1. Overview:
During the Anarchy, the headstrong Sir Reynard Norwood is sent on a quest for the empress Matilda. It is during this quest that Sir Reynard discovers Lady Elysande Thorburn in desperate need of help. But Lady Elysande is as headstrong as Sir Reynard and does not want to leave her grandfather's estate to be helped. Through twists and turns and with the interferences of the Empress the story unfolds.
2. What did I like:
- There is sufficient action in the story and dialogue
3. What I did not like:
- The reason for Sir Reynard not wanted to be married is repeated too much.
- Many of the scenes are too predictable and anticlimactic.
4. Ratings and Final Thoughts:
While reading this book I had a strong sense of deja vu for example Sir Reynard's friend's characters seemed very familiar to me and I had not read the previous two novels in The Knights of The Anarchy Series. I would rate Knight of Havoc by Sherry Ewing 3 out of 5
What an enchanting love story. It was well written with such accuracy of the time period. The characters were strong-willed and delightful. It had drama, action, intrigue, violence, plot twists, and turns and much more of excitement that kept me entertained. I enjoyed the romance filled with a lot of love. I highly recommend reading!
Entertaining, Medieval Romance
He might be a Knight of Havoc, but Reynard is one of the heroes of old—a man you want to be on your side. He vowed never to fall in love again, but meeting Elysande might change his mind and open his heart. Elysande’s home was destroyed, leaving her and her people vulnerable and poor. Reynard could not leave her behind to fend for herself. Staying in her castle was dangerous, but was empress Matilda's court any less perilous? Soon, Reynard and Elysande would become immersed in court intrigue. There was a villain that would see them separated. Would he succeed?
This is an entertaining story. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to those who like medieval romantic adventures.
Knight of Havoc by Sherry Ewing is a story of the time of Empress Matilda’s war against Stephen to determine the next ruler of England. The three Norwood Brothers have been a part of that war from the beginning. Now Reynard’s older brothers are both married and away from the action, but he and his brother-by-choice, Richard, are going with an army to take Stephen out of captivity and trade him for the empress’ brother, Earl Robert. Along the way, as Reynard is scouting ahead, he comes upon a keep in shambles and discovers a young woman, a knight, and several servants, all on the brink of starvation. It takes several days, but between him and her knight, Lady Elysande Thorburn of Blackmore is convinced to accompany them to the empress’s court. Then things really take off.
Reynard’s first love, Johanna, had died many years earlier but she was still all he though of until slowly the memory morphed into a more current one: Lady Elysande. Unfortunately, other men were also interested so the empress decided to hold games with the winner becoming the lucky bridegroom. From there it got messy, with one of the contestants deciding the best way to win was to abscond with the girl. Reynard had not expected love and it threw him. All Elysande wanted to go home and live her life there. It was an enticing story, full of twists and turns and life at court in a very tumultuous time and that was reflected in the story. Ewing has written some good books in telling the stories of these three brothers. Full of love and difficulties.
I was invited to read the Knight of Havoc by Dragonblade. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #SherryEwing #KnightOfHavoc
Reynard is a soldier committed to Empress Matilda. As the 3rd brother in the series, he is looking to find his way to a happy future. He comes across Elysande, a strong woman who is grieving for the loss of a family member. This author weaves true history into a beautiful story filled with humor and antics that Reynard leaves in his wake. A truly beautiful series that has the reader fully immersed and craving the next book as they become so inverted with this family of soldiers.
This is a medieval romance set in a time of anarchy in England. There were two claimants to the throne, and those factions were at war. Much of England was destroyed by the armies.
The series follows brothers, so it is better to read in order, although you could read any of them on their own. Our hero is sworn to the Empress Matilda and has an important task to perform. Our heroine has had her home destroyed by Steven's army. There is not enough food to last her people through the winter.
We get a lot of battles and political manoeuvring to go with the romance. I do love this family of brothers. Each one is strong, intelligent, and just a little michevious. Our heroine is stubborn and independent, but also can be made to see reason.
This is a very exciting story that keeps the pages flying past.
I even got to see a minor character with my name. That's never happened before because my name is unusual.
I really look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I loved it.
3.5! ⭐
This is my first novel from the author, and I was overjoyed when I was accepted for the ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style owing to her attention to detail and description, which is both unmistakable and captivating. The descriptions are as good as being able to visualise what the author wants you to see. There is also a lot of detail about the characters' feelings and thoughts, which helps the reader come to know them better.
The only reason I couldn't give it four stars was because of the main characters' relationship. You see, they have a slight hatred for each other, and the FMC ignores and avoids him for a few pages. Nonetheless, without any conversation or other event occurring, she completely shifts her affection for him and even kisses the MMC. This occurs early in the novel, at the 20-30% mark. This felt confusing, and I found myself disconnecting from the characters since I couldn't fathom such a fast change without 'a reason'.
The rest, however, was great: the plot, outstanding suspense, the thorough description, etc. Simply put, the abrupt shift and its impact on their relationship were not for me.
Another brother has fallen for a beautiful young lady. Reynard, the youngest brother, is still working to get Empress in power over Stephen. A read that was a continuation of the story of the brother's and their lives. Keep up the great work.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the Publisher and leaving a review by my own choice.
I have been looking forward to reading this romance and was not disappointed. Having met Reynard in the previous books in this series, I wondered whether he would meet another warrior woman like his brothers had. Instead, he comes across Lady Elysande who is barely holding things together after Stephen and his soldiers had destroyed everything in and around her family's castle. Elysande is not only stubborn, but her strong sense of responsibility towards the people who serve the family makes it difficult for her to let go and allow Reyanrd to protect her en route to Empress Matilda. Despite the battle they are facing love blooms, much against Reynard's personal vow, but when Elysande is in danger, he leaves no stone unturned in coming to her rescue. I have enjoyed reading about the Norwood brothers, especially as despite the ongoing turmoil in their lives, they find the women who complete them. I received a copy of this exciting novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review
Love, honor, and duty make a great story
Reynard Norwood is the youngest of three brothers who lost their home when the usurper Stephen invaded their land. Pledging their swords to Empress Matilda, they each hope their service will regain their home, title, and land. His older brothers are settled and starting their families with their lands. Reynard is looking for his own home and land but doesn’t want a woman like his older brothers because of something that happened in his past. Empress Matilda tasks Reynard to fetch a prisoner for an exchange. On his way, Reynard finds Elysande Thornburn of Blackmore grieving her grandfather's death. Reynard refuses to allow her to stay at Blackmore Castle alone with no protection and compels her to join them on their journey back to the Empress. What could go wrong?
This is the third book in the Knights of Anarchy series by Sherry Ewing and even better than the first two. I was waiting for Reynard’s story and really enjoyed it. I laughed at the havoc Reynard seems to leave in his wake, sometimes through no fault of his own, and sometimes deliberate. I loved watching him fight his feelings for Elysande and finally give in. Elysande was strong, capable, and kind. She is the perfect match for Reynard. Ms. Ewing’s writing captivated me from the beginning, made me fall in love with her characters, and has me looking forward to Richard’s story next.
