Everything that you ever wanted to know about the harm that is associated with our over consumption of sugar. Everything from nerve damage to debilitating diseases to how stem cells might solve the harmful effects of this human addiction. This book is well written and is very informative, but I was unable to adopt the authors infatuation concerning our sugar epidemic given the new sugar control drugs that are already flooding the market.
This is one of the books where I had to look up more about the author as I was reading it. Mostly because as it often happens, the solutions to problems that are so huge and seemingly unsolvable are so simple, so basic, that it makes it hard to believe it’s really that easy. Then your mind tells you (or, as in this case, my mind told me) that I have to look up if the author is a real person at all. Turns out, he is. And, turns out, he has enough experience and knowledge to have come to the conclusions he is outlined in the book.
Un-Glued is an informative read that dives into the world of sugar and its impact on our health. The book does a great job of explaining the risks of too much sugar without being too serious or overwhelming. I appreciated the light tone, which made the information easy to understand and enjoyable to read. Although it highlights the dangers of sugar, it didn't quite convince me to give up my sweet treats completely. Overall, it's a great guide for anyone looking to learn more about sugar, even if it won’t totally stop your cravings!
Unglued focuses on the harm sugar does to our bodies and introduces stem cell therapy as a potential treatment for sugar-related diseases. It also talks about the challenges of accessing this treatment.
While the book has some good insights, I find it simplifies the connection between sugar and autoimmune diseases.
Still, it's an interesting read for those curious about the effects of sugar on health.
Very good guide to help understand sugar and the dangers etc that come with it. Very insightful for those looking to learn more about health.
This is such an interesting look into the connection between sugar and stem cells, and how they can be beneficial. This book walks you through why sugar is so bad for us, what it can do to the body, how it affects health, and the role stem cells play in this. I think this was just a basic overview and could have been expanded upon more, and also contained a lot of fearmongering but the central message is definitely one we need to pay attention to.
Sugar is bad.
Stemcells are good.
Big Pharma is evil.
The End.
I normally switch off if a scientific book is shouty, repetitive or overly dramatic.
There are some aspects of this book I don’t like. But….maybe, just maybe, (and there is a huge volume of literature behind this) Jacoby has a valid point. After all, as a podiatric surgeon he deals mainly in various degrees of amputations caused by diabetes.
So I’ll take this book with a pinch of salt, but much less sugar then I would like to consume.
