I love books like these. This one starts right in the action and I loved how Hamilton kept us on our toes and wove together a very thrilling story.

Another page-turning series starter from Grace Hamilton! Told from three perspectives, a damaged US Marshall (Dennis), the woman he is sworn to protect (Sarah), and her dangerous ex-husband (Andre). Both are trying to get to the college-aged daughter (Kim) after an EMP and grid collapse. Quite a bit of action and differing situations, Sarah (now Shannon) is living an alternate identity as a subject in the Witness Protection program. She is a long-haul trucker ending up stuck in a superstore after the storm doors lock down. Dennis is on suspension with the Marshall Service, but is determined to get to Kim, as he promised Sarah he would protect her. Villains and heroes emerge, sometimes difficult to recognize at first. The book ends as the characters seem about to converge, leaving the story ready for the upcoming sequel.

Trapped Days: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller by Grace Hamilton is a gripping post-apocalyptic survival thriller that drops readers into a world turned upside down. The story masterfully explores how ordinary people respond to extraordinary circumstances, the essential need for community, and the dangers of thinking single-mindedly. The book has a Walking Dead vibe without the zombies.

At its core, Trapped Days is a story of who will survive when there are no longer laws to follow. The characters are thrust into many life-threatening situations that test their instincts, resourcefulness, and resilience. The book is fast-paced and thrilling to the end. The narrative vividly depicts how people adapt (or fail to adapt) to their new realities, making this book a must-read for sci-fi, fantasy and fiction lovers.

Shannon is the protagonist whose unyielding determination and creative thinking often steer the group to make better decisions. Her leadership qualities shine through, though she is not without her vulnerabilities, making her a well-rounded and relatable character. Will she stand up and make a difference?

Dennis is the protector with military training. Never leave a man behind, duty and service always come first. Will he overcome his addictions and save the day?

Andre is Shannon’s ex-husband the prisoner. Does he find Shannon and create chaos?

Kim is Shannon and Andre’s only daughter. She was in college when the event happened. Shannon, Dennis, and Andre want only one thing to reach Kim. Do they all have her best interests at heart? Who finds her first? Does she even need their protection at this point? Or can she fend for herself without them?

I found Trapped Days to be an exhilarating read. In fact, it was my first Science Fiction read. The story moved at a swift pace, ensuring that there was never a dull moment. Grace Hamilton's writing kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, making it a book I could not put down. I had become burned out of the post-apocalyptic theme. Thank you for bringing me back to a genre that I had once genuinely enjoyed.

Ready to experience the adrenaline rush of Trapped Days? Join Shannon, Dennis, Andre, and Kim as they navigate a world where every decision could be their last. Cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Trapped Days", the first in a new series by author Grace Hamilton. I have to confess, I didn't know this author before deciding to give the book a try - but I was not disappointed. There are a lot of post-Apocalyptic series out there, but this one feels fresh.
Shannon is a long-haul trucker who is in Witness Protection after turning on her gangster husband who, although now in prison for life, has a long reach. With a new identity, Shannon has been separated from her daughter and her family for 5 years now, but has made sure that her daughter - at least - is safe, courtesy of Dennis, a US Marshal and her 'handler'.
But events are conspiring to put all of that in jeopardy. Dennis has been desperately trying to contact Shannon because his bosses have deemed him unfit to work and replaced him with another Marshal - one that neither Shannon nor her daughter, Kim, know.
Shannon is far, far away from her daughter, and has not been in contact with Dennis, when a catastrophic event traps her in a 'supercentre' where she had just stopped to make a delivery. Everything electronic dies all at once, trapping everyone in the massive store (think Costco on steroids) and with no outside contact, everyone has to either pull together or fall apart into anarchy. Shannon, along with a few other level-headed people, attempts to keep a lid on things while dealing with an officious store manager, a paranoid 'prepper' and her fears for her daughter. She must find a way out of this situation and get back to Kim.
Meanwhile, Dennis, equally trapped by both the failure of infrastructure and his many injuries and reliance on painkillers, sets off on a journey to find and protect Kim Nakamura (Shannon's daughter). He knows that the new Marshal is unknown to his protectees, and has no way of explaining to them what has occurred. Along the way, he's joined by a faithful companion - a dog who was owned by his now-deceased neighbour, who he calls Mutt, who will be instrumental in keeping Dennis on the (mostly) straight and narrow.
There is a third main character to this story - Andre, Shannon's ex-husband; currently incarcerated, he plans to take full advantage of the situation in order to wreak vengeance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and cannot wait for the subsequent instalments.

A gripping start to a post-apocalyptic series. When there is an electrical outage and America goes dark, long distance truck driver, Shannon, is trapped in a superstore along with staff and customers. Shannon's only priority is the safety of her daughter, Kim, but as she is in a witness protection programme after giving evidence against her dangerous husband, she is dependent on her witness protection officer, Dennis.

Dennis is trying to get to Kim, but in a world where everyone is panicking and it's every man for himself, it's not going to be an easy ride.

Andre, Shannon's ex-husband and Kim's father, sees the outage as an opportunity to escape from prison, find his daughter and take revenge on his ex-wife for betraying him.

Lots of drama, well-developed characters, great writing and a cliff-hanger of an ending! I can't wait for book 2!

4.5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Grace Hamilton and Relay for an ARC in return for an honest review.
