I thought this was a good romance novel, and I found myself engaged in it most of the time. I would not read it again, and there were times where I zoned out, which is why I deducted a start.

I have a thing for a strong female. I like a story that gives me a bit of revenge and redemption. What I don't like is insta-love.
Insta-attraction? Yes, obviously, give me this. But it still felt a little insta-lovey to me.

Rae is getting out of an abusive relationship and the best way--in her mind--to do this was by way of karaoke? Okay, I'll bite.

Why? Why is this the method she chooses to display his atrocious behavior?
I don't have the answers here, but I do know the real love interest comes into play here. And that's when the story takes off.

So, if you look past the heavy subject matter, littered with 'meh' decision making, and an insta-love, then you've got yourself a story.
And it might even be one you enjoy.

I was not amazed by this story from the very beginning. I couldn't be sympathetic to the main character because she deliberately provoked her abusive ex and called herself purging the past. Really, she was poking the bear. The romance was cliched, along with character types and personalities, and didn't engage me. I really wanted to like this story, but the subject matter didn't work well with the tone and voice of the story.
