This is book two of a series that you most definitely need to read book one to understand what is happening. If you are starting with this book, stop and pick up book 1. I want to start by saying I enjoyed the narration and thought it was done very well
The story itself i would say should not necessarily be categorized as romance or romantasy. I felt the romance was a subplot and since they do not end up together it is not a HEA. The plot itself was very interesting. I enjoyed the FMC and found her character development to be fascinating. We as an audience we're getting to discover what kind of creature she actually was along with her and that was enjoyable. I will say I think there were too many creatures and characters to try to and keep up with but overall I enjoyed this book.
Thank you for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. I loved this as much as the first book in the series. The story flows on from book 1 but you still get little reminders of what happened which I liked as there’s lots of different information to remember about the magic system and the qualities of different supernatural beings. The story progressed really nicely and in the same way as book 1 you get lots of resolutions whilst still progressing in the storyline and discovering new mysteries. I still love the characters as much as I did in book 1 and love the development they get in this book and how each character has their own story which is slowly explored throughout. I would love to continue with this series to find out what happens to different characters and how the story will stretch even further. I flew through this just as much as I did the first one and would definitely recommend this series.
So let me start by saying that this is book #2 of a series. I did not realize that when I requested it (my fault!)…
Also, let me say that this was a bit out of my comfort zone, but looked interesting!
And, that it was! But I wish I had read book #1 as I feel like I’m missing a lot…
Nemain is a shape-shifter, warrior, fierce being, and quite a character! She has defended herself and her friends over and over, and continues to do so!
So, when a young boy wanders into an unknown area and then disappears, she is worried that harm will come to him. And the more she finds out about him, the more she realizes that she MUST help him!
And so the mission begins.
We watch as she and her clan…Fae, vampires, werewolves, dragons..etc,etc…go off to find and save the boy! Even if it means risking her life!
And the plot seems to thicken with each and every chapter…
Lots of action. Lots of characters. Lots of mouth hanging open moments as some shape shift into something else to fight…
Again, not my normal genre, but I did enjoy this one!
Hoping I can find book #1 and the ones to follow to see what I missed!
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 4!

A Shift in Fate is the second book in the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the first book, A Shift in Shadows. I don't think this book lives up to the first one, which was more action-packed. In the sequel we get to know our protagonist better and explore more of her unexplained powers and heritage. I liked learning more about her, but missed more action and relationship developement. I do however recognise that this is building up to more exciting revelations and action in the next book. I'm sure to read the third book as well to see how the story unfurls futher.
I recently listened to *A Shift in Fate* by Maddox Grey without having read the first book in the *Lost Legacies* series. While I could follow the plot and enjoy the action, I did feel that some of the story's depth was lost without the context from the first installment. That said, Krys Janae’s narration was phenomenal. Her voice reminded me of Julia Whelan—rich, engaging, and perfectly tuned to the emotional tone of the story.
Krys Janae's ability to convey the complexities of the characters, especially Cora, brought the narrative to life in a way that kept me fully immersed, even without all the background. She has a talent for drawing listeners into the world and making every moment feel impactful.
Overall, *A Shift in Fate* was an exciting experience, and Krys Janae’s performance truly elevated it. I’d recommend starting with the first book for the full experience, but this audiobook still stands strong on its own, thanks in large part to the exceptional narration.
