The Perfect Putt by Annah Conwell
Book 2 in the More Than A Game Series
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 Stars
This is a sports romance and workplace romance. Miles is a professional golf player and in desperate need of a good assistant. Ellie is trying to save to open her flower shop and has been working at a coffee shop trying to find a better job to help her save. When her friend sets her up with an interview to be Miles's assistant she is annoyed that it is for golf, the one sport she hates. She has a business degree and impresses Miles at the interview and he will give her the job on one condition, that she can't have any feelings for him. However, when she tells him how she hates golf, he makes it his mission to prove her wrong. This turns into a lot of extra time spent together just the two of them and some private golf lessons. Through spending all this time together they find they actually enjoy spending time together and have a lot in common. Miles starts to realize he wants to break his own rule and have feelings for her. This is a super sweet romance with some great banter between the two main characters! I enjoyed all the characters in this book and am so excited to see what Annah does next for the other characters in this series! I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a good closed-door golf romance.

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest full on romance reader - so why did I pick this one up? I'll just say it. It's the golf.
Yes, the secret is out. I enjoy golf (though, don't ask me to explain the terminologies within it because enjoying vs. understanding are two different things here, haha). We're swamped with football/hockey romances but golf? I knew I'd like to see how this went. I've also heard great things about Annahs books from trusted friends so I figured let's give it a go. After all, who doesn't want a book that makes them smile. It did not disappoint!
I am so glad to say that this had exactly what I look for, especially when it comes to romance, and that is depth. As a character driven reader I want my characters to have something bigger going on rather than just the feelings for each other. I want to know them as they fall for each other. Annah did a good job adding the depth I was seeking in BOTH of our main characters, Miles and Ellie, while still giving the lovey dovey moments their time (did I roll my eyes sometimes, yes. but that's a me thing- romance readers will probably love it lol).
The end was truly where it shone for me - I was rooting for Ellie when she had her moment to stick up for her and Miles (what a sceneeeee, I was here for it!). Ellie is a character that is full of sass which just added to it. The family dynamics- whew, they seemed realistic in this situation and I love how Annah approached it and how the characters grew. Also, if you love a big moment- there's a swoon worthy moment at the end of this story that just shows how great the male main character Miles is and how much he believes in Ellie while still letting her shine. It did thaw the heart out a little here because a supportive partner is a giant yes. They believed in and encouraged each other while still keeping it real and telling it how it is.
If you're looking for some depth, smiles, laughs, sass, and sports this is for you. Oh, and if you aren't a golf fan, this is not loaded with terms or overload on the sport so you can still pick this up- it just added to the joy for me. Definitely one that came for me at the right time!
This is a solid 3.5 star for me, which I consider to be a strong rating for a romance story but I think if you are a true rom=com gal this will be one that you will enjoy even more. Bonus points that it is a clean one! Additionally, if you are an audio listener, the audiobook was a great way to listen to this one since we do get both a male and female narrator which I think makes a romance story even better to listen to and brings it to life!
*Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced listening copy. All thoughts are honest & completely my own.

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

I adored this audio and this just made me wish there was more golf romance books. This was so cute and the perfect listen on the weekend. The narrators were smooth and enjoyable and helped the story flow well and the story had great rhythm and connection. Completely adorable characters and chemistry.

This was a cute little rom-com that was a nice quick easy read. The perfect book to read in a day or a weekend and leave you feeling good. The MMC was a little frustrating but in the end he comes to his senses. I loved the narrators and would really like to listen to more books narrated by them. They both had pleasant voices and told the story very well.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audio book

This book is a cute, lighthearted summer read, but it ultimately falls short of being memorable.
Ellie, the protagonist, is intended to be a sassy, independent woman, but she often comes across as rude and immature. Her inexplicable hatred for golf, largely based on her assumption that all players are "pretentious rich guys," feels forced and repetitive throughout the story. Unfortunately, her dismissive attitude towards Miles' success as a golfer further detracts from her likability.
Miles, on the other hand, is a fairly bland love interest. His backstory—a man disillusioned with love due to his parents' divorce—feels like a trope we've seen many times before. He doesn't bring much excitement to the narrative, and their dynamic as boss and assistant is marred by unprofessionalism from the start. Their "banter" often reads more like teenage bickering.
The chemistry between the two leads is lacking. Their conversations are dull, and Ellie’s overreactions—such as believing Miles is head over heels after a simple touch—make the romance feel forced. The insta-love between the characters feels rushed, with Ellie and Miles developing feelings for each other almost immediately after their first meeting. Fans of slow-burn romance may find this aspect disappointing, as the relationship lacks the gradual build-up that typically creates emotional depth.
While some parts, like the beach setting, provide fun, summery vibes, the characters' immaturity, especially in scenes dealing with family issues, hampers the overall experience. Additionally, the overused "red" nickname for Ellie’s red hair feels lazy and unoriginal.
Overall, this book is an easy, breezy read with some enjoyable moments, but it doesn’t offer much in terms of depth or emotional engagement. If you're looking for a quick, feel-good romance, it might be worth picking up, but don't expect anything groundbreaking.

Ellie needs a job, Miles needs an assistant. It was a cute very quick listen.
Thanks for the ALC, NetGalley!

I loved this book so much — it was so sweet and endearing and the setting is absolutely perfect!
I loved the characters and the dynamic between them and also the relationship between the fmc and her sister and her nephew 🥹 it was just so cozy and cute!! I also loved the narrators and how they brought the story to life!
I love Annah’s books so much and I’m so excited she’s doing sports romances! I can’t wait for the rest of the series to come out!!

