This book was not what I was expecting. From the synopsis I thought it was going to be a cute rom com however this book discussed racism, eating disorders, the FMC’s best friend’s experience with being trans, and mentioned multiple different cultures within the first few chapters sometimes with a little history/geography lesson. There was basically no romance between the two main characters and unfortunately I was expecting a romance book. However, I really liked the mentions of Ontario that were sprinkled in the book as someone who's lived here my whole life. Most books I read are set in the US or Europe so I love books with Canadian representation. If you like books that discuss important topics and want to dive into a story about two people looking for love in the wrong places than I would give this book a try but if you're looking for a cute romance with a happily ever after I would say this isn't that kind of story.
TW: Also if you're sensitive about eating disorders or toxic relationships with food I wouldn't recommend this book just because this topic is brought up a lot
Cute and warm tale of two shy ones, different cultures, different baggage, who just keep playing message tag and filling in the blanks with shy insecurities. Everyone will find something to relate to and the author includes really well done experiences of body image, eating disorders and how insidious they can be as well as hard to escape, bullying, racism, and gender identity. All blended in a warm and tasteful way. Fast and delightful read.
