Beautifully illustrated and thoughtfully written, this sweet story teaches mindfulness and gratitude flawlessly.
I love how the beginning of the story acknowledges the discomfort that our main character is feeling, a sensation that we as adults still feel, “And my brain feels squeezed inside my head. ‘I don’t want to do anything,’ I think.” The unnamed boy we follow is able to get back into his body and shake off the funky feeling by connecting with nature together with his Papa.
This one definitely has a place on our shelf. I love the questions and explanation of mindfulness at the end, though I was able to draw out that theme before reading the added context.

Much needed book for all (NOT JUST FOR THE KIDS) but this will be the cure to many of our problems just trying to go out regularly in the evenings after all the humdrums of the day!

I find the young character portrayed in the book quite worrying but I also know that most kids now are in the same situation.

It’s high time we make our priorities right and not get stuck in our rooms day and night.

The artwork is fabulous!

Thank you, Free Spirit Publishing, for the ARC.

Thank you Netgalley, Dan McCauley, and Jo Loring-Fisher for the ARC.

Thank You, Night is a surprisingly poetic book that describes and teaches mindfulness at a level that younger readers can understand.

I found the relationship between the father and son to be endearing. And I'm impressed at how the son was able to use gratitude and movement to work through his restlessness and discomfort.

I'd recommend this for ages 9+, or even better, as a read-a-long with a trusted adult.

This was such a quick but beautiful story. The illustrations were very dark monochromatic. I found it very sweet to be thankful for everything from the grass, the breeze, and night itself. Nighttime has a certain beauty and peace to it that many of us overlook. This book helped me remember that and I hope to enjoy and be thankful for darkness and nighttime from now on.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.

In this story, we learn about peace, gratitude, mindfulness, and mindful movement. The illustrations are beautifully detailed and dreamy. The writing is peaceful and soothing. It's a bedtime story, but it's also a guide to grounding yourself.

Beautiful and restful, perfect for before bedtime.

Thank You, Night is a lovely new children’s picture book by author Dan McCauley and artist Jo Loring-Fisher, and it would be the perfect wind down at the end of the day. At the close of the day, a young boy is unable to slip away from the thoughts and feelings of his day. But as he takes his customary evening walk with his father, the calm, loveliness of the night and his awareness of the natural world around him eases his mind and body to finally welcome sleep. The illustrations are captivating in their colors and execution, drawing your imagination in with the soothing text that accompanies them. I loved the gentle descriptions of the breeze tapping the boy on the shoulder and the muted background images that completed each scene. I recommend THANK YOU, NIGHT for young listeners and their older readers.

I really loved the simplistic writing in this and how it managed to showcase the appreciation for things easily left unnoticed and unappreciated. The art matched the vibe perfectly and I would be happy to purchase this for my kids.

This was a gorgeous book!
I really enjoyed reading it with my child. It really emphasises the importance of disconnecting and enjoying the world with your loved ones. It felt calming to read.
It was reminiscent of "You are Loved", one of my favourite kids' books.
I liked how it encourages children to be grateful, with simple identifiable elements from nature (ocean, moon, beach, breeze).
The art was really lovely too, and suited the book perfectly.
A great bedtime book.

I think "Thank You, Night" would be a great book to add to any household collection, especially those that want to work on emotional regulation. The actions of the main character and his father finding ways to calm his mind and body were excellent models that could be used in a moment's notice. I also think the addition of feeling and expressing gratitude in the actions and things that help to calm and ground us should be a more common practice, not just in children, but in adults as well. The Questions to Think and Talk About in the end is a great addition and chance for reflection. It's very obvious that this is "teacher created" because the very obvious and intentional SEL components are fantastic.

This cute little book encourages the reader to absorb and appreciate all of the little aspects of the night. What can often be a frightening time for many small children is turned into a relaxing setting in this book. I think it will make a great addition to my library.
