This one was good, I didn’t see any of the twists coming. I didn’t particularly care for any of the characters which was probably due to the secrecy and unknown of what was going on. I did enjoy the dual timelines and it added to the story. As always this story was short and to the point, which always helps me when I hit a reading slump.

Wow.

KMod always delivers, every single time. Her books are always entertaining, fast paced and totally bingeable. This book is no exception. It is suspenseful, twisty and a teeny bit sadistic! There are a number of twists that will keep you on edge and reading, needing more.

Most of the twists I saw coming, but the one twist had my jaw on the floor! Chapter 30's revelation I did not see coming at all and I LOVED it! All other twists throughout the book paled in comparison to this one.

I found Tate's disappearance a tad unrealistic and unbelievable. I understood why it happened and how it happened. There was just something that didn't sit quite right about it for me. Otherwise, this was a fantastic read.

Well done, KMod! Another hit!

4.5 stars!

In the book The Guilty One, author Kiersten Modglin follows Celine Thompson who is told her husband died in a car crash. But when she asks to see the body everything takes a turn. It’s not him. So who is the body that was driving her husbands car, had his wallet, and had the same strange tattoo? This was a great story with lots of twists and turns. I would recommend this book. The audio-book narration was very good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Modglin does it again. I don't how she keeps coming up with such great stories but she somehow does.

Celine receives a call from the authorities telling her that her husband has been killed in a car accident. When she views the photos the police show her, she realizes that the man is not her husband. The man had her husbands car and identification. But who is he? Why was he driving her husbands car? And just where is her actual husband??

In the coming days Celine must keep her family together, find out where is husband is and what actually happened.

Let me just tell you now: you will never guess!

What a fun and twisty ride. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out. I couldn't get through it fast enough.

The audio version is narrated by several voices. I really liked that aspect. They all did a great job portraying the various characters.

I was worried, horrified, concerned and downright shocked at different times throughout the book.

Wow! What a story!

Thanks to netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the arc.

I really enjoyed this crazy rollercoaster storyline! Just when you think you know what’s going on, Modglin throws one of her famous curveballs at you. Prepare yourself to be thoroughly engrossed. I couldn’t put this one down & read in one sitting.

This was a very twisty mystery; every time I thought I had it all figured out, another secret or piece of information was revealed.
I love Kiersten Modglin's writing, she managed to keep me guessing to the very end. I will definitely be reading more of Kiersten's work in the future.

The narrators, Mia Hutchinson-Shaw; Chad Ackerman; Evan Sibley; Melissa Kay Benson, all did a great job narrating this novel. They made it easy to distinguish who was speaking and that allowed me to keep all the characters separated in my brain.

Celine has a charming husband, adorable children, and a lovely home. When she gets a call that her husband has died in a horrific car accident, things are about to get bizarre.

The dual POVs, past and present, lead to a shocking revelation. The book is fast-paced and deals with some challenging topics—SA, manipulation, and blackmail. I loved the twist and enjoyed this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Publishers, and Kiersten Modglin for an ARC of The Guilty One! I’m still in shock over this book! This was so twisty, sinister, jaw dropping — I could’ve never predicted what happened in this book! I was so engrossed in this book to find out what happened — with time permitting this could easily be done in one sitting! The narrators were absolutely fantastic. Mia Hutchinson-Shaw sounded very similar to one of my favorite narrators and she’s been promoted to instant buy. They were all easy to listen to and understand. I have only read a few of Kiersten’s books, but she’s already deemed herself an instant buy as well and can’t wait to devour the rest of her books! I will be thinking about this book years to come 😂

Celine receives that one phone call no one ever wants to receive. Your husband has been in a fatal accident and we need you to come identify the body. But when Celine arrives and sees the photos.. something isn’t right. That isn’t her husband. Surely she would be able to identify his body even after an accident? But why would this man be in her husband’s car and they also have matching tattoos? Everything Celine knows about her husband is starting to turn upside down. Celine tries and tries to reach her husband hoping this is all a big misunderstanding and he’s still alive. Celine tries to put pieces together and realizes there is much more to her husband than she ever suspected. There are some dark truths that are just waiting to be found. What Celine soon discovers is nothing she could have ever imagined and there is more than one guilty person in this web of lies. Celine will stop at nothing to ensure her safety and her sons.

The Guilty One written by Kiersten Modglin and narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley, and Melissa Kay Benson was a very engaging listen. I really enjoyed these narrators, especially Evan Sibley.

