This book was an absolute delight.

Georgina is an archaeologist. Since women in the Georgian era aren't accepted in the archaeological community, she has an arrangement with her feckless cousin Percy to present her work. When he goes missing with her latest find, she has to team up with his good friend Alexander to find Percy. The problem is his awful father and her awful brother want the pair to wed. Georgina has no interest in marriage, and Alexander has no interest in marrying anyone his father chose. But when they're forced together in their search for Percy, they form a bond,

I really loved this book. The hero and heroine both have terrible families. Alexander's father is ashamed of him because he (Alexander) has a club foot. His parents are cruel and distant, but Alexander is part of a found family group of friends who hang out at a London coffeehouse (this book is set in the 1750s, the height of coffeehouses) and support each other unconditionally. Georgina's brother and sister-in-law are terrible social climbing snobs (they reminded me of John and Fanny Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility), and she's basically on her own except for her missing cousin Percy. Alexander's friend group immediately adopts her and she's happy to be part of something bigger for once.

Alexander and Georgina are both great characters, and I really enjoyed their journey to romance. They're two people who aren't sure there's anyone out there for them, and it takes them a while to figure things out, but they're really great together.

Violet Marsh's "Our Dear Miss H is on the Case" is a delightful historical romance that builds upon its predecessor, integrating familiar characters to create a sense of continuity. The mystery-driven plot is fast-paced and engaging, with Georgina Harrington's unconventional scholarly pursuits providing a compelling hook.

Alexander Lovett, the Marquess of Heathford, is a highlight, as his character is explored beyond his relationship with his twin. The book also features laugh-out-loud moments, particularly involving rescued roosters, which humorously critique societal norms.

The romance between Georgina and Alexander is tender and well-developed, showcasing Marsh's skill in crafting heartfelt moments. The narration is excellent, with distinct accents adding authenticity to the characters.

Overall, this book is a charming blend of mystery, humor, and romance, leaving listeners eager for the next installment. It's a must-listen for fans of historical romances with adventure and humor. I can't wait for the next one!

In the late 1750s Georgina must use her male cousin Percy to be the face of her antiquities business and scholarly pursuits. When he disappears with her newly discovered ancient helmet, she is the only one concerned for his safety. She persuades his best friend Alexander to join her in the search for Percy. With Georgina dressed as a man they proceed on a road trip to save her cousin. There are some lighthearted elements involving a rooster, chickens, a monkey, a parrot, and a turnip loving dog. This is book 2 of the series and we get to revisit some characters from book 1 although I think you can read this as a standalone. The blurb says it's a swoony romance with smoldering attraction. I think this overstates the steam level of a kiss on the cheek! It dragged for me in parts but I'm still interested in the next mystery mentioned at the end.

👆🏾POV: 3rd person

Genre: Historical, Rom-Com, Mystery

Tropes: arranged marriage, excavation, pet friendly, sleuths, family drama

⚠️TW: kidnapping, imprisonment, H has disability, misogyny

🗣️Narrator: Marisa Calin voices all the characters with standouts from Georgina, Alexander, and Percy. The reading style brought the text to life, and the author and narrator worked together perfectly. The pacing and flow allowed me to get lost in the story. The narrator paused and announced new chapters and there was a table of contents which helped me follow along.

Summary: When Georgina, her cousin Percy, and his friend Alexander go on an expedition, they find a golden helmet Percy believes is King Arthur's. He shows it around and soon disappears. Georgina and Alexandra work together searching for him while fighting an arranged marriage from their family.

👩🏾 Heroine: Georgina Harrington-25, an archaeologist who uses her cousin's name (Percy) for her antiquity appraisal business in exchange for a small percentage of her commissions.

