Wowza! D.K. Hood has crafted an addictive, gripping, atmospheric, pulse pounding and thrilling book which had me turning the pages while my pulse pounded! I was instantly drawn into the plot, on the edge of my seat, fingers crossed and feeling the chill in the air! I have not read this entire series but have loved the books in the series that I have read. One thing that D.K. Hood excels at is writing books in a series which work perfectly as stand-alone novels.

I love books that take place in cold snowy places. I also love books that have a 'trapped' feeling. Their Frozen Bones: An edge-of-your-seat crime thriller with a jaw-dropping twist, fits that criteria beautifully! Black Rock Falls is serial killer central and in Their Frozen Bones: An edge-of-your-seat crime thriller with a jaw-dropping twist one is luring and killing women, leaving behind their frozen bodies.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy, David Kane, have been alerted that a plane has crashed in the snow covered mountains around Black Rock Falls carrying the daughter of Wolfe, who is one of their own. As the desperate search is underway, the bodies of the murdered women are found! Making things more tense, when they find the plane that went down, Julie is missing!!!!!

Whew! This book was full of tension, suspense, danger, and dread. Questions swirled through my mind as the snow swirled through the air. I loved the atmosphere in this book. I could almost feel the cold in the air, while imagining the crunch of the frozen snow under their feet. This book kept me on my toes, turning the pages and loving every second of it.

This proved to be an extremely fast and thrilling read. I did my best super sleuthing while reading, trying to determine whodunit. I don't always get it right but in this book, I nailed it! I enjoyed the twists, revelations, suspense, mounting danger, and banter between the characters.

D.K. Hood has left me a very happy reader once again! I love her writing, her characters, and the engrossing plots she writes. I can't wait to read what she writes next!

Kane and Alton at their best. A desperate search during some pretty nasty and cold weather. A serial killer and a missing daughter, also a new character. Great stuff.

When a small plane crashes in the mountains on the outskirts of Black Rock Falls during a blizzard it's all hands on deck for the sheriff's department and search and rescue teams. For Sheriff Alton and her team it's even more pressing that the location of the wreck is found as one of the passengers on board is Julia Wolfe, daughter of the ME Shane. The rescue effort is hampered by continuous blizzards and avalanches in the area and further complicated by evidence that a serial killer is at work in the mountains and forests.

Another fantastic instalment in the Alton & Kane series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Title: Their Frozen Bones
Author: D. K. Hood
Series: Detectives Alton and Kane #23
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Crime Thriller
Pub Date: October 1, 2024
My Rating: 3.6 Stars
Pages: 259
Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband deputy, David Kane, got a report of a plane crashing into the mountains that surround Black Rock Falls. Their immediate fear it that it is the plane their friend’s teenage daughter, Julie, was on that flight.
Julie was like a little sister to Jenna so she is going to do everything she can to find what happened.

They search the remote area and find the crash and the bodies of three young girls although not Julie they are also blondes like Julie only their hair has been cut - Needless to say, some really nasty things going on.
The ‘Prologue’ gives us a hint of how things get started with the beautiful girls getting themselves into bad situation. A handsome man offers a romantic weekend at the Glacial Heights Ski Resort. Only he has something else in mind.

Jenna and husband Dave have an adopted son Tauri whom we are introduced to in early stories. We find out that Jenna is pregnant and experiencing morning sickness but her love for Julie is not going to stop because of it. The story is indeed one that I did not want to put down and I read in one sitting.

In the “A Letter from D.K. Hood, she tells us that she has a love of writing about winter and snow.
This brought a smile to my face. I have been living in Southern California over half my life but I grew up in the east and loved snow. So although this was ‘some’ adventure and there was a blizzard, I did enjoy that it was an adventure in the snow.

I have read the Agent Beth Katz series and really enjoyed them.
I got on the Alton and Kane series later with "A Song for the Dead" Book #21
I was pleased that I wasn’t all that lost by getting on board so late in this series.

