Let me start by saying that I sat down and read this book in 6 hours. I started and didn’t stop. I wasn’t sure what to expect but went in with high hopes! I was not disappointed. It was so nice to see old faces who are up to their old antics and new faces being brought in to bring it into the next generation.
The new generation came out swinging. They brought the heat, the fire and the passion that we love from MM! Finn and Scottie leading the way for all of the books to come in this series which I am very excited to read.
This story will bring out a lot of emotions but ultimately leave you feeling satisfied. I don’t want to give details about the book itself because there are so many things in there that are best left just to experience and feel for yourself.
I will say that Ace learns a hard lesson. You can never top the king of pranks! Long live King Thatch! Read and enjoy this book you all!
I've been reading Max Monroe books since 2019 when I fell in love with my favorite book boyfriend ever, Kline Brooks. I've eagerly awaited each new release because I love the over-the-top hilarious hijacks and swoony leading men. I can appreciate that authors want to grow and try new things, but this is the second book in a row that has been outside of their usual style and I just didn't like it. 600 pages is way too long, it could have easily been 200 pages shorter. I LOVED seeing all my OG characters again and the seeing the kids all grown up was so much fun. I just thought there were way too many plot lines. It was too much. Finn spent too much of the book being hot and cold. They declare they're in love with each other after knowing each other for just a few weeks. Both characters had family drama, though Scottie's was just plain icky. Scottie's plot line at the end just felt completely unnecessary. It was a lot. I haven't given up on this duo yet, I already know I'll be back to read Blake and Lexi's story. I just hope they go back to their roots soon.
Max Monroe books are typically an automatic read for me. I love their banter and laugh out loud kind of books. If you are looking for that, I would not read this book. This book is extremely heavy and angsty.
Simply put, this book was too long. There was so much fluff and so many side stories that just felt unnecessary. I will say, the first half of this book had me hooked and I could not put it down. Then around 55%/60% through the book, things just went downhill. There was too much happening. The only saving grace was getting to see the OG Max Monroe characters sprinkled throughout the book.
📖📖 Book Review 📖📖 Oh, to be young again…well I don’t really want to go back to that time so I will happily live vicariously through wonderful books like Learning Curve. Finn and Scottie are embarking on their freshman year of college, a time when relationships develop at lightning speed and the whole world is opening up in front of your eyes. Life has not been easy for these two and their vulnerability lends itself to a beautiful connection. Yet as with so many who grow up within dysfunctional families, breaking from the cycle is such a challenge and Finn and Scottie are no exception to this struggle. Learning Curve is an immersively rich roller coaster full of emotions that is beyond captivating. Max Monroe has done it again with an absolutely exquisitely written book that tugs at the heartstrings.
Review is on Goodreads and will be posted on instagram closer to publication date and on Amazon when published!
Max Monroe never fail to make you swoon, laugh and smile in every book.
Learning Curve was an absolute fun ride. Crazy, wild, emotional roller coaster but you'll have fun. Scottie is starting college and with a boyfriend back home and focused on keeping her up grades for her cheerleading scholarship. Finn is also starting college but dealing with a lot. Their relationship starts off on the wrong foot thinking he's not good enough for her but Scottie is inevitable and he cannot resist her. It's messy, complicated but with lots of love. It's love and complex and they go through a lot and have a lot of maturing and growth, individually and together but the story is heartbreaking & heartwarming and so addictive. A must read for those that love a good messy complicated but wonderfully romantic college romance!
Book review:
Learning Curve by Max Monroe was a good read that takes you on a journey of two seemingly opposite college students learning how to navigate multiple situations that change the trajectory of their lives and learn how to deal with them apart and together.
I enjoyed the unlikely friendships, watching them grow. During the difficult situations it was not just the main characters learning how to support one another but also friends and family supporting them and learning to accept the support. The writers did a great job talking about very heavy topics such as alcoholism, changing family dynamics, family secrets, changes in health. They did this in a way that added to the story and not overwhelming to the reader.
I did feel like this book was set up as most first books in a series and brought in a lot of characters and started their stories. At some points it was a little hard to keep track of all of them and not sure some of them were needed or added to the story. When I finished the book I did have two other story lines I wanted more from and was glad to read about the future books coming out.
I gave this book four stars and think it is a very enjoyable, bingeable read that a lot of people can relate to. Life rarely turns out how you planned it to and it’s going to throw you curveballs but those unexpected plans can sometimes bring some of the best people into your life even if you might not see it at the beginning.
Outstanding characters and a fun setting. I loved this one! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Monroe's introduction of the action between each character was fantastic. The story flowed well. I stayed up late to read this one.
Wow wow wow. I devoured this book in less than a day! When I read Max Monroe’s “Things I Should’ve Said” I thought that was as good as it gets. NOPE. I was worried how I’d connect to the college students as protagonists, but the depth of their personal stories was everything I wanted. The growth and heartbreak throughout the book was so genuine…. I don’t want to give anything away but I am SO excited to read Blake and Lexi’s story in February. Will Ace and Julia be next?!?! I can only hope!
Drama, angst, and spice. What's not to love?
I read this book in a day because I truly couldn't put it down. Scottie and Finn are both very likable characters. Yes, they acted dramatic and immature at times, but they're only 18. I appreciate that they both went through some personal growth during the story, rather than just starting off as flawless, perfect beings.
My only major criticism is that the last 1/5 of the book seemed unnecessary. The book could've ended before that point. Scottie and Finn were together again as a couple. They had both grown and matured. The primary dramas in both Scottie and Finn's lives reached satisfying conclusions. The last curveball seems to kinda have been thrown in just for the sake of it, and not because the book actually needed it. But putting aside how unnecessary it seemed to me, I'm glad that the authors didn't give the main characters the easy solution to the issue; they have to properly deal with the tough problem thrown at them.
Overall, an enjoyable read that I'd recommend to fans of college romance. I look forward to seeing Blake chase after his dream girl in the next book. 😉
