A young American woman in 1960s Nigeria, feeling stifled by her marriage and lack of freedom, has a one night stand with a charismatic singer that threatens to unravel her life.
Isabel is an intriguing protagonist who is struggling with her identity. I related to her right away, and I think other readers will too. There is a certain universality to her hopes and dreams that makes us understand and root for her.
As always, Orr's writing is lovely and evocative. She does a wonderful job of immersing the reader in the scene, and her knowledge of the place and time period add authenticity to the narrative.
I very much enjoyed Isabel's journey. DANCING WOMAN offers a multi-layered and rewarding reading experience. Highly recommended for fans of literary fiction.

This was a very good book and it was beautifully written. I love reading about new cultures and seeing things from a new Perspective because of that. It was informative and intricate. I loved how our main character was struggling with her cultural identity and her American one, it was a very good read! The characters were developed well and I liked the writing style