A Big Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 1, 2024.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Their Frozen Bones", the latest book in D.K. Hood's 'Detectives Kane and Alton' series.
Here we are, book 23 and still going strong. As is the suspense in this newest instalment. It's closing in on Christmas in Black Rock Falls, and the weather and natural phenomena are wreaking havoc with everyone. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are concerned with the weather getting worse and worse, and the propensity for killers to take advantage. After all, as many are heard to remark, this is Serial Killer Central - come rain or come shine.
Julie Wolfe, daughter of Medical Examiner, and close friend to both Jenna and Dave, Shane Wolfe is on her way back to Black Rock Falls when the small plane she's in is downed by the sudden, fierce storm. Not knowing if she has survived, it's all hands on deck to the crash site; but Julie's nowhere to be found, along with her luggage and some supplies from the plane. All of the other passengers and pilot are deceased. But where is Julie? The department will have to pull out all the stops to search under terribly adverse conditions, including avalanches set off by earth tremors.
In the course of the search, the Sheriff and Deputy come upon three dead women, duct taped to trees and savagely murdered. Is there another serial killer loose in the area? And it looks like there might be one more woman missing, who they fear might be the next victim.
The suspense never lets up all through the twin investigations into Julie's disappearance and the women (unidentified through most of the book) who were killed.
Highly recommended. Could work as a standalone read, but I'd recommend you read the entire series. You won't be disappointed.

Many thanks for NetGalley and D.K. Hood for this ARC in exchange my review.

Certainly! This book is an edge-of-your-seat crime thriller with a jaw-dropping twist. I couldn't put it down. The suspense builds, and the stakes are high. I was so addictive to the plot and there was unexpected twists out of blue. If you enjoy crime thrillers, this one is definitely worth a read! It is a compelling read that I can confidently recommend to you. Actually, you may found there is the mix of strong character development, an engaging plot. I am hooked from start to finish. As I closed the book, I felt a sense of completion, yet also a lingering anticipation for what the author might conjure up next. I’m eagerly awaiting my next adventure in the pages of this series.

Grips like a vice and twists like a rollercoaster. Impossibly clever. Impossible to put down!
It was really hard for me to put this book away. I pulled an all-nighter to finish reading it. The numerous plots and suspense left me, chapter by chapter I read with bated breath!

This was soooo good, I went back to read book 12.5 immediately - I needed more D.K. Hood!

There's a blizzard in town that brings down a small plane with 6 souls on board, amongst them is the daughter of key character Wolfe in this (and interconnected Beth Katz series), Julie.  She is rescued and taken to a cabin with a stranger.  *Also, I was sleeping in a cabin alone for a family holiday when I read this and would not suggest this if you're a sook like me LOL.

While Kane and Alton and their teams are tracking the plane crash site to try to find Julie, multiple women's bodies are found frozen. Another serial killer is about.

This is extremely suspenseful, literally couldn't put it down, read it quicker than most books lately and I'd say some good red herrings but nothing too shocking and I don't really know what locked room mystery is, but if I had to guess the Julie aspect may be it. Loads of good action to finish this one off, but not too much which was refreshing.

I haven't read this entire series, I think Debra and I started at about book 21 or 22 and I am just loving the series more and more. I don't feel as if I'm missing anything having not started at the start.

So highly recommend this!! I just wish it was a bit longer.

Many thanks to Debra for the latest D.K. Hood buddy read, always a joy to discuss. Be sure to check out her fantastic review of this (and other books).

Thanks also to NetGalley, the publisher and author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review

Back to BlackRock Falls for the 23 book in the Kane/Alton series, where a plane crashes in the hills and is carrying one of Wolfe's daughters. When she is discovered missing from the crash and several bodies are found tied to trees, the team hits high gear in trying to solve these mysteries.

I love seeing where the characters are going in their relationships, and I loved the new twist with a new entity in town. I am enjoying getting more perspective on the Wolfe daughters as they grow up and are seemingly becoming more and more part of the team.

This book captures your attention quickly and keeps you glued right til the end. It remains a fast paced, quick read. You will not want to put the book down. Can't wait for the next book to come out.

Thank you to NetGalley, D.K Hood and BookOuture for the ARC.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane are at it again in Serial Killer Central, Montana. It's a wild ride, and one the reader will thoroughly enjoy! Their close friend and medical examiner, Dr. Wolfe, and his family are featured front-and-center in Their Frozen Bones. Dr. Wolfe's daughter, Julie, is flying back to Montana when a blizzard hits and the plane crashes. Through the blinding snow, the team rushes to the site, and on their way, they find women's bodies bound to trees. Julie is the priority so they mark the trees and focus on Julie. When they arrive to the crash site, there are many burned bodies from the crash, but no Julie. Dr. Wolfe has taught his daughters well on how to survive in the wilderness. They all believe Julie must have been rescued, but where is she? The author does a fabulous job describing the effects of the blizzard, tremors, as well as the angst that the team has not being able to locate Julie. In addition, they're also working on finding the person who is killing women in the forest. As always, D.K. Hood knocks it out of the ballpark with this series. A fabulous read. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Another serial killer takes up his twisted way in Black Rock Falls. How does this Author keep writing such fantastic stories? Waiting with bated breath for the next one. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

