The first chapter was the best one in this book. Percy and the dog were the best characters. I couldn’t seem to like Alexander or Georgina. They weren’t the worst characters, but I didn’t warm to them. Some parts were full of action and other parts were too slow. I felt like this was trying to be quirky but serious at the same time and it didn’t work. I’m not sure this author is right for me in this genre.

I so enjoyed this slow-burn romance with a side of mystery adventure. Proudly independent spinster, academic, and archeologist, Miss Georgina Harrington, and Alexander Lovett, Marquess of Heathford, find themselves unlikely and reluctant partners when they learn that their families have schemed behind their backs to arrange their marriage, and Georgina's cousin and Alexander's best friend, Percy, has disappeared without a trace and in possession of Georgina's greatest archeological find. Are the two events somehow related?

The forced proximity trope works wonderfully here as they find themselves falling for each other in spite of their preconceptions about what love is, and what they believe they want in a romantic relationship. Their romance is absolutely endearing, heartfelt, and honest. I was rooting for them both from the very beginning. You know that their devotion and passion for each other is going to be pure and unfettered until the end of their days.

I really enjoyed the author's previous novel, Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, and this one takes place in the same London universe, which centers around the Black Sheep coffeehouse and its regular customers. Lady Charlotte Talbot is, in fact, Alexander's twin sister. I loved spending time with Charlotte and Matthew, rebellious Lady Calliope, stage actor and playwright, Mr. Powys, the pirate's daughters who own the Black Sheep, and their animal companions, Pan the profane parrot, and Banshee, the capuchin monkey.

This novel employs another hilarious avian through-line, which begins when Alexander and Georgina utilize a rooster they rescued from a cock fight to distract from their clandestine investigative efforts to locate Percy. Together, they convince the ton that carrying fowls around as companions is the latest stare of fashion. I laughed out loud every time a new chicken or rooster appeared on the page.

The book was paced and plotted well, and the characterizations were wonderful. I loved how earnest and gentle Alexander is with Georgina, and how much he truly admires her accomplishments. He is not threatened by her intelligence whatsoever, and goes out of his way to give her every opportunity to shine and to claim the credit she often denies herself. Alexander is the definition of a green flag man and partner. Georgina is one lucky lady!

The found family dynamic continues in this book and helps to build the sense of warmth and joy that the Black Sheep fosters. I am excited to read the next book! Will it be Lady Calliope and Mr. Powys?

Thank you NetGalley and Forever for the opportunity read and review this novel prior to publication. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated in any way for this review.

This book was sweet. Some scenes were a bit sill and there wasn't enough of a romance plot/spice for me. The slow burn didn't work for me. This is a cute story for people who want a mystery and a bit of romance.
Thank yo to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fun historical romance that was full of interesting characters. I love the premise and I would say it pushed this book a bit more towards cozy mystery than the typical historical romance. I appreciated the commentary on gender roles, society expectations, and disability which added even more to a generally entertaining book. While definitely over-the-top, that was half the fun and the found family is full of ridiculous (in the best way) characters that added hilarity and another layer of cozy to the story.

What a fun and fast paced historical romance for our dear Miss H!

Georgina and Alexander are both outcasts in their respective families but driven in their passions for life. Georgina was relegated to living with her cold step brother and sister in law while pursuing a secret career of archeological discovery. Alexander was born noble but with a deformity refused to accept he cannot be successful in "sport".

When Georgina's cousin who is Alexander's friend goes missing we get our cast of characters on the case. This was so fun to read that I devoured it while laughing and falling in love with most of the cast.....Alexander's parents are terrible 😒

If you enjoy books with animals in them pick this up, they are a cast in itself. All I can say is "Making Chickens a fashionable pet" 🤣🤣

I'm looking forward to continuing this fun series...can't wait to see what comes next ❤️

I loved so much about this story- the characters, the title, the cover, and especially the trendy chickens! It's a wild ride through Georgian England, and author Violet Marsh doesn't shy away from addressing the harsh realities of life in this era. It's definitely the first romance book I've read that references the Jacobite Rebellion more than once! Georgina (Miss H.) is bright and logical, and the story is just as much about her and Alexander's growth as it is the romance. Read this book if you like found families, animal sidekicks with grand Roman names, and enjoy suspense and intrigue in your romance books. I'll be on the lookout for the third installment in this series!