So… golf may not be that boring? Who knew! This book had some of my favorite book moments maybe ever. I’m also a sucker for when a man gives his girlie his sweatshirt. The very first thing I did in our relationship was confiscate a cozy sweatshirt. He’s never asked for it back and that was 15 years ago almost.
Okay I listened to this audiobook and the voices 100% fit the characters. They weren’t distracting, but they were the characters. It just suited.
When Ellie takes him to the beach to just make him rest and chill a little. I loved that. So many swoony moments.
FOTMS: 🫑

Miles and Annie had the best banter. From the moment they met it didn’t stop. I love that!! They complimented each other perfectly. Annie becomes Miles’ assistant and their relationship grows from there. Even though they both don’t want to admit they like each other. It was great to have Sutton and Shaw back and even better when they pushed Miles to give into his feelings for Annie. This is such a great series from Annah and I can’t wait to see whose story comes up next.
I listened to the audiobook version and the narrators did a great job bringing the characters and the story to life.
Thank you to Annah for my review copy. These words are my own.

The Perfect Putt is the second book in the More Than a Game series that can be read as standalones. I really loved the first book in this series, The Golden Goal. So I couldn't wait to read this one.
The Perfect Putt is a:
Closed Door
Boss/Assistant
Sports Romance
Workplace Romance
Dual POV
He's a famous pro golfer who swore off love and marriage. She's a feisty redhead who hates golf. I loved the banter, chemistry and story around Miles and Ellie. However, I did feel like they went from boss/assistant, to trying to be friends, to being in love rather quickly with not a whole lot of relationship build up. I wish there was a little bit more development on how they got to those points.
This was a really sweet and fun romcom. While it was a closed door romance, there were some steamy (non explicit) makeout scenes. The Golden Goal is still my favorite of this series, but I can't wait to read the others when they come out.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for this audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

The chemistry between these two was instant and I really enjoyed their back and forth! I loved the premise that she was his assistant who hated golf, and he was adamant to show her how great it is. They were fiercely protective of each other which I really enjoy in a romance. That said, I did have difficulty with the FMC, and struggled to enjoy her most of the time. It’s not my favourite Annah Conwell book, but it was a quick audiobook and it could just be me with the FMC.
3.5 stars

I didn't love this one AS much as the Golden Goal but it was still pretty enjoyable and I look forward to listening to the other friends in the series. I just don't really care for golf and the personality of the mmc was just kind of meh to me.

More Than a Game series, book 2
I read this one before I knew it was book two in a series, but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything. I could tell I probably was supposed to recognize some characters, but it didn’t impact my read!
This was a sweet rom-com with a boss/assistant trope where the MMC is a professional golfer. Overall, I enjoyed this one! There was nothing that stood out to me that I didn’t like.
I listened to this on audio and enjoyed the performance! I preferred the FMC narrator over the MMC but they were both good. Thank you @dreamscape_media for the review copy.
Perfect for you if you like:
Boss/assistant trope
Dual pov
MMC famous golfer
FMC grumpy/fiery
Workplace romance
“Good girl”

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was another fun flirty romantic comedy. I loved the characters and their banter. The dialogue had me giggling. This series is shaping up to be a really fun one.

Once again the author has written a book i found myself staying up too late to read, carrying with me to read on every possible spare minute and in general devouring! I had no idea I would love a golf romance so very much!
Lovable characters, some excellent sparring of words, people dealing with very real family hurt... It all came together in this beautifully fun stand alone dual point of view book. (While you don't need the previous book to enjoy this one, you should do yourself a favor and read it as well)
Much appreciated the early read and listen before release of this one! So much fun!

I’m not sure if it was the audio version or the story itself, but I was just not into this. The FMC’s hatred for golf seemed so intense it was hard to believe. And the MMC was just… there? I don’t know, he didn’t really do anything for me. Didn’t love him, didn’t hate him.
The storyline was cute and it’s a closed-door romance, for those who don’t like/ don’t want to read spice! But it just didn’t do a whole lot for me.
Thanks, NetGalley for letting me read and review this book!

This was such a sweet romance book! I loved how well you could see the character's arcs growing and changing through the narrative as they adapted to their surroundings. I am a sucker for forbidden romance too, so I was hooked from the start.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This was an enjoyable read from start to finish, with characters that I liked and routed for.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/680Annah Conwell’s "The Perfect Putt" is a delightful romance that perfectly blends humor, charm, and the slow-burning tension of an irresistible connection. The story follows the journey of the protagonist, who starts with a cynical view of the world of golf but finds herself irresistibly drawn into it, thanks to the charismatic and enigmatic Miles Day. Conwell's writing shines with witty dialogue, vivid descriptions, and characters that feel real and relatable. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, yet Conwell skillfully keeps the romance sweet and tension-filled without explicit scenes, making it a perfect read for those who enjoy a good clean romance.
What makes "The Perfect Putt" stand out is the depth of character development. The protagonist’s struggle to maintain her professional boundaries while grappling with her growing feelings for Miles is portrayed with nuance and authenticity. Miles, on the other hand, is more than just a handsome athlete; he’s layered, with a backstory that adds emotional depth to the narrative. Their interactions are full of playful banter, but also moments of vulnerability that make their relationship journey compelling and satisfying.
As part of the "More Than a Game" series, this book also hints at the stories of the other men in the series, creating anticipation for readers to dive into those as well. Whether you're a fan of sports romance or just looking for a well-crafted love story, "The Perfect Putt" will not disappoint. It’s a hole-in-one for anyone who enjoys a good romantic comedy with heart.
