This book is about a husband and wife, Mary and Cal, living in the Scottish highlands. They live a very secluded, isolated life, Mary is the stay at home wife, who does all the household chores and makes sure her husband Cal is taken care of. Cal goes to work everyday and expects a homemade dinner on the table every night. Mary soon finds out that she is not the first woman who has lived under this roof. This book is full of suspense and is a quick page-turner!

I was hooked from page one of this book and damn near almost finished it in one sitting. I am a big Outlander fan, so when I saw this book advertising a husband and wife living alone in the Scottish highlands, I said, "Sold!". But sadly for Mary, she is not out here living her Outlander fantasies, she is a hostage in every woman's worst nightmare.

I truly enjoyed this book, I will definitely be recommending it to anyone looking for a quick suspenseful read!

Mary is living a strange trad wife kind of life in a remote cabin. Only it's not by choice. Her husband is policing her and she's living in fear, totally isolated from society.

This book reminded me of Room. It's a twisted story that's grimly compelling with some painful to read domestic violence and a huge amount of coercive control.

The plot has the odd slack moment but there are unexpected twists and turns. Becca Day cranks up the atmosphere in her writing to make this a creepy and at times, uncomfortable read.

When I downloaded this book I thought it would be this time consuming slow burn. And damn was I wrong. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. At some point I didn't know which was up. I just kept reading.

This book had me glued from the start,I loved the Scottish highland setting with a cabin and creepy barn! I am a big fan of the author since discovering her books last summer. This would make an excellent audio book with the right narrator too! I read this in under two days and stayed up finishing it as I wanted to know what happened next and is perfect for thriller fans. I did notice a few typos but as it's an arc I didn't take it off the rating as it deserves 5 stars from me.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.

This story had me from the start! Initially everything seems perfect but as you continue to read you realise the horrors that are taking place.
You get to know the characters, I definitely got emotionally attached to some, and what some of them went through really matters to you.
It's a very creepy thriller, one to keep you involved right up to the end, and it will certainly be on your mind long after you finish. I had to remind myself that least for this story, the events aren't real.
The book explores the dark themes of manipulation, gaslighting, controlling and toxic relationships, emotional and physical abuse, and mother-child relationships. The narrative delves into the depths of the human psyche, and it isn't a pretty sight. I was really able to get into the mindset of each character.
Overall, it was a dark and creepy read but definitely one for the TBR pile.

A cabin set in isolation in the Scottish Highlands is home to Mary and Cal. Mary is the perfect housewife, beautifully presented, dotes on her husband, cabin is spotless, garden immaculate and cooking superb. Whilst Mary is the epitome of a fifties homemaker, sadly Cal lives by double standards to ensure that his wife is always at his beck and call.

I really enjoyed this book, fast paced with a very chilling plot. Full of suspense and intrigue, it quickly became a page turner. Some of the repetition needed editing out, but apart from that a good one and I’d definitely recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and Embla Books.

This book sounded so interesting. I was excited to get an ARC! This book got pretty creepy and uncomfortable and quick. I think it would have been nice if trigger warnings had been listed. Cal was an absolute piece of crap. I couldn’t stand him at all!! I just wanted ”Mary” to safely get away from him. I truly couldn’t wait for this book to be over. It gave me the worst anxiety. The ending of the book was interesting but I don’t think I’d read this again. I just didn’t find it as interesting as I’d hoped it would be. Thank you NetGalley, Becca and Embla Books for the ARC!

Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is the 23rd Oct. This book was intense and fast-paced that kept me gripped all the way through with it’’s engrossing characters. My favourite character was Mary as throughout the book I was rooting for her as the story unfolded. I disliked Cal a lot!

The book explores manipulation, emotional and physical abuse to everything else in between! I liked this authors writing style which made it an engaging and an easy read.

I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a suspenseful thriller!

Deep in the woods, you can hide more than secrets... Every day, in a remote cabin hidden deep in the woods in the Scottish Highlands, Mary wakes up before dawn to make breakfast from scratch. She tends the garden and feeds the animals. Every night, Mary makes sure she has dinner on the table for when her husband Cal gets home from work! Good book!! This book had everything!! It had great suspense, mystery, murder, intriguing, kidnapping, and some really crazy twists and turns! The story was very interesting and had me glued to my kindle! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

"The Woman in the Cabin" by Becca Day is an intense and fast-paced thriller that keeps the adrenaline flowing. I was intrigued by the premise and decided to give it a shot - WOW, am I glad I did! Day does a great job weaving a captivating story and creating interesting, believable characters I could care about (most of them, anyway).

Mary lives in an isolated cabin in the Scottish Highlands with her husband, Cal, a tree surgeon. She never leaves the place and tries to be the "perfect wife" for him. According to Cal, the "perfect wife" is one who keeps the house clean and orderly, has a warm meal waiting on the table, and welcomes him home with a warm smile and a pretty dress.

At first, all seems ideal. Mary follows his rules to the letter and appears satisfied with her lot, living as a housewife from the fifties. But it quickly becomes clear to the reader that something is off in this relationship. The plot thickens when Mary discovers she wasn't the first wife, and she may not be the last...

I LOVED the book and was glued to the story right up to the very last page. You get to know the characters, and what some of them went through really matters to you. Though the theme may not be entirely original, the execution is smooth and absorbing. Compelling characters, an engrossing plot, and polished execution make this a great read.

The book is written primarily from Mary's perspective, with two other women's points of view and a brief passage from Cal's perspective. At first, I thought Mary was naive for putting herself in this situation. But as the plot unfolded, I grew to respect her courage and determination, even though she acted foolishly at times, and I found myself rooting for her. I strongly disliked Cal and found him contemptible.

The more I learned about the plot, the more suspenseful it became. The use of foreshadowing was well done, setting the mood and adding dramatic tension to the story. The creepy atmosphere gets into the reader's head and holds them in rapture, gradually developing into nerve-wracking tension.

The book explores themes of manipulation, gaslighting, controlling and toxic relationships, emotional and physical abuse, and mother-child relationships. The narrative delves into the depths of the human psyche, and it isn't a pretty sight. I was really able to get into the mindset of each character and empathize with some.

Overall, I was impressed with the story. The author's writing technique makes the book an engaging read. It's a fast-paced book with plot twists that keep the reader on their toes, eager to see what comes next. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspense novel. You’re pushed to keep turning pages (or swiping your finger) until the very end. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

* Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for the opportunity to read this arc. All opinions are my own.

I'm now coming to rely on Day for fast paced one sit reads.
This one has one of my favourite genres, someone held against their will.
It has an air of menace throughout, the threatened violence in every scene.
Some pretty mad twists, but actually not so made they don't make sense.
This book was very entertaining. (Let's not dwell on the creepy things I find entertaining!)
I'd recommend Day if you just want to loose a few hours of your day.
