Readers will either love or hate this book depending on their view of the laws on abortion. Views from both sides are played out in this story. In my view, some of the scenarios were a liitle too extreme. But there is extremism on both sides. Interesting read but not really a fan.

After her daughter bleeds out from a miscarriage in Texas, Patricia Scott kills the doctor who had failed to perform a medically necessary abortion. Her next target is the attorney who’d advised against the abortion out of personal ambition! Good book! It was very politically motivated? I guess? Very focused on abortion! Which I don’t really like reading about but I did agree with! I surely hope the laws in Texas are nothing like this book says?! That part was awful! The book did have suspense, murder, bombings, kidnapping, and some crazy laws! The storyline was very interesting!! I would recommend reading this book but keep in mind its focus?! Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for sharing this book with me!

This highly topical book delivers an intelligent take on an emotive debate. Set in Texas, it examines the impact of the restrictive abortion laws on the lives of individuals, and the consequences - intended and otherwise - that result from such laws.

Patricia is a mother who has lost her daughter after the letter was denied and abortion. Bereft and furious she is determined to seek revenge on those who played a part in contributing to the tragedy.

Lizzie is a private detective hired by one of the people who experience the fallout of Patricia's wrath. A very relatable character, Lizzie brings considerable warmth and ends up playing a pivotal part in Patricia's story, as the two find their paths unexpectedly intertwined.

A taut, emotional novel that will hit close to home for women in particular, this is a really interesting, very human story.

I’m always interested to read novels set in my native Texas. This one is going to cause a stir, depending on each individual’s religion (or lack there of), political stance and personal experiences. It is brimming with emotional decisions, thought provoking choices and timely issues. The majority of the characters and plot is realistic and plausible. I hadn’t read this author before and didn’t know what to expect. The story has played out in my mind since the restrictive Texas abortion laws were created. I’m going to limit my personal views to a simple declaration - I’m a woman and no one has the right to tell me what I can or cannot do with my body. The plot follows a grieving mother seeking revenge for her only daughters death. The characters included politicians, doctors, families, friends, children and religious groups. They were all portrayed with striking clarity. One of my favorites was Lizzie, who ran a Private Detective agency. She was someone I’d read more about, who could easily star in her own series. There were many tense situations, life or death moments and suspense at every turn of the page. I found it to be a very satisfying read. Thanks to the author for having the courage to write such an important narrative.

What an amazing plot line for a book, especially in the current political climate. Alternating between points of view of pro life and pro choice people, it makes clear the damage that anti abortion laws can cause. Everyone will relate to the anger of the woman avenging her daughter’s death. This book will live rent free in my head for quite some time. Really enjoyed reading it, and the way the author had the characters constantly consider the difference between what is right and what is legal. Now the plan is to go back and read the others in the series.