Thank you netgalley for the eARC of this fun cozy mystery. I didn't read the first book in the series before I read this, and it was fine. I might go read it now since it sounds fun from the hints to it in this one. This was an easy to read, cozy mystery set in 1750s England, featuring a quirky amateur archeologist and a group of wild socialites and rebels. It reminded me a little of the Veronica Speedwell books with the forthright female lead, though this is more cozy and lighthearted than those. The romance was sweet and felt real. The two main characters tugged at my heartstrings as they found each other and supported each other through having pretty terrible relatives.

I love historical romance, but throw in a bit of mystery and it makes it even better. Having adored book one I was very excited to read this one, especially with the archaeology aspect. Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist, but considering the times she can’t discover anything under her own name. When she makes a discovery under her male cousins name and he runs off with it - she needs help to track it down. Here’s where Alexander a future Duke comes in to play - problem is his horrible parents want him to marry her. But of course, the quest brings them together and they discover each other. A fun romantic historical comedy. I ate this one up

Georgina Harrington has been a female archeologist with her male cousin Percy posing as her male persona. When Percy goes missing after Georgina discovers a priceless helmet Georgina vows to get to the bottom of his whereabouts. With the help of Alexander Lovett Georgina discovers the lengths those in the aristocracy will go to maintain their titles and positions of power.

This was another enjoyable historical mystery/romance by Violet Marsh! Never a dull moment with lots of entertaining twists and turns.

In Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case by Violet Marsh, we follow Georgina Harrington, an intelligent and determined archaeologist who struggles to gain recognition in a male-dominated field during this historical time period. Forced to present her findings under her cousin Percy's name, Georgina is thrust into turmoil when Percy mysteriously disappears with her latest discovery. Concerned for his safety, she enlists the help of Alexander Lovett, Percy's charming yet infuriating best friend. As they embark on a quest to find Percy, they navigate societal pressures, battle personal demons, and confront the expectations placed upon them by their families. Set against the backdrop of the 1750s, the story blends romance, humor, and intrigue, as Georgina and Alexander discover their undeniable chemistry while dealing with the complexities of their lives and the threat looming over the monarchy.

I loved the funny parts of this book! The roster/chicken fad of the ton is hilarious. Georgina and Alexander's chemistry is palpable as they navigate their own insecurities and family pressures, making their relationship feel genuine and relatable. The witty banter and engaging dialogue add depth to their interactions, inviting readers to root for their romance. Furthermore, the historical setting offers a fresh perspective on gender roles and societal expectations, making it not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. With a mix of endearing characters, unexpected twists, and a charming subplot involving a supportive found family, this book promises to satisfy any reader's craving for a captivating romantic adventure. I really enjoyed the tight knit group of supportive friends. I think the author portrayed how a disability might have been perceived at the time (interesting to think about). The cover was a good reflection of parts of the story. This book is the second book in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. It's got some spicy scenes, but I think the mystery is the major point. There is some violence and fighting that will get your adrenaline pumping. I really liked it and it's a perfect weekend read when you are in the mood for a good historical romance.

More historical romance! The genre is most certainly not dead! But OUR DEAR MISS H. IS ON THE CASE by Violet Marsh just came out and does have an element of mystery if that’s your jam! The main character is the brains and true author behind scientific and archaeological writings in her cousin Percy’s name, because a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do in a man’s world. When Percy and her most recent artifact find go missing, she enlists an unlikely ally (enemies to lovers!!!) to help her find him. Highly recommend and it was a great time on audio!

Cute easy read. However, the romance and mystery are both mediocre and make the book just okay. I needed more focus on one or the other.

Are you in the mood for an historical romance that features two endlessly endearing characters who go on a road trip to solve a mystery? Then this novel is for you! 💚🩷💛

Georgina Harrington is an easy heroine to love. She's intelligent, curious, with a kind heart and a thirst for knowledge. Her favorite past time is unearthing artifacts and passing the credit along to her cousin Percy. (Georgina isn't allowed to present her findings because she's a woman.) One day, however, Percy disappears with one of her findings, and it's up to Georgina to find him. Thank goodness for Alexander, a sweet man with a backstory that will most certainly complicate things. Can Georgina find her cousin, her relic, and a love to last a lifetime? We'll have to read and see!