Wow. I did not see that coming. The end - it was a lot - a whole lot. I enjoyed the twists and turns until the almost end when all the details were spilled.

But I can say the author kept me guessing up until the end. It was an enjoyable listen.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced listen in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This domestic thriller had me gripped from the very start. It kicks off with a shocking moment—a wife receives the devastating news that her husband has died in a car accident. But when she views the photos at the police station, she realizes they don’t match her husband. Instead, it’s an old college friend.

From that moment, the story took me on an unpredictable journey. The unraveling mystery and the growing tension were skillfully delivered, leaving me constantly on edge. Each twist seemed to come out of nowhere, making the experience all the more riveting.

The way the story unfolded, with its surprises and emotional intensity, made this thriller an unforgettable listen. For anyone who loves a suspenseful plot with plenty of unexpected turns, this one is a must.

I enjoyed the fast pace with Celine getting the call to the police station in the opening scene and the continuing tension carrying through to the end. I enjoyed the two POV characters, Celine and Tate. Tate's dark backstory might be triggering for some readers so I would suggest being aware of the triggers. The build-up to the big reveal kept me glued to my airpods, and the twists were well-executed. Fans of darker academia thrillers and domestic thrillers would enjoy this one.

This was a decent thriller and the audio was good. It was more violent than and descriptive than others and some of it was a little intense for me, but a good thriller!

When Celine is called to identify her husband's body after an accident she thinks things can't get any worse. But when it ends up not being her husband, that's when things get even stranger.

Kiersten Modglin is quickly becoming a go to for twisty thrillers that are so addicting! Here's what I loved in this one:

The story: This had some really good twists and turns. I really enjoyed the conclusion of this one! It was really out of the box.

Celine: Man did I feel for her while reading this. She has the rug literally pulled right out from under her. Her an actions made sense and you are rooting for her to figure out what was really going on.

The audio; This is my third Modglin that I've listened to and I can't recommend it enough. All of the narrators do an amazing job getting into the characters, especially in some of the past chapters that were harder to read because of the content.

Overall, a really great and twisty thriller.

Thank you to the author and Dreamscape Media for the gifted audiobook!

KMod does it again with this suspenseful thriller. KM really knows how to write plot twists that leave you feeling unsettled- in a good way! I read this in a little over an hour and did not stop once!

This story is about 5 men that grew up in foster care together. One of them was adopted and the rest aged out. Then a dark secret blows them apart one night and they all agree to never speak of it again. Until someone does and their little group starts turning up dead.

Several twisty turns here and I was surprised by almost all of them. Surprised in a - holy moly, hold on a minute- WHAT?! - moment.

The audiobook of The Guilty One is done perfectly. Multiple narrators- Mia Hutchinson-Shaw; Chad Ackerman; Evan Sibley; Melissa Kay Benson- make this story come to life. I was so engrossed and engaged you'll feel like you are listening to a movie.

Kiersten Modglin has mastered writing a book that you won’t want to put down and this one was no exception. Her style of writing makes the story fly by and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I will admit with this one I definitely saw the twists coming, but I thought they were well written and fun. Celine gets the call everyone fears getting - there had been a car accident and her husband was dead. But when she went to identify the body she was shocked to find that while there were some similarities, some suspiciously so, it was not her husband. But the question remained where was her husband and as she looked for him she discovered she also needed to find what secrets he had been hiding from her. The audiobook was excellent and the narrators did an excellent job bringing the story to life.

Kiersten Modglin is definitely one of my all time favorite authors! She always delivers a fast-paced thriller with a bonkers ending. I thought for sure I knew what the plot twist was gonna be on this one but I was absolutely wrong. It was so much better than I ever could’ve guessed!

I was sucked into this story immediately! Its a dark (I would check trigger warnings before reading) and suspenseful thriller with some good twists at the end. Everything was fast paced but laid out well, I was easily able to keep track of the plot and all the different characters. This would make a perfect Fall weekend read. The narrators did a really great job too.

Proof that your past always comes back to haunt you. 3.5 stars.

I was intrigued by the mystery. What happened to Tate? Was he dead or alive? I couldn't stand the FMC. Celine was whiney and annoying. The flashback chapters added some depth but were hard to hear. Tate was truly a terrible person at college. More than half way through I had no idea where the story was going. The conclusion was both unique and implausible. Almost everyone was guilty in this story. Kiersten Modglin always writes stories that keep you guessing until the very end and this one was no exception. I loved the dual narrators.

Content warnings - sexual assault (on page, not too graphic) child sexual assault/abuse (mentioned, from the past)