👨🏾 Hero: Alexander Lovett-Marquess of Heathford, Percy's BFF

🎭 Side Characters:
*Percy Pendergrast-Georgina's cousin
*Algernon-Earl of Craie, Georgina's half-brother, and her guardian + his wife Anne
*Charlotte- Alexander's twin sister + her husband Dr. Matthew Talbot (main couple from LCAGHM)
* Lady Calliope-half-sister to Duke of Blackglen. She takes Georgina into her home and away from her cruel brother
* Lord Henry Talbot-brother to Viscount Hawley- a murderous highway man. He bullies Alexander about his limp
*Pets: Georgian's dog- Ruffian Caesar, Alexander's bird- Fluffus Legatus

🤔 My Thoughts: I loved the heroine who lived for adventure and discovery. She was smart and resourceful, much cleverer than Alexander. Charlotte and Calliope jumped in and helped Georgina giving her some freedom. The scenes with the animals were hilarious, especially when Alexandra meets with his parents Lady and Lord Falcondale.

I didn't particularly care all that much for the first book in this companion series, but I am really glad I decided to give the author another chance! I ended up enjoying this one a lot more! We follow Georgina, who is a scholar of archaeology that finds an ancient helmet on her land that she plans to have her cousin Percy give a talk about as she is unable to as a woman in this time, and Alexander, Percy's friend, as they are on the hunt to find Percy when he and the helmet go missing. The plot was intriguing, and I felt like the humorous elements worked a lot better for me in this one. Were they ridiculous (like pretending chickens and roosters are all the rage as lap animals)? Yes. But at least we had limited interactions with my most hated characters, the parrot and monkey. The romance itself was good. I liked the way they interacted with each other and cared about each other. It was nice to have a disabled hero; Alexander has a club foot that has been medically made worse trying to 'fix' it. I appreciated that he knew and shared his limits. Georgiana goes through a good amount of growth as well throughout. The plot had its moments of ridiculousness, but it mostly stayed in the realm where I don't mind. Overall, I think this is a fun kind of set up with a more humorous bent on the historical romance genre.
3.5 Stars!

I’ve been on a historical romance kick lately but this one just didn’t make me love it, I liked it, the suspense plot line with archeology was so fun, especially as it was the main reason Percy went missing and Alexander and Georgina ended up traipsing around trying to find and save Percy! I also liked the arranged marriage plot line which caused some friction and tension between our two main characters instead of them just being friendly from the get go. However, as much as this book was cute, it felt more like a mystery suspense book rather than a romance and as a result, this specific book couldn’t hold my attention as well as I’d have liked.

Absurd and witty Regency romp!

What a perfect pair Georgina Harrington and Alexander Lovett are. Although they don’t know it of course
They first meet when Georgie’s cousin Percy, Lord Pendergrast brings Alexander to her pit site. An avid antiquarian / archaeologist, Georgina has a dig at a mound on a strip of land in Essex she’d inherited from her father, himself a famed antiquarian. Think cliffs and smugglers. Georgina has found a gold helmet. Percy pretends to have found her artefacts and presents them to the Antiquarians of England Society.
Unfortunately that’s the last Georgina sees of Percy before she’s bundled off to London by her wicked step brother in a plot to marry her off to someone.
In London Georgina looks everywhere for Percy but no-one’s seen him. She’s worried and turns to Alexander for help. That’s when Georgina discovers her people! Her group! They’re wonderful, quirky and supportive.
There’s plots within plots, both hilarious and dangerous. Never more so than for Alexander who’s sworn he’ll never marry, but has started to have feelings for Georgina. He’s actually the Marquess of Heathford, heir to a dukedom. Little do they both know that Georgina is the woman his father and Georgina’s brother are angling for him to wed. Oops!
Some surprising twists before the whole is revealed makes this a humorous and delightful read! I especially loved the way they influence Society into believing roosters are a fashion statement!

I loved reading Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man.
So of course I was excited to see a new novel Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh which is a captivating historical rom-com with secrets, romance and a great little mystery.
This book hook and ropes you in so quickly. I love this cast of characters. They were fun, engaging and very interesting.
I really, really loved Marsh’s writing style. I found it such a joy to fall into. I loved her bright characters, her dialogue and her humor so much!
Such a charming little story.

