This was a fun and quick read. I enjoyed the romance, as well as the amateur detective plot. At times, it was hard to root for the FMC, but she grew on me. This was book was a little simplistic but also still interesting! Would recommend for some lighthearted fun

Ok so hear me out - this was kind of a knockoff of Only Murders in the Building, but in a way that you couldn’t really root for the FMC?

This was an easy, fluffy read that I was excited to pick up because rom-com x cozy mystery is my favorite genre! What i failed to recognize was how unlikable all of the main characters are - even outside the cozy mystery aspect! Overall, it was a good story but the character development (or lack thereof) left a lot to be desired.

This is the cozy/romcom you are looking for. The story is great with superb plotting and spot on character development. Read it now!

Great summer read! Easily enjoyable and I was hooked by the first few pages! Very interested in seeing what else the author writes!

I was drawn in my the forward where the author talks about Paris Hilton being and inspiration for Pom (the FMC) but I agree with another reviewer, she is more similar to an adult Eloise.

Pom must solve the murder of her grandmother, the paranoid matriarch of her family in order to combat a clause in the grandmothers will stating that all of her assets are to be frozen in the event of an untimely death. Well, wouldn’t you know it….gran dies. And it’s suspicious. So Pom must solve this mystery herself (suspend disbelief for a bit) but it wouldn’t be a murder mystery rom com if she didn’t have to also move in with the son of her old nanny (spoiler alert, he’s hot!).
I’m overall glad Pom gets her HEA and this was a good debut story by the author. I look forward to the next novel.

Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of this story to review!

Pomona is a rich socialite living in one of her families hotels, until the reading of her grandmother's will forces her to pack her bags and leave. Can she along with her new roommate figure out who murdered her grandmother and get her families trust reinstated?

I had a difficult time getting into this one, mainly because of how insipid the main character is, even if that was how you are meant to feel about her. I'm glad I stuck with it as she does redeem herself as the story continues.

Good for fans of Gossip Girl or Only Murders in the Building

Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder!

This was such a fun, cozy romcom! I’ll admit I did not like Pomona in the beginning but loved how she had changed by the end!

This was a great murder mystery with an awesome romance subplot to it. I love a good murder mystery romcom! I absolutely loved the mystery aspect of this story and I also loved seeing Pomona's character progress throughout the novel. She was kind of unlikable at first, but as she progressed through the novel, I really began to love her. She almost made me give up on her, but she redeemed herself as the book went on. This book is sort of like that one episode of Schitt's Creek where Alexis has to get her way out of the escape room and everyone doubts her because of her flighty, socialiate personality but she's actually smart and does really well. Pomona is pretty much Alexis Rose and I loved that! Gabe was just the cutest love interest and I loved what he added to the book. It's full of action, mystery, and a dash of love! A very enjoyable read.

I love a good romcom murder mystery. This was advertised as a great book for fans of Gossip Girl. I didn’t quite feel the same vibe as that but enjoyed it. It was predictable for a mystery but was a cute quick read.

I loved this book. I almost gave up just because of the way Pomona acted, but I figured, she has to get better, right? And she did. It was like watching Cher in clueless, and I loved the romance aspect of it. It wasn't too convoluted of a book, and someone was actually murdered, and that's all I can really ask from most murder mysteries these days. I think the plot twist was clever for its useage. The twist itself is one that's a little overdone sometimes, but I think it fit cleverly for the book. It seemed like there might be another book, and that Pomona and Gabe might have another murder to solve, and I'd definitely read that.

3.5 stars. This was an unserious story, which I appreciate. Pomona, a spoiled rich girl, gets cut off from her family fortune when her grandma dies and has to solve the murder to get her life back. I liked the concept a lot and thought this was a fun read, but some of the execution fell a little flat. I would’ve loved to see her and Gabe’s relationship develop a little more gradually and more meaningfully. While the plot is predictable, it’s fun and that’s what makes it enjoyable!

This was really cute! A socialite with no discernible life skills has to figure out how to get a job and live like a “normal person” while her grandmother’s murder is investigated. Pomona doesn’t really want to work another day (or minute) at a coffee shop so she decides to team up with her roommate to solve the murder as soon as possible.

Light, frothy, and fun (despite the central plot involving murder). I’m not sure I was rooting for Pomona, but it was nice to see her discover a passion for baking and form a friendship with Gabe. Read it if you’re in the mood for a mystery/rom-com.

Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a copy.

Nothing is more humbling than a fall from grace, especially for Pomona Afton. This spoiled socialite’s world gets turned upside when her grandmother is brutally murdered. In order to restate her fortune and status, Pomona must solve her grandmother’s murder.

This book was full of drama, twists, and a sprinkle of romance. I really enjoyed watching this character grow from a vapid party girl to a critical thinking crime solver. It amazed me how the author evolved this character throughout the book. The change from a total self centered brat to a critical thinking and caring individual was truly spectacular.

The reason for the somewhat low rating is because I guessed the murderer pretty early on. However, this could be because it was marketed for fans of Gossip Girl so I looked at it through a teen drama lens. Overall, it was a fun book and I really did enjoy it.

Rom-com meets murder mystery vibes is sooo the type of book I wanted for a fall read! I was instantly hooked with the trust fund inheritance plot line as well! Overall I really enjoyed this. I did guess the killer early on. But Gabe was the cutest love interest!! So sweet and supportive.

What a fun cozy murder mystery. This book was a first for me by this author and I do not think it will be the last. The story itself was engaging and exciting. The characters, although I could not relate to such overly rich people like Pom, were empathetic and real. The mystery itself drew you in, sending you in multiple directions. I enjoyed the arc of Pom's personal growth, and it reinforced how important good friendships are for people. The romance was a nice slow build, which worked perfectly for this book. I had so much fun reading this, I could not put it down. Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

I’d give this a 3.5⭐️

This is a fun, pretty light mystery. I will say I felt like I struggled a bit to stay interested with the first half of the book, but the second half made up for it! I can definitely say the reveal at the end surprised me. I wish we got a liiiiittle more romance between Pom & Gabe.

Overall, a great debut from the author!

This was such a cute quick read, it was a 3.5 read but I rounded up because I didn’t guess the killer. It was very easy to get into, and who doesn’t enjoy a murder mystery with some romance in the mix. Squeaky( meatball), the cutest cat ever, was obviously the best thing to happen, Pomona’s mother was diabolical for what she did. I honestly did not expect the murderer to be who it was. I'm not great with figuring out who did it, despite watching all of Criminal Minds, Bones. It gives such fall vibes, it was a cozy murder mystery. I loved Vienna and wished we got to see more of her. For a second there I thought Pom and Vienna had dated because of all the drama there, would have been nice to see. Also, I’m not trying to spoil it, but there is a special place for her mom because wow every time she opened her mouth I wanted to throw something at her. I’m glad Pom was able to find herself, and stand up for herself. Thank you NetGalley and Atria/ Emily Bestler Books for giving me the opportunity to read this for an honest review.

A rom com murder mystery? Sign me up! This book was great.

Pomona Afton's life is turned upside down after her grandmother is murdered and must move out of the Afton Hotel and start her life over until the killer is caught. So, she goes on the move to investigate, discovering secrets and betrayals along the way.

The love interest, Gabe, was so sweet and supportive and introduced Pomona to her love for baking.

I liked how well rounded the characters were, and how Pomona changed through the book. I wish the ending would have elaborated a little more on her friend, Opal.

(I guessed who the killer was early on from the hints)

This was a great, quick read!
