Overall this story was a 3.5 rating for me. Nissi and Kannon definitely had a ton of chemistry together and that was apparent the first time that they met. She was stranded on an elevator at her work and he was the sexy fire fighter to save her. Social media posts helped them cross paths again to find one another and from then on the back and forth began. I normally don’t mind the back and forth too much but it seemed excessive in this book so we didn’t get to see the characters together as much as I would have liked. I did enjoy the family dynamics in this book especially Nissis’ sisters so I wouldn’t mind checking out more from this author. This book was super cute and trendy with certain aspects of the book so I’m looking to forward to more. Grateful for my complimentary copy for my honest review in exchange.
Skye’s writing style is not for me. I enjoy a well set scene as much as the next reader, but some of the overemphasis on what Nissi or Kannon was wearing, or the thorough explanations on the state of Nissi’s underwear really threw me off. I also found the dialogue to be very repetitive and also overdone.
Firstly, thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC.
I feel mixed ways about this book - i feel like the things I liked about this book were the same things I did not like about the book. Firstly, I adored the story starting with a viral TikTok (I never saw the original, but so cute!). I love that kinda stuff, but I also felt like it was a little unrealistic at times. I mean, I guess love at first sight/instant attraction from a meetcute is also unrealistic.
I loved and hated the drama in the story. Like Nissi and Kannon's like side quests were annoying but also interesting. I feel like Nissi could've given Kannon a bit more grace at the end, but I digress. The story was like a slow burn, but also like they kinda hated each other. I also think the author could've been a little clearer about what was inner thoughts vs. story elements vs. like what they say outloud. I dont know how to describe it, but it was a little confusing to read.
I feel like Nissi's and Kannon's love and chemistry and connection was SOOOO GOOD and well written, that it made the other parts kinda annoying and less enjoyable by default (which I think was the point).
Overall, i ate this book up, but like also had some qualms with it and also hated Nissi and Kannon at various points.
*3.5
I really wanted to like this book but they just didn't spend enough time together. I am all for and instalove fastburn but for me they need to spend time together after that initial attraction and they just didn't. I also didn't love the way all of the men in the book spoke about women, it felt very demeaning. *Spoilers* I am a fan of cheating but for the most part I only like it when both parties know that it's cheating. So, I didn't love the beginning but I loved when they hooked up at the end.
This was a 3.5 for me.
The premise of the book interested me and it started off fast with Nissi getting trapped in an elevator where Kannon who was a firefighter came to rescue her. She didn't catch his name and used TikTok as she was already TikTok famous as the "dancing dentist" to hopefully meet him again to thank him. While the plan worked it took a turn that i did not see coming when he made a revelation that put a halt in them being an us and her even wanting to talk to him.
After this revelation they both tried to move on but couldn't stop thinking about each other and for me. I felt that is where the book dragged. In their individual relationships it seemed like they were just stringing their mate along when their mates wanted more from them that they were able to give but just stayed out of familiarity and not wanting to hurt the other person. Kannon came to the realization sooner than Nissi did so when they saw each other again he thought he would be able to approach her but that was when he found out she was in a relationship herself. Nissi's parents even knew that her boyfriend was not it for her but she didn't want to give in to the feelings she clearly had for Kannon because of what happened the one and only time they actually met up and went out.
Numerous times in the book when I thought she was going to give him a chance she didn't and then when she finally decided she was ready he shot her down which annoyed me at that point because it was to much back and forth.. We did finally get a HEA with Nissi and Kannon at the end but it took too long to get there and we didn't get to see much of them together as a couple through it all. This was a decent debut by Aries Skye and I would read more of her work but I just felt the delivery of this one could have been shorter and it could have done with a little less of the unnecessary details.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opinions expressed are my own. This is the first book that I've read by Aries Skye however, it won't be the last! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The storyline was good and it keep you interested from beginning to end. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good love story!
Zany and vivacious Nissi Richards always had her sights set on one goal—her career. As the youngest doctor at Optimal Dentistry, Nissi is the epitome of Black Girl Magic and a #GoalCrusher. Dating, however, was a different topic, or rather more of a non-existent headline. Despite her best friend's botched matchmaking attempts and her meddlesome sisters who insist she hook a man, love and marriage were never on Nissi's to-do list—at least not that she'd admit.
This was a really cute love story, very relatable! I’ve seen this book all over TikTok so I was happy when I saw it on here ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Highly recommend
Love on the Ninth Floor gets a solid 3 stars from me. I was intrigued by the premise of this love at first sight love story and quickly fell in love with Nissi and Kannon’s meet cute only to then get sucker punched by a series of conflicts that prevents them from being the right people for each other at the right time. Aries Skye adds a lot of depth to their journey by allowing us to see the main characters drift apart from each other, explore relationships with others, and find their way back to each other. At several points I found myself hoping Nissi ended up with someone else, but overall found her happy ending with Kannon to be satisfying. I loved the style of writing of this book and would definitely check out another novel focusing on Angela and Kinston’s story! Thank you to NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for a copy of this work.
Love on the Ninth Floor starts out with Dr. Nissi Richards, a young dentist and viral social media star. She seems to be having a bad day and is down on her luck. Her luck changes and after being stuck in a faulty elevator for hours, she is rescued by a breathtakingly handsome fireman, Kannon Jordan. After the shock of the entire ordeal passes, she decides to shoot her shot and ask social media for help in locating the fireman and once they connect, sparks fly.
The story itself has a lot of funny moments. I found myself laughing out loud at times. Especially with her and sisters and their antics. The sibling dynamics in this book were spot on! I'm excited to read more about the other characters throughout the series.
The flow of the plot definitely keeps you engaged with the emotional rollercoaster that is Nissi and Kannon. These two stressed me out! LOL! I enjoyed the story because I'm messy and needed to know how it ended but they took too long to get it together in my opinion. I was rooting for them to sort out their differences earlier on in the story so we could see more of their love story instead of their trauma. Everyone in their circle could see they were soulmates but they both were too stubborn, prideful, or maybe fearful to give into their desires and each other willingly and unconditionally.
All in all, this was an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading the love triangle trope as that was seen heavily throughout the story. At the end of the day, love always wins. Period.
Favorite Quote: "Seeing the emotion coursing through my being, she didn’t let up. My head fell back against the headrest in euphoric bliss. I had wanted to beast out on her, claim her, but she was claiming me."