Georgiana and Alexander make an adorable and perfect couple. I love how they just understand each other perfectly and if they don't there is great communication that helps them return to their normal. Opposites attract except are they actually opposites? Being together definitely brings out the best in the other and also a side that they might has not known about before joining forces. The mystery and intrigue is the perfect amount that I kept me hooked and interested without being so overly complicated that I was beyond confused and couldn't enjoy the book. I loved the ending and how the whole thing was resolved, I definitely didn't see that coming and I love when a book can surprise me. Also, who doesn't love a small joke that becomes a running plot point through out, on a totally unrelated note, anyone have a chicken I can adopt?

Georgina is a female archeologist in a man’s world. In order to do the work she loves, her cousin Percy acts as the face of her discoveries and research. All is going well until Percy goes missing and her controlling half-brother informs her that she must marry.

Born with a club foot, Alexander has long been the disappointment of his parents’ dreams. Insisting he produce a suitable heir, they commit him to marry to a woman of impeccable lineage.

Both Georgina and Alexander were raised by cold, manipulative family, which ultimately shapes both into one who never wishes to marry. She doesn’t want to be controlled by a man, and he doesn’t want to give his father the satisfaction of marrying someone of his selection. Despite this, the pair find a friendship and common ground as they search for the missing Percy and investigate the secret plot involving his father and her half-brother. Both are intelligent, curious individuals, although sometimes they both seem a bit naive, especially Georgina.

Let me clear: their families are AWFUL. So I love that Georgina is able to form a friendship with the ladies of the Black Sheep coffee house and find an escape from her brother’s home. I love the freedom she experiences as she and Alexander search for Percy. The pair are perfectly suited and seeing them form a bond is touching. However, it’s frustrating when both end up hurt because the other says they don’t want to marry someone like them. If only they could be honest about their feelings. They do eventually get there.

The mysterious plot involving Percy’s disappearance is a good vehicle for the pair to fall in love; however it ends up being a tad ridiculous. Yet it is a fun adventure.

In the end, I enjoyed connecting with the Black Sheep friends and look forward to their next adventure.

This is a cute historical romance about a female archaeologist who has to use her male cousin to get published. When he goes missing along with her most recent and very noteworthy find, she teams up with his best friend to search for him.

The title is a little misleading. Georgina is never once referred to as Miss H nor is she an amateur sleuth. The modern day attitudes of most of the women in the story detract from the time period setting, and there is no real urgency to find the missing man. But the characters are engaging, the chemistry between the leads is tangible, and the mystery is complex and interesting.

While there is no mention of it, this is a sequel to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man. I have not read it, and while this can be read as a standalone as I did, there are numerous references to the prior story that are not explained in detail. And while this story is complete on its own, the ending leads to a future addition to the series.

Overall I liked the book.

Not family friendly due to profanity, innuendo, and some very heavy petting scenes.

This is a stand alone novel that can either be a sequel (not listed that way), or takes place in the same world as Lady Charlotte Always Get Her Man (March 2024). In this novel Charlotte’s twin brother Alex Lovett is the MMC. Alex has endured a lot in his life. He was born with a club foot which shamed his father, a Duke. His father wants him married off to someone of noble breeding. Georgina Harrington is a determined archeologist. She uses her cousin Percy as her cover allowing him to claim authorship of her papers and discoveries. But when he takes off with her latest find of a golden helmet she is hot on his trail. She finds his friend group that includes Alex. Percy also has arranged a marriage between Georgina to Alex, with the Duke. The last thing Alex wants is to marry someone of his father’s choosing but he wants to help Georgina find Percy. And along the way attraction sparks.

It is hard to imagine this all takes place in 1750 as Georgina, Charlotte and others are much more modern. If you don’t care much about the historical rules and enjoy modern heroines this is fun. There is a bit of silliness and humor. I actually enjoyed it more than the previous book as I knew better what to expect from the author. It was interesting and not surprising to learn not much could be done for a club foot in the time period. I did like the resolution in the storyline as it is fitting for both of the MCs. (3.5 Stars)

This book is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone.

