Whew! The Curse Breakers is one busy read. It’s fast-paced with a lot of surprising twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. It picks up where the previous book left us hanging with Ellie reeling in shock and trying to deal with the fallout of Collin’s actions. She still needs help but no longer trusting Collin, she looks elsewhere to get answers. She keeps coming up with more questions and time is running out.
I’m not a big history reader, however, I did find all the Native American folklore interesting. And a distraction from the fact that Ellie and Collin were not to be a thing. Or are they? Maybe not. Ack! This is a hard one to decide if I like but, in the meantime, there is a new man in Ellie’s life. Dr. David Preston, a professor of Native American studies that Ellie seeks out to help her. I like David, I really did. He’s all in to help Ellie in any way he can. It’s just I liked Collin more, despite all his flaws and bad choices.
There are so many different stories going on in this book - Collin’s betrayal, the demons running amok and their threats, and Ellie’s desperate search for answers, the re-appearance of the lost village. Because Marino still trying to get his hands isn’t enough, now the police are needing answers as well. Let’s not forget…a love triangle. Not a huge fan of them although this one definitely up the stakes of the drama in Ellie’s life…because she just doesn’t have enough with all the spirits that keep popping up, the fact she is being hunted and time is running out. It’s a lot to take in. At times I feel overwhelmed with all the plot twists. One thing I can say for certain, this was not a dull book!
It’s been a while since I originally started this series. Not sure why I didn’t continue on…? Oh wait, there was a cliffhanger that irked me. Yes, now I remember. Did a quick skimming re-read and there was that annoying cliffy. Hope being left hanging is your thing because guess what, there’s another one. Sighs. All I can say is thank goodness I have the next in the series to read because I have soooo many questions left lingering and I don’t know if I could take sitting on pins and needles again.
Stars: 4
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
This is the second book in the Curse Keeper series. It is a continuation from the first book.
Ellie still has quite a bit of information to collect about what's happening around and to her. She definitely should have listened to the stories her dad passed along to her.
In addition she's battling her feelings for Colin and learning what type of evil he has surrounding him. Deciphering if he can really be trusted is a whole other matter.
All the clues Ellie is chasing leads her in circles - or so it seems - but it's all about to come to a head. Gosh, I can't wait to read how it all pans out in the third book. I like how the author has mixed history with present day along with the paranormal too. Makes for an interesting combination and a lesson included!
Not a fan of this book. Was hoping for a great young adult read. I was really diappointed. I didnt like any of the characters and it just wasnt developed enough for me.
After being tricked into opening the gates, Ellie is being stalked and tormented by the demons who have escaped and all the chaos that surrounds them. If that wasn't enough, a dangerous gang is stalking her to find out what she knows about something she has no clue of and a local cop is questioning her about all of the weird things going on around her. Dealing with her father's death and her struggles with Collin's betrayal, she seeks answers on how to get rid of the demons once and for all.
I feel like this book was way better than the first book. I didn't hate the first book, mind you. I just didn't really get too much enjoyment out of it. It wasn't a favorite by any means. This book was a very big improvement. There were some things I kind of smacked my head over, but not many. I feel like the author took more time on this book than she did the first. It makes me excited to read the third book.
The first book was basically filled with sex and foreshadowing. This book was filled with action and intrigue and suspense. There was still sex in it, of course, but I didn't feel It played as big of a role as it did in the first book. I really got absorbed into this book way more than I did the first book.
The characters were still a little cringy in this book, but the transformation in Ellie is very impressive. I also like that you get to see a bit more of the background characters in this book as well. I think I can even say that I've added a new book boyfriend to my list because of this book. I won't say who because I don't want to spoil things.
I couldn't give this book a full five-star mark, but I couldn't give it any less than four either. It was a really good book. I just hope that many readers can get through the first book to read this. They are really missing out on a lot if they don't. I'm glad I've chosen to continue on even though I didn't really care much about the first book.