*Love on the Ninth Floor* by Aries Skye is a delightful romance debut that delivers all the feels! Nissi Richards, a driven and vivacious doctor, has always been focused on her career, not giving much thought to love—until a chance encounter with the charming and grounded fireman, Kannon Jordan. Their chemistry is undeniable from the moment he rescues her from a malfunctioned elevator, setting the stage for a heartwarming and unexpected romance.
I loved how the story explored Nissi and Kannon's journey from reluctant attraction to something deeper, all while navigating the pressures and expectations from family and social media. The viral TikTok twist added a fun, modern element to their love story, making it feel fresh and relatable. Aries Skye has crafted a great romance debut that keeps you rooting for the characters and leaves you with a smile on your face. Perfect for anyone who enjoys a feel-good love story with a touch of #BlackGirlMagic and a lot of heart!

This was another romantic read that I enjoyed. I found that I was able to relate to the characters in this book which is sometimes hard for me to do. Highly recommended.
This was sweet and spicy. The cheating trope is not my favorite so it took a lot to get over that, but this story definitely redeemed itself in my eyes.
I enjoyed the banter between the MC’s and the fact that they both struggled to get it together at the same time. Love at 1st site? Yes please! I’ve already downloaded Angela’s story and can’t wait to dive into that next.
The one thing I didn’t enjoy was the constant brand name dropping.
Thank you Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for this Advance Readers Copy ebook in exchange for my honest review.
I loved reading this book, I felt so many emotions throughout. There was so much to devour here, love, secrets and excitement.
What I was thinking as I read this book.
When the mc does something trash and you are trying to figure out how their going come back from that.
He wants his cake and to eat it too
Not him defending Nissi against his girlfriend, lawd.
It's a bunch of lying and omitting going on.
Wow the lies are getting crazy.
The way she responds to his I love you is so telling
I'll see you next lifetime
Apology Tour - I'm sorry for 2004
Drama, drama, drama
There are a lot of lies and a lot of back and forth.
Love on the Ninth Floor was a fantastic story. I thought I loved the first book I read from this author, but I enjoyed this one even more. I cannot wait to read more of her books. The main characters were crazy in the best ways and by the end of the story I still couldn't get enough of them. I absolutely loved Nissi and her sisters Angela and Aquila. Their antics were entertaining and funny as heck. They argue just as much as they played but the love between these three sisters was undeniable. Kannon and Kinston are as close as brothers can be, and they stand up for each other and what is there's. I enjoyed them so much and I loved their dad even more. When pops spoke, he spoke the truth and all you had to listen. I felt bad for Benji
because he was a good guy but as much as I liked him, I loved Kannon more. The one thing this story was missing for me was that I wish there were more moments between Nissi and Kannon. I felt that there weren't enough moments with them, and I needed more. This rescue story was funny, sweet, steamy and had me laughing out loud. Bombs were dropped, secrets were revealed, connections were made, and a sweet HEA wrapped everything up. Readers looking for a feel-good romance story that will have them laughing out loud should not miss out on this story. It's one I will be recommending to my romance book loving friends.

This started off as a cute meet with almost love at first sight when Nissi and Kannon go viral on TikTok after their fire rescue, with Nissi making a TikTok video looking for the firefighter (Kannon) who saved her. #FireRescue. The date night turned into love at first sight while they BOTH felt like soulmates. Too cute, but then Kannon dropped his little bombshell, it went a totally different route and it made me NOT like Kannon that much anymore. Toward the end, it all worked out, but they (Nissi and Kannon) were giving me anxiety, stressing me out, and made me want to throat punch BOTH of them. Overall, a great READ! I highly recommend it.