The side characters and sense of place makes this mystery with a little romance come alive.

The two main characters support each other and bring a nice amount of spice along with the class expectations of the time period.

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh
Second book in the series, after Lady Charlotte Gets Her Man. Historical mystery and romantic comedy. Diversity in physical form. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist. As a woman, she’s forced to use her cousin’s name for her antiquity appraisal business. When he disappears with a valuable discovery, she turns to a friend of his, Alexander Lovett, to help find her cousin.
The future Duke of Falcondale doesn’t want to spend time with Georgina. His manipulative and cruel parents have chosen her as a potential future bride. For most arguments, he would just grin like a fool and move on. But the lovely Georgina needs his help. Together they go on an adventure to find her cousin and the missing artifact. The investigation goes deeper than either of them imagined.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and an audiobook for this story. The narration is performed by Marisa Calin in a delightfully soft British accent. Her performance brings a lightness of adventure to the reading which made the romance and comedy come alive.
I slowed my playback just a bit to 1.5 to accommodate the accent until I was used to it.

I appreciated the less than perfect Alexander for his uniqueness and acceptance of science to explain his birth defect. I felt bad for everything that his father put him through (off page, in the past) to try to fix it, and admired his ability to live life to the fullest as best he could.
As usual, also upset by the lack of power or legal options for women. Sigh. Can’t change the past.

Loved the rooster craze! Hilarious.

I was gifted a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Hachette Audio.

I was part way through listening to Our Dear Miss H when I realized that the parrot and monkey were familiar and realized I’d met them in a previous book. A previous book I didn’t love.

But I like to give authors a second chance so I continued. And I’m glad I did. Our Dear Miss H is still pretty ridiculous, full of irreverent humor and unbelievable occurrences. But when you have an adorable rooster named Fluffus Legatus, you can’t help but be charmed.

The romance between Georgina and Alexander is sweet and adorable, and it was clear how smitten they both were. Overall, this was a fun and light historical filled with action, humor, and just enough romance to tie it all together.

This book gets high praise simply because I didn’t guess who the villain was! Usually I can spot it a mile away.

On top of that. Georgina is brilliant and brave and all the things we should all want to be. And Alexander. I recently heard a MMC be described as a secret sad boy and Alexander is such a secret sad boy. I loved seeing Georgina realize there was so much hidden behind his big smiles and extroverted nature. I also just really liked them together.

If you want just a hint of Indiana jones in your British histrom, this is the book for you

This book just didn’t work for me. I like the characters, but there’s no sense of cause-and-effect in the plot. Every time the scene changes, it’s like reading a different book. DNF.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

Lady Georgina is an antiquarian. Het cousin takes credit for her work, since that's the only way she can get recognition. When her cousin goes missing, Georgina bands together with his fried Alexander. The romance between Georgina and Alexander is well done and believeable. Alexander has a club foot and at one point Georgina massages his foot and scarred leg. It's a very sweet romance.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Violet Marsh for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case coming out March 25, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really love Victorian romance novels. I’m not sure if this was supposed to be more mystery or romance. I think there were a couple plots going on. There were a couple things that felt a little forced. The parents just seemed to be there to tell their kids to get married or else. I’m all for strong, independent heroines. However, there’s a fine line between that and “not like other girls”. It didn’t feel like there were even other girls in the story. It felt a little too instalove at times as well. But overall, I enjoyed the story. I would check out other books by this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Victorian stories!

This was a fun feminist, historical romance that has a Duke and a woman antiquities lover pairing up to track down a missing person and some stolen artefacts while falling in love along the way. There was swoony moments, lots of action and some great spice too. I especially liked that the Duke had a disabled leg and used a cane. Great on audio and perfect for fans of books like Earl's trip by Jenny Holiday or authors like Evie Dunmore and Elizabeth Everett. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
