I love a quick Mogdlin thriller! This multiple POV, multiple timeline mystery is addictive
When Celine’s husband is found dead she rushes to go ID him. But when she arrives, she realizes it’s not him and he’s nowhere to be found
The cops are… well cops, so Celine investigates on her own, discovering a past she had no idea existed
I didn’t love Celine to be honest - she was a bit of a wet floundering fish - she clearly has never read a thriller and couldn’t work anything out on her own - luckily she was spoon fed
Alternating chapters come from Tate, days before his disappearance - juicy - he has some cajones and the flashbacks were shocking and dark and it was like a car crash - impossible to turn away from the nasty
The twist is twisty, the resolve super satisfying and this is easily my top read of the month so far
I listened to the audiobook which was well narrated. The last couple of hours should definitely come with trigger warnings (rape, abuse) and I may have gasped out loud a few times in Starbucks!
A finished this in a day and wowwee what a reveal! If you can handle the TWs run to get this, cause it’s a wild ride
Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for access to this audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨ some trigger issue with abuse ‼️‼️
✨ murder mystery
✨psychological drama
✨ multiple pov’s
✨ mainly focus on çeline. She had a lovely job, a family a house and husband. But what happen is she got a phone call that her husband is dead!?
Upon seeing the face, the reality hits her that the guy wasn’t her husband but similar? With a tattoo and same feature? What is happening?
Her husband is missing and lots of secrets was about to unveil.
✨ First time reading a book to this author and wow she did well. I love how the two timelines between Tate and çeline mixed together without any confusion.
The end was not expected at all,it was different and well done for it.
✨ the only thing that lost a point is quite slow paced on the first chapter, even though I’m hooked from the middle pages to the last .. the first few parts are draggy but then it was well worth the read:)
Thankyou @dreamscape media for the opportunity to listen to this arc for a honest review .

I’ve been really enjoying these shorter stories from Kiersten Modglin, who is a new to me author this year. The Guilty One is a twisty and dark domestic thriller which was fast thriller which kept me guessing, right until the end!
While short, this story packed quite to punch, and some of the flashbacks were pretty disturbing, creating a chilling atmosphere. The cast narration was wonderful, making it easier to follow the flashbacks and multiple POVs. I’d recommend for anyone looking for a gripping, twisty, tense and thrilling listen.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this audiobook. Opinions expressed are my own.

Kiersten Modglin does it again! Run, don’t walk, to get your hands on this one! Or just, you know, tap on over to Audible.😂
Premise - Celine gets the call no wife ever wants to receive: her husband has been in a fatal car accident. But when she goes to identify the body, she’s surprised to find that the man in her husband’s car, sporting her husband’s tattoo, is not her husband. Where is he? Why is this stranger in his car? And why are more bodies dropping?
This was excellently paced, super engaging, and all around a seat gripper. Modglin is incredibly talented, both in crafting a great story and telling it in a very palatable way. I can’t wait for her next!
I listened to the audiobook, narrated by
Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley, and Melissa Kay Benson. This full cast audiobook is better than a movie, I highly recommend enjoying the book in audio form! The readers are all so talented, so enjoyable to listen to, and add extra depth to the characters without taking too much liberty with the text. Delightful!
Thanks, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Guilty One, an audio arc written by Kiersten Modglin who can write and publish a book faster than I can wash, dry and put away laundry, is a solid domestic thriller.
Just so we are clear - many folks sign up for arcs and feel compelled to only leave good reviews. I am not that person.
Additionally, Modglin has successfully managed her social media accounts and created a super cult of fans who call themselves KMods and only give 5 star reviews. I am not that person.
So when I tell you this book is worth a read, please know it's said with truth. From me.
The audio was especially good because instead of one narrator voicing every character, Dreamscape has four talented voices at the helm making the listeners job even easier. It is always clear which character is speaking and no effort is required to discern if perspective has changed in the first few words.
The plot has flashbacks, multiple characters, a mystery in the past and another in the present. Some of the characters were not as interesting, but quickly the timeline would change, and that drove the story.
The Guilty One is your typical 6.5 hour Modglin (hence the ability to write and get books out the door), and it was a nice diversion on this lovely summer day.