I loved the themes of unconditional love, empathy, and courage that are woven through these pages. The bits of history we learn are fun too! I was so impressed with our hero, who has learned to thrive with a disability. He also truly admires the strength in women, which was so refreshing, especially in an historical romance! I was so pleased to find out through my interview with Violet Marsh that one of the characters in this story will wind up having their own book in the future! Can't wait!

Trigger warnings: emotionally/physically abusive family members, being shot at, peril, abduction

I'd like to thank Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC/ARC of this book! All opinions expressed are my own.

I had a blast reading this I thought it was funny but not corny cozy mysteries aren’t something I gravitate to but I think after reading this I might just do that

Thank you NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review

The book itself was interesting, but there wasn't enough romance for me to consider it a pure romance book. I loved how the FMC was so independent that she had to realize that she could love the MMC while still being herself. I also appreciated that the MMC didn't wallow in his struggles with his club foot and family.

He's pretty, she's plucky...

Georgina is an archeologist, following in her father's footsteps and succeeding in her find digging in the mud. Her cousin Percy knows her secret, as does his pretty best friend, Alexander. When the foppish Percy goes missing, Its Georgina, to the rescue. She is smart, tenacious, but unfortunately needs Alexander, but does she really? It often felt like Alexander was just along for the ride. The story is at its best when its the witty dialog between Georgina and Alexander.. It looses a bit of steam when it incorporates a larger mystery. I liked Miss H. so much.
Recommend.

Fast paced and fun rom com

This is a fast-paced and fun book, almost a parody of itself. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the animals, the antics, the antiques, the archeology. As described, it is a rom com and opposites attract romance with lots of high jinx and a interesting mystery. Highly recommended!

Thank you to the publisher who lent me a time-constrained e-arc via Netgalley with no obligation. This review is optional and my own opinion.

Georgina is an archeologist following in her father’s footsteps. Unfortunately, because she’s a woman, no one will take her seriously and she’s forced to hide her finds and scholarly articles behind her cousin, Percy. When she finds something amazing and suddenly Percy goes missing and she fears he is in danger, she has to team up with Alexander Lovett to put the pieces together to figure out where he is and protect her once in a lifetime find.

This is the 2nd book in Violet’s series and oh my GOODNESS, what fun! You could totally read it as a stand alone but there are LOTS of references and character cameos from book 1. A solid mystery mixed with pure shenanigans all the way through and I found myself laughing, my heart racing and myself rooting hard for the romance between Alexander and Georgina. A chicken is a large secondary character in this book and it’s so CUTE. I had so much fun with this one and Violet set us up perfectly for book 3 which I absolutely cannot wait for!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Forever publishing and Violet Marsh for the ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions in my review are honest, voluntary and my own.

Thank you to Forever for the complimentary ARC.

This is a closed door historical romance with a mystery, and if you love "Ravished" by Amanda Quick it may just be the book for you. We have an archeologist heroine, a disabled and scarred hero, an amazing scientific find, villainous family members, and smugglers. (See the Ravished parallels are strong!)

While the book has many comedic moments, both characters have experienced poignant rejection in their lives and when they find acceptance in each other it is truly touching.

On the mystery side, the plot meanders into bonkers territory for a rather wild and fun ending. If you're looking for a romantic adventure set in the mid-1700s this is a delightful romp!

Thank you to Forever for the advance reader copy and to Hachette Audio for the advance listener copy. These opinions are my own.

Georgina does amazing scholarly research on her archaeological finds. And she lets her cousin Percy take the credit, so she can publish about them. It all works okay until he talks when he shouldn't. And suddenly there are a lot of incorrect rumors about her latest dsicovery, and Percy has gone missing.

This was completely over-the-top, but in a really fun way. I had to suspend disbelief throughout the entire plot. There were coincidences and scenarios that just would never have happened. But take those and add in ridiculous animals, and the whole things was such a deilghtful romp.

This book puts the comedy way before the historical romance. But it was sweet and featured fun characters, great queer rep, and a wonderful found family that grows with each book in the series. And through it all, it delivers a fairly biting and definitely currently relevant social commentary.
