core.
I finished reading last night and thoroughly enjoyed every second.
Many thanks to Rachel's Random
This is another fantastic series from Jo Bartlett so I was keen to see what everyone is doing in the fourth book set at St Pirans Hospital.
This time we focus on Wendy and her family; rekindling love with a childhood sweetheart following a difficult divorce leaves her feeling both very lucky and extremely happy, but she cannot help but feel pangs of hurt when her ex-husbands new girlfriend becomes close to her two daughters.
After initially feeling jealous of his young girlfriend Chloe’s bond with, she starts to see that actually Chloe isn’t the issue. Wendy’s family issues actually all go back to their Dad and his inability to commit to anything or anyone. When Chloe finds herself at her lowest and in need of support, Wendy finds herself stepping up to be the one Chloe can lean on. As the life they all know starts to unravel, can Wendy figure out a way to help everyone who needs it.
We also catch up with favourites from previous books. Danni’s pregnancy is nearing the end, she is excited about creating their own little family but also worry sets in that she will be like her own mother and not feel much of a maternal bond. She knows she can love, as she adores her Charlie but she is afraid that motherly love she craved as a child will pass her by as well.
When a situation escalates, Danni’s love is tested more than ever. Her dream has turned into a nightmare and she relies on the help of her friends and colleagues to make it end. Wendy has tried to do the best by everyone but has she missed signs of things being so dreadfully wrong, has she let everyone down?
A rollercoaster of emotions throughout, this tear-jerker will break your heart but also repair it. The community within the book is it’s heart, the friendships and relationships between characters are special. Some serious, upsetting themes used throughout but done so sensitively.
Another wonderful visit to this special, Cornish hospital/community.
Returning to the Cornish Country hospital, and to this special corner of Cornwall, is like meeting up again with old friends as we once again enter through the doors of St Piran’s to find all is activity and hustle and bustle. In this story we follow two characters Danni, the A &E doctor, as she meets the challenges which come her way and also we discover more about hospital housekeeper, Wendy, who has lots going on in her personal life, including being a rock of support to Chloe who is her ex-husband’s new partner.
The story draws a complex web highlighting the importance of love in all its forms, whether it be between partners, or between those people who aren’t related, and yet who become as important as family. The author weaves these intricate relationships so well and with such attention to detail that the characters come alive and it becomes easy to have an emotional connection, not just to the story but also to the characters themselves. With a realistic hospital setting also thrown into the mix the story tackles some difficult medical issues but does so in a considerate and sympathetic way which doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.
With love, loss, friendship and motherhood at its core, Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital once again shows the absolute strength and overall appeal of these delightful novels.
Lessons in Love at the Cornish Country Hospital is book #4 in the Cornish Country Hospital series by Jo Bartlett.
This is the first book I’ve read in this series and by this author. I had no trouble reading this as a standalone. This was an emotional book that I was drawn into immediately. I like the supportiveness between characters. It felt real with Wendy’s concerns about her daughters and Chloe. I really enjoyed this book and plan to catch up on this series.
Thank you to the author, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Lovely book with a few visits from the ladies from the midwife series which also adds to the fun if you have read those books.
Wendy is trying to get on with life even though her ex husband is now expecting a baby with his new girlfriend who is almost as young as her daughters. After meeting chloe at the hospital while she is having tests she gets chatting to her and can't help but like her. Chloe is struggling big time can she be the bigger person and help her.
Lovely story.
This book centers on Wendy, a hospital housekeeper navigating life after a difficult divorce. Now in a stable relationship, she struggles with body image issues and the fact that her daughters prefer spending time with her ex-husband’s younger, pregnant girlfriend, Chloe. Despite her insecurities, Wendy steps in to support Chloe during a tough moment at the hospital, showing her compassion. Meanwhile, Danni, a senior doctor, is balancing her demanding job while preparing for motherhood, with rising stress due to her lack of a support network. The story is filled with well-written drama, heartbreaking moments, and lovely instances of lightness and laughter, making it a perfect balance of emotion. The depth of the research adds realism to the medical and personal challenges the characters face. With its strong emotional connection, warmth, and humor, the book is a true page-turner, keeping readers engaged until its uplifting conclusion.