A woman gets a call from the police informing her that her husband has been involved in a fatal accident. The only problem? It’s not actually him. Where is her husband? How did it come to this?
This was a quick, easy listen and overall was quite enjoyable. I was hooked immediately and the plot thickened with each twist and turn it took, and my god were there many.
I was entrenched by the switch between past and present, hungry for more and more details as I walked alongside the FMC to find out exactly what was going on. I was a bit disgusted by the MMC in his POV chapters, which I believe was the point of it, but it did catch me a bit off guard.
I have two main problems with this story. The first is that the FMC mostly felt like a plot device rather than a fully formed character. Things were happening to her, and around her, but she felt a bit flat to me.
The second is that it wrapped up far too easily. It was like once the main mystery was exposed, it went straight to a conclusion that lacked in flushing it out in a way that would be not just satisfying, but necessary. Things too easily smoothed over, forgiven, and rushed away from.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then this is perfect for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen early.

“The guilty one” is a fast paced, dark themed thriller.
The book immediately starts off with a bang when Celine receives a phone call informing her that her husband has been in a car incident he did not survive.
When she is asked to identify his body she is flooded with relief as she realizes the man isn’t her husband. But who is he, why was he driving her husbands car and why did he have her husbands phone and wallet on him?
This book is very twisty and i definitely had no idea where it was going at any point. The twists definitely shocked me and made for an Interesting read.
There are some dark graphic scenes (SA, blackmail and violent death) so please check for your triggers. I am slowly catching up on books by this author and this is definitely the most disturbing scene/s ive found in her books so far.
The epilogue added a nice touch and brought things full. Circle for me. I love it when a character makes zero apologies for their choices 😂
The audiobook is narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley & Melissa Kay Benson. They each did a great job of bringing the characters, personalities and plot to life.

Quick Summary: A riveting kaleidoscope of darkness
My Review: The Guilty One by Kiersten Modglin is mystery/thriller set to be released in September 2024.
About the Book: With the presumed death of her husband, Celine Thompson's life is forever changed. Everything she thought she knew about the man she was married to seems to be a lie. Can dead men speak from the grave?
About the Narration: This novel was narrated by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley, and Melissa Kay Benson. From start to finish, this team of narrators utterly held my attention.
My Final Say: What a disturbing story. I was like a deer in headlights; I could not stop listening. I had my suspicions about the who, the what, and the why, but I could not have predicted what was revealed. That was insane!
Other: Readers who prefer reading/listening to chilling stories with a twist should definitely go for this one. Be aware that there are a number of triggers in this book. Please refer to any author/publisher notes.

Fans of The Last Thing He Told Me will like this. A good classic mystery with pretty low stakes, an easy listen with dual narration. The pacing and plot were there, and personally I wasn’t able to guess where it was going.

The Guilty One is the epitome of the perfect popcorn thriller. It was so fast paced, entirely addictive and absolutely impossible to put down. This is a one sitting bingeable read that will have you hooked from the first page. The way this book was set in the past and present, won't go into details, but the back and forth truly made me flip those pages so fast. The short snippy chapters that end in cliffhangers were truly perfect. This is one of Modglin’s darker thrillers, there's some pretty dark stuff that happens, but I'm here for it all!
There is honestly not much I can say to not spoil anything. Seriously you will not be able to guess anything that happens, she completely blindsided me, my jaw dropped to the floor as the twists kept being revealed. My mind was blown 🤯 Really loved it !
🎧 The narration by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley & Melissa Kay Benson was really great. I love a full cast and they truly brought this sinister thriller to life. I was absolutely engrossed in their performance.
✨️Thank you to @netgalley, @dreamscapemedia & @kierstenmodglin for my gifted ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Celine is relieved when she confirms that the body of the man involved in a fatal car accident is not her husband, Tate. But it was Tate's car. And he is now missing. And that brings a whole new lot of questions.
This was such a fun domestic thriller! Told in dual POV and timeline, Celine after the accident and Tate in the days leading up to the accident and earlier on in his past. The narrator of the audio book did a great job, each POV was easily distinctable. This was a wild ride, a very quick read (just over 200 pages), a bit over the top, but highly enjoyable!
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is exceptionally written as always.By this author. It will have you guessing and believing you know exactly what happened. But you would definitely be wrong, Lots of twists and a creative ending. If you like psychological thrillers, you'll love this one.

This book kept me up all night because I didn’t want to miss a thing. All the years of being married Celine had no idea who she was really married to and the lengths that people went through to keep it all hidden. A page turner at its best.

This was a super quick read that kept me hooked the entire time. Celine finds out her husband is dead in the first chapter, and then just a few pages later she goes to ID the body and finds out it isn't him.
This reminded me of a Freida McFadden book in that even though I had it figured out pretty early on and some of it was kind of ridiculous, I couldn't put it down.
If you read a lot of thrillers, you'll probably be able to figure out what's going on pretty easily, but I still enjoyed the book itself.