This has got to be the most atmospheric, chilling book in this series so far! The writing was so graphic and descriptive that when I finally emerged, blinking into the daylight, after a night of being immersed in this terrifying world if murder and and malevolence, I couldn't understand why I wasn't surrounded by snowdrifts! The chills still running up and down my spine weren't diminished by the bright sunshine outside as the remnants of this blistering story clung to me like the icicles hanging from the frozen corpses tied to the trees. Being Black Rock Falls, we have come to expect grizzly murders but throw a plane crash into the mix -especially one carrying Julie, Wolfe's daughter -a snowstorm beyond anything seen before and a killer on the loose and you have all the ingredients of your worst nightmare! Brilliant, fast paced writing as always and with the wonderful addition of an intriguing and engaging new character in Jonnie Raven and his K-9 Ben ( I look forward to seeing more of them!) another sure fire winner for D.K Hood

Wow I loved this book it was a real page turner. I’m a big DK Hood fan so was excited to read this. It did not disappoint, After 22 books you would think that this series would get stale but no, book 23 was fantastic. I liked how there were two cases running side by side, it really kept me guessing.

During a snow storm a plane goes down with a much loved member of the team on board. Can this person be saved before the cold or injuries get to them. Whilst searching for the downed plane they come across a body. Is there another serial killer in town or is this a body from the plane crash? They are severely hampered by the storm, will they make it in time?

This book can certainly be read as a stand alone as each story is different but I would recommend reading from book one as it’s interesting to see how the dynamics and relationships of the team develop. Reading one of these books feels like greeting old friends, the characters are just lovely. I couldn’t put this one down I really enjoyed it the plot was great. Awesome piece of writing by DK Hood. Highly recommend, I would definitely buy this book to gift.

This series has a great setting and fantastic characters, and this book has a great plot. The story jumps around, but there's no problem following, and the book can be read as a stand-alone.

Our 23rd trip to serial killer central is an absolute blast!! It is cold, snow constantly falling and blocking roads and pathways in the woods. Which is not helpful when a plane has crashed with the daughter of one of their own on board, and a serial killer leaving the naked bodies of women tied to trees in the woods. Always so much happening in Black Rock Falls.

Another page turning, fast paced crime thriller that I stayed up well into the night to finish. I love this team and their stories just keep getting better, after 23 books so many series get old and tired but not this one. The author keeps you guessing right until the end. I really enjoyed having a different character in the middle of the action this time.

Thanks so much to Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. So early once again. Publishes on October 1st.

A plane crashes with Wolfe's daughter aboard. A search is set up for the plane, and on the way, the team finds nude frozen bodies tied to trees.
Jenna is pregnant, but still has to do her job in Black Rock Falls, which is a serial killer magnet area.

Another absolutely gripping addition to the series. At least the murders were not gory, but they were painful deaths.
I just can't believe how stupid the killer was...... no! I won't give the game away!

I seriously could not put this book down, except I had to get some sleep!

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the digital copy.

This the first book I had read in the series but it was fine as a stand-alone. I liked the back stories of the characters which enriched my overall perception.
Plenty of ups and downs and twists and turns in abundance to keep me guessing. Look forward to the next instalment. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

When a plane crashes in the forest Sheriff Jenna Alton and deputy sheriff Dave Kane as well as deputies Rio and Rawley, medical examiner Wolfe and his daughter Emily race to the scene. Wolfe’s daughter Julie was onboard, and when they get there she is gone without trace. With the snow coming down heavily, avalanches block the trails and they struggle to even begin to search. They also come across young woman found to trees and frozen to death.

This one almost had to go in the freezer (IYKYK). Full disclaimer this is probably my favourite book series ever. I have been there from the first book, and I feel like I know Jenna and Kane. Jenna’s pregnancy is complicating things with Kane being over protective-exactly as I thought at the end of the last book. These characters are so well written that they are fully real to me. The suspense in this book had me on the edge of my seat. I read to late at night and picked it up as soon as I opened my eyes! I couldn’t put it down. Was Julie in danger or was Raven a good guy. I needed to know asap! As always I finished this too quickly., and as always I’m desperate to read the next one. The potential threat towards the end was upsetting. Only because I am rooting for Jenna and Kane to have their happy ending!

100% recommend. This could be read standalone as backstories are always complete.
