Huge thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion - set to publish 9/3/24
There were So many twists & turns I didn't see coming.
This kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know what would happen next the entire book. I did not see the ending coming at all!
(Trigger warning for some sexual abuse)

I absolutely LOVE Kiersten Modglins books! Every single one has been a hit!

Your husband was involved in a fatal accident.
One horrific sentence, delivered in an impersonal phone call, changes Celine Thompson’s life in a second. But when she’s asked to identify his body, what she discovers sends everything she thought she knew about her life crashing down.
This man is not my husband.
But who was the man who died driving Tate’s car? How did he have Tate’s possessions and, more importantly, why do they sport identical tattoos?
We’re going to find him.
When Tate doesn’t answer his phone or arrive home after the accident, Celine fears the worst. 4/5 stars. So many twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen the whole time. Didn’t see the ending coming at all

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for this ALC in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 on Goodreads)
This was such a fun and fast-paced read! If you’re looking for compulsively readable thrillers like Freida McFadden (but significantly better written with more realistic plot twists), you should give Kiersten Modglin a try. This was such a quick read, I literally listened to the entire audiobook in one sitting.
This story primarily follows Celine Thompson. After receiving a life changing call from a police officer saying that her husband Tate was killed in a tragic car accident, she’s asked to come down to the station to identify his body. However, when she sees the body, she realizes that the deceased man is not her husband. So who was this man driving her husband’s car? And where is her husband?
While elements of this were very predictable, the characters were very engaging and the pacing were well executed. The ending felt a little incomplete and unsatisfying, but it was still a fairly fitting conclusion to a wild ride!
I'd highly recommend the audiobook as well, it had multiple narrators and I felt like they all did a great job to encapsulate their character.

Stunning! I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting!
Celine gets a call to say her husband has been involved in a fatal car accident, but when she identifies the body, it's not Tate. He was driving Tate's car, carrying his ID and has the same tattoo though, so who is he really and where is Tate?
This book is dark, twisty and so brilliantly written! When the first big twist hit, I was literally stunned - absolutely genius! And once the mysteries started unravelling and the truth was revealed, the twists kept on hitting, right into the shocking epilogue.
I listened to the audiobook, which was skilfully narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw; Chad Ackerman; Evan Sibley; Melissa Kay Benson, who did a fantastic job in bringing these brilliant characters to life and I always appreciate a full cast.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape for an ARC in return for an honest review.

•Title: The Guilty One

•Genre: Thriller/suspsense
•Format: Audiobook, 6.5 hours
•Audio publication day: September 3, 2024
•Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis: A woman’s husband is found dead in a car crash. When she is called in to the police station to identify the body, she is utterly surprised, and secrets from the past begin to come out.
*It has multiple POVs, past/present timelines, the story is fast paced and keeps you guessing. As usual, K-Mod delivers the plot twists!
Thoughts: This is one of my favorite Kiersten Modglin’s books yet! The audiobook was phenomenal and enhanced the experience for me.
The narrator’s did an amazing job. Sometimes they can make or break an audiobook, and these narrators made the story even better. There was a different narrator for each POV, which is truly my favorite kind of audiobook. Narrators: Mia Hutchison-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley, and Melissa Kay Benson. They conveyed their emotions, sounded believable, and brought these characters to life.
Highly recommend!

SOOOO GOOD!
Imagine being told your husband was killed in a car accident only to find out that it’s definitely not your husband but he has your husband’s tattoo, his wallet, phone & is driving his car. Celine is on a mission to find out what happened to her husband & the father of her two kids. It’s so awful!
I didn’t see the ending coming.
Thank you NetGalley & Dreamscape Media. Great book! I look forward to more from Kiersten Modglin.

I’ve read most of Modglin’s books at this point and can definitely verify that this one gets darker than most of her others. However, it was a great mystery/thriller. I thought the reveal was great and loved that Tate was who he was and not the horrible, disgusting man “changed” into an amazing husband (that would have been hard to believe). I typically have a hard time with parents/parental figures as the villains against their “kids”, but for some reason this felt more believable than when a similar situation occurred in her “You Can Trust Me” book. Definitely worth the read!

I absolutely LOVED this! I devoured it in one listen. I was hooked from beginning to end. There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming. This was fast paced, and kept me at the edge of my seat in anticipation. Highly recommend!

Oh, so good! I listened to this audiobook all in one sitting. There is something about KMod's books that I literally have to devour it all. Start to finish. The Guilty One will leave you questioning how well you know the people closest to you. The narrators in this book were amazing. I loved their tone, and they really brought the story to life for me. 5 big stars!

