When I started this book, I would never have guessed I would be giving it such a low review. I was interested in this storyline at the beginning but the more I got into it, the angrier and disgusted I got. There was no enjoyment in reading this. And that ending. I don't want to give anything away but it just made me angrier.

Kiersten is the Queen of thrillers! There is no doubt in my mind that anything she writes is going to be fabulous. This one was that! I had no clue where this one was going. The twists and turns were throwing me off and keeping me guessing. The plot had me in a choke hold! I literally couldn’t stop listening to this audiobook, I finished it in less than a day. At the end when I thought I had it figured out.. WRONG! I don’t see that one coming! Kiersten is the Queen, Freida who??

The narrators brought this one to life with ease. That sinister plot was taken to the next level with this crew. I love audiobooks and how well played out this one was done was top tier. Fantabulous job!!

I enjoyed the twists and turns of this thriller. The ending was a bit far fetched for me but overall it was a great listen. The only issue I had was telling the difference between all of the narrators but it wasn’t a big deal. Overall this was a fun thriller, perfect for spooky season.

Kiersten Modglin delivers another suspenseful thriller in The Guilty One. The book is packed with twists and tension, keeping the reader engaged until the final reveal. The complex characters and the exploration of guilt, lies, and secrets add depth to the story. While some plot points may feel a bit predictable for seasoned thriller readers, the fast-paced narrative and psychological intrigue make it a worthwhile read. Fans of domestic thrillers will enjoy the gripping suspense and moral dilemmas woven throughout.

Rating: 3.5 stars!

The premise of this book surprisingly caught me off guard. The multi-POVs with the multi-timelines carried the story. The ending felt flat to me.. But the book was great leading up to it!

Wow! Imagine being told your husband was killed in a car accident only to find out that it’s definitely not your husband but he has your husband’s tattoo, his wallet, phone & is driving his car. Celine is on a mission to find out what happened to her husband & the father of her two kids. It’s so awful!
I didn’t see the ending coming.
A gobble-it-all-up-in-one-sitting kind of book

"The guilty one" is a fast paced, dark themed thriller.
So many crazy twists and turns and I honestly had no idea where it was going to end up! I would highly recommend to anyone that likes psychological thrillers and mysteries!
The book starts off when Celine receives a phone call informing her that her husband has been in a car incident he did not survive.
When she is asked to identify his body she is flooded with relief as she realizes the man isn't her husband. But who is he, why was he driving her husbands car and why did he have her husbands phone and wallet on him?

No Modglin novel is complete without some shocking twists, and "The Guilty One" delivers plenty.

From a reader’s perspective, "The Guilty One" offers an emotional rollercoaster. Modglin’s writing is both engaging and accessible, immersing you in both storylines while making you second-guess everything you thought you knew about the characters. For fans of domestic thrillers, this book is a masterclass in suspense, with plot twists that naturally stem from the characters’ motivations rather than feeling contrived for shock value.

Kiersten Modglin once again proves herself a powerhouse in the thriller genre. If you're craving a dark, twisted tale of secrets and deception, "The Guilty One" should be at the top of your reading list. Be ready to question everything and everyone by the time you reach the final page.

Celine gets a phone call no one ever wants…her husband has been killed in a car accident and she needs to come identify his body. When she gets there she is shown photos of a body that shares a matching tattoo with her husband, but it is not him. So why was this man driving her husband’s car? What is happening? And where is her husband now? Celine has more questions than answers and she isn’t sure she is ready to find out all her husband has kept hidden from her.

Modgin is always a fantastic read. I loved this audiobook…the narrator was great! You can always count on a twist or two that leave your jaw hanging and this book didn’t disappoint!

Thanks NetGalley for providing me with an early copy of this audiobook!

The author did an excellent job providing readers with suspense, twists, and turns with this addictive book. However, there were a few scenes in the book that I feel like they were added simply for a shock factor. Those scenes did make my jaw drop, but it didn't add to the overall story. I think they could have been not-so-graphic and actually connected better with the story.

The narrator was the perfect choice for this book.

Kiersten Modglin never disappoints. The Guilty One was definitely a page turner. From the very first page I couldn't help but try to figure out what was going on. I had several theories throughout and only figured it out just before the reveal. The narrators captured the characters voices perfectly.

If you're looking for a well paced thriller that keeps you guessing this is a great choice.

Another book by this author and I was hooked the entire time. The story was different from what I've read before and it goes in past and present timelines. The past timelines with the husband's friends were very difficult to read and i didn't really like them. They're dark and would require trigger warnings. The present chapters were engaging to read. The twists were a little over the top and i didn't understand the need for it but it was okay. Overall a solid 3 star book.

This one disappeared from my galley when I didn’t realize I hadn’t downloaded it, but I’m glad I found it released and took the time to listen! Wow I loved it. So many twists and turns in the plot and didn’t see the last few chapters coming till the end and the the total last chapter surprise?! Great writing, didn’t want to put it down! Loved the readers of each character and seeing it from different sides. Definite recommend for me to all my book club and mystery friends out there! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the read in turn for my honest review!

Reading Between the Wines book review #90/130 for 2024:
Rating: 4 🍷🍷🍷🍷
Book: The Guilty One
Author: Kiersten Modglin
Available now!! Released on September 3, 2024!

Sipping thoughts: I cannot say this often about Modglin’s books, but I figured out part of the twist in this one. I’ve been able to do that maybe only 3 times but what I love about KMod’s books are how the twists are developed and shared. One great thing about this book was even though I knew one part, I couldn’t dare figure out the rest of the twist and enjoyed it. I loved the storyline and how it all tied in together. And let me say, one of the characters is definitely in my top 10 of the worse characters ever.

Cheers and thank you to @DreamscapeMedia and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @TheGuiltyOne.

While I'm usually impressed by a Modglin thriller, this one missed the mark for me. Surprisingly it was a bit too dark and disturbing for my liking and the plot was pretty farfetched. Both the male and female narrators were easy to listen to but the characters themselves were unlikable. Even though I've enjoyed some of her other books, I wouldn't recommend this one. My thanks to Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to the audio version via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

📚✨ Another absolute hit from Kiersten Modglin! "The Guilty One" is a whirlwind of suspense and drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. 😱🔍 The twists are relentless, making it impossible to put down. Whether you’re diving into the audiobook or the physical copy, you’re in for a treat. The full cast of narrators did an outstanding job, adding layers of intensity to the already gripping plot. This might just be the most dramatic and twisty KMod book in recent memory. I loved every page of it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 stars!

The Guilty One by Kiersten Modglin was a wild ride. If you like fast paced, dark thrillers, with many twists and turns, and whodunits then you will love this book.

Celine Thompson gets a call that her husband Tatum “Tate” had been in a car wreck and didn’t survive. When she gets to the morgue to identify his body turns out it’s not her husband. Everyone is not what they seem and Celine soon learns that the people in her life may not be who she thought they were.

I really enjoyed this quick read, once I started it I didn’t want to put it down. I thought this storyline and plot were so good. I thought I had it figured out but I was not even close. That ending completely threw me for a loop. It felt like you were going through all of this with Celine, trying to figure out what happened to her husband, saving her family, and trying to keep things normal and calm for her kids. I can’t wait to read more of her books. Narrators Mia Hutchinson-Shaw; Chad Ackerman; Evan Sibley; Melissa Kay Benson did such an amazing job and were perfect for the story. Thank you to Dreamscape Media, Kiersten Modglin, and NetGalley for letting me listen to this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
