Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ALC.

“The Guilty One” is a very fast, short popcorn thriller. Anyone that enjoys Freida McFadden will probably like this one. It would be a good one for someone new to the thriller genre. It has great reviews on NetGalley and Goodreads, but I am an outlier. It was short and entertaining, but just didn’t hit for me.
After Tate is involved in a fatal car accident, Celine goes to identify his body and what she discovers sends her life into a spiral. The story alternates between Celine and her husband Tate with a lot of flashbacks thrown into the mix. I recommend checking the trigger warnings as I went into it blind and found some of the flashback content to be a bit much for me.

I didn’t guess the twist.

The narrators were wonderful. The male narrator did a wonderful job during the dramatic scenes of inflicting the emotions written on the page. If you’re into audiobooks, this one is a good one to listen to.

Kiersten Modglin is an amazing author who doesn't seem to ever miss the mark with the perfect amount of mystery, suspense, and dark twists!
Imagine getting a phone call saying your husband was in a tragic fatal accident. You are asked to identify him only to realize the man you are looking is not your husband. Celine is living this reality and now must figure out where her husband Tate had disappeared to and who the man was in his car.
I listened to the audio book The guilty one. And might I say I've yet to find an audio book of Modglins where the cast is nothing but stellar.
I found the characters interesting and even loathed a few. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. And one cool tidbit is there is a quote from Verya Bitter in the beginning of the book (if you read Bitter House you know what I'm talking about). 1000% a five star read!

What's the saying? Death, taxes, and .... Kiersten Modglin slaying it with another twisty thriller? That sounded so lame but it's completely true. Kiersten Modglin has been one of my favorite authors when I need a nice romance cleanse. When I pick up one of her books, I know it's going to keep me guessing until the end & this one was no different.
I absolutely loved the twist(s) at the end. I could have easily finished this one in one-sitting.
This was her darkest novel yet - I was shocked by some of the themes (trigger warning). But, it evoked so much emotion and couldn't believe the actions from some of these characters. It was WILD.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves a fast-paced, twisty thriller!!

🎙️ Narration

*Remember to research trigger warning(s) before reading/listening. Happy Listening! 😊*

I was completely hooked! The voice actors were superb! I am a fan of Kiersten Modglin's books, and I think this ones my favorite.

This is a dark, realistic and engulfing domestic novel done in the usual Kiersten Modglin style. She captures the reader and doesn't let go until the last line.. Celine Thompson’s life is forever changed when the police show up at her door telling her that her husband has died in a car accident. When she goes to identify him she discovers it's not her husband but someone who looks fairly similar. Why was someone else driving his car and caring his phone and drivers license? AND, where is her husband? As things begin to unravel, more secrets and lies are discovered. Sit down and hold on tight as this is an interesting ride. I recommend reading this book!

As always Kiersten doesn’t disappoint! This has to be my new favorite by her. I loved the narrators. They both kept my attention.

This was a good audio! Intriguing story and easy to follow! I always consider that a plus with an audiobook. There were some very dark and disturbing parts that had me tempted to rate the book lower. But then the twists started coming and I felt that the book redeemed itself!

Took me a bit to get into it but then I was hooked and was totally caught off guard by the twist. I was convinced it was similar to another story I read but I should have known there was something more! So good. Definitely recommend! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

Celine gets a call that her husband was in a car crash. She goes to view the body and it’s not her husband, but someone else in her husband’s car. You would think it would be a relief for Celine, but… where is her husband and why was this person in his car? Immediate questions start reeling in hers and my head!
This one was twisty x50, but I never expect nothing less from KMod! This was a quick listen that I finished in one sitting! As characters are introduced I felt like Celine must have felt. Learning about her missing husband was a mind blowing experience for sure! It’s dark, crazy, and makes you question just about everyone and everything. What had her husband been hiding? Who else is hiding things? What in the world is about to happen next?? This is another that I can’t say too much about to keep from spoiling the plot. Just know it’s a ride! The audiobook was a quick listen too!
If you’ve experienced a KMod psychological thriller and enjoyed the crazy, you will 💯 enjoy this audiobook!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this audiobook. This book was a great thriller. Her husband is missing but the guy the police found dead in his car was not her husband. While she searches for her husband she discovers a past she was unaware of. This book kept me on my toes! The twist was mind blowing. I devoured this book in 1 day!

Just when I thought I had it...nope! Twist on top of twist! Finished in one day. Sucked me in from the very beginning! The audiobook is multi narration with jumping from past to present. Darker than anticipated which added to the angst!!!! Sooo good!

This one was such an intense listen for me!! I literally binged this book in one day! It was so good!!
Celine really goes through a range of emotions in this book and it all felt so real. I was hooked from the beginning and I honestly couldn't put this audiobook down. It was so good. I did figure out some of the mystery but it didn't take away from the book at all. I still gasped at some of the revelations. That ending!! Oh so dang good!! Speechless.
The narrator, Mia Hutchinson-Shaw is amazing! I could feel the grief, anger, and relief very well in the tones and inflections used. Mia used a variety of tones and inflections to portray many of the characters in the book and I never felt lost.

The Guilty One by Kiersten Modglin
The Guilty One is a fast-paced domestic thriller that keeps the twists coming until the very end.
When Celine gets a call from the police, asking her to come to the station to identify her husband Tate, her world implodes. After seeing photos of the man killed in the accident, she quickly realizes that it's not her husband. Who is this man in her husband's car with his ID? And where is her husband? As the story unravels, between both the present and past flash backs, you quickly find yourself drawn into this mystery. How well do you really know the person you are married to? Will her life ever be the same?
I really like the way Kiersten develops the characters. I definitely thing some trigger warnings should be at the beginning, not that those usually stop me, but this book did have some darker aspects.
Once again, Kiersten nails it with this mystery thriller. From the first few lines, from Vera Bitter, I was ready for a fast-paced roller coaster of a story. She quickly draws you in and grabs hold of your attention, making it hard to stop reading until the very end. I enjoy the way she writes, having twists that you can see developing as the story goes. Fans of Daniel Hurst and Freida McFadden will enjoy the dark twists. Twists that keep your mouth open until the very last sentence. I can't wait to read what comes out of her brilliant mind next.
I listened to the audiobook version and definitely enjoyed the cast, Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley and Melissa Kay Benson. The narrators were great, quickly drawing you into the story. I will be looking for more books read by them. The story moves very fast and keeps you hanging on, trying to guess what will happen next.

Buckle up, bookworms! I just finished The Guilty One by Kiersten Modglin, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride! I went in completely blind, knowing nothing about the author's style, and boy, was I in for a treat. (Just a heads up, there are some sensitive themes of sexual abuse, so proceed with caution).
If this is how Modglin usually writes, I've got some serious catching up to do! This book was a five-star knockout that had me picking my jaw up off the floor multiple times. The twists and turns were insane! Celine, the main character, was so easy to connect with, and I won't even get started on the other characters because that would spoil the fun.
Seriously, if you're looking for a thrilling read that will keep you guessing until the very end, "The Guilty One" is it. I couldn't put it down, and I'm already craving more from Modglin. Consider me a new fan!

This is the kinda thriller that’s a perfect bridge book. 215 pages. Good storyline. Good twists. It’s fun. A nice reset if you’ve read something longer and maybe took a lot out of you. This was easy to listen to on audiobook and very entertaining.

✨Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the gifted audio copy of this book!✨
I wasn’t totally sure about this one at first. The first third or maybe half of the book was a little bit slow, and I was getting frustrated how far into the book we got without any answers or revelations. But then, it picked up and it got wild.
There were twists in this book that I totally didn’t see coming, and I always appreciate that in a thriller. This is my fourth K Mod book and this one was significantly darker than others I’ve read, and it was both shocking and exciting to see her bend the boundaries a little bit.
This wasn’t a terribly unique take on a long buried secret threatened to come to light, I think we’ve seen it done a lot of times in a lot of ways but the big twist set it apart from other similar storylines.
The narrators did a great job, particularly the voice of Celine. She expressed so much emotion and I just really enjoyed her performance.
Overall, I liked this one and would recommend it. I always look forward to see what Kiersten Modglin comes up with next!

I have read many of Kiersten's books, but this one was by far the best! I was immediately captivated and found myself unable to stop listening to the audiobook.
Celine Thompson's life is turned upside down when she is told her husband was in a fatal accident, only to discover the man who died wasn't actually him. As she searches for her missing husband, she uncovers dark secrets and realizes she may not have known him at all. With time running out, Celine must uncover the truth and discover the fate of her husband.
This thrilling book includes suspenseful secrets and captivating writing that will keep you engaged throughout. The story is filled with unexpected twists and turns, and flashback scenes provide insight into the characters' pasts.
The audio version is also well-done, with excellent narrators bringing the story to life. The narrator did an outstanding job of keeping me engaged every moment of the day. I struggled to tear myself away and attend to my responsibilities. Despite my careful attention, I was unable to predict the ending and the events leading up to it. This book was truly gripping, and I highly recommend adding it to your TBR list.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for audiobook ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I got the opportunity to listen to Kiersten Modlin's audiobook! This is the second book I've read from her.
Celine gets a call from the police, giving bad news that her husband has been in a fatal accident. When she goes to identify the body. It's not him.
My mouth is on the FLOOR after listening to this. This whole time, I kept trying to figure out what the heck had happened. This is a duo pov, and it switches from past to present, leading up to the truth of what actually happened. There is an ABSOLUTE mind-blowing plot twist at the end. I did not see it coming!
I felt so bad for Celine. She was deceived and just confused the whole time.
Tate, omg, he was just sick. The things that happened made me sick to my stomach. PLEASE check trigger warning before reading. Not much triggers me, but I got sick listening to his pov.
I really liked the narrators they made the story even better. They did an awesome job.