Any time I see new Kiersten Modglin I get excited to see what her twisted brain can come up with next LMAO. This one is one of her darkest and I was here for it (not sure what that says about me but what can ya do).
I'm giving this 3.5 stars as it was tense and had great ending twists.
This sucked me in right from the start with a super strong opening, as Celine finds out her husband has been in a fatal car crash. Or has he? There were some questionable moments in this for me (for instance, she literally thinks to herself "am I going to get in trouble for impeding a police investigation" like girl what). But, overall, this was super tense as she tries to unwind the mystery of her husband's disappearance. A quick read that kept me wanting to know what would happen next.
I thought the narrators did such a great job. When we get to Tatum 12 years ago.... PHEW that character is hard to read from his POV! But very well-written.
Big thanks to my besties at Dreamscape for the approval (like, y'all JUST approved me THIS morning, does this show how much I love and speed read through KMod!? haha)

You know how I love to hate men in books. This 100% scratched that itch for me. I hate Tatum so much it is almost all consuming. I am getting stuff done because I am driven by hate for this fictional man.
This author always writes books that stir motivation in me.
Not to be dramatic but I would cover up a crime for Kiersten Modglin.
I loved the narration too. What a wonderful experience.
Also trigger warning for some rapey stuff.

I have been shaken by the twists!
K.Mod's latest audio offering is a banger. The audio is usually released a month or two after the Kindle book so it's taken me a while to get a chance to review one. I really loved the narrators of this book.
Celine has a good marriage and two happy kids so when Tate vanishes into thin air, she can't imagine why. That's better than the first alternative though.. initially they found Tate's crashed car and a body they thought belonged to him in it. Upon identification, Celine is relieved and also baffled to find out that the body in the car isn't Tate's. Who could it be?
The answers will take us all the way back to Tate's youth and his tight friend group in college. Something happened back then to make them all go on different paths and it seems like whatever that event was has caught up to all of them but the breadcrumbs to this mystery are scarce.
Is there time to save Tate or is he a victim of a past that's come back for blood?

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ .5 stars! Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC! Celine and Tate are married and have 2 boys. One day, Celine receives a phone call from the police that Tate has been killed in a car accident and she needs to go to the police station for more information.
While she’s there, the officer shows her a picture of Tate’s body, but the only problem is that it isn’t Tate. This person has the same tattoo and Tate and he was driving Tate’s car at the time of the accident.
Celine is determined to find out what happened to her husband and she hopes that he’s still alive. While she is researching and trying to find out who was killed and if Tate is still alive, she finds out things that she didn’t expect. Who is Tate and what has he done? This was a really good psychological thriller and I didn’t see the ending coming. Definitely recommend!

I LOVE a good Kiersten Modglin book and this one did NOT disappoint!! The Guilty One is a domestic thriller that truly had me begging for more. Just as one plot twist got ironed out, a new one popped up. This is a fast paced, keep you on your toes book and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Audiobook was great.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this arc in return for my honest review.

This is the story of Celine and Tate. Celine is notified by authorities that her beloved husband was killed in a car accident. They asked her to come down to HQ to identify him. When she does, she realizes that this is not her husband. She then delves into the husband's past and with every clue, this story gets wilder. There are several twists and turns in the story and kept me guessing. There is a "mother of a twist" that pops up at the end that I never saw coming. The narration was well done.

This was fast paced and addictive! It started with a bang and never slowed down. I couldn’t stop listening and loved every second.

Wow! And also, what the heck?! I have read several of Kiersten's books and I saw a blurb where she said this was her darkest novel yet and I just had to read it. I absolutely loved this one, so I guess I am a fan of dark, mystery/thrillers. This one is pretty short and you will fly through it just to see what is going on. Suspenseful, thrilling, twisty and a bit sadistic. That epilogue was terrific. Definitely recommend.
The audiobook narrators did a wonderful job! Kudos to Mia Hutchinson-Shaw; Chad Ackerman; Evan Sibley; Melissa Kay Benson
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for access to the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a wild and suspenseful thriller book. The author has a great way of writing and telling a story! This book totally sucked me in from the start and I really enjoyed it! It’s a great deep mysterious story that I was trying to figure out, but there’s lots of secrets and deception tossed all around. The book started out one way and then flipped me in a different direction! I enjoyed the flashbacks, which gave the backstory of the characters. I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrators did an excellent job in telling the story too!
Thank you to NetGalley for an audio copy of this great book!

Super quick read, not my favourate but it will not stop me from reading her other books.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC .
