Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Two timelines and an old 'big house' - my cup of tea I thought. Sadly not - two pairs of characters, at odds with each other. One present day with the big house and neighbouring property used as art centres, visitors and so no with the other in 1911 with the two families living in their times but becoming apprehensive about the political situation and fears of war. The house is haunted of course. However, the two sets of characters are so similar and behave in so similar fashions that either period could be the current one. It was a well-written story but just not for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
What a captivating addition to Kirsty Ferry's Cornish series! It mixes time travel, romance, and supernatural elements in a unique and interesting way. You don't have to read the other books first, but knowing the background and getting to know the characters better could make the whole experience a bit more enjoyable.
Two stories directly linked, one in 1911 the other present day. Unfortunately both stories followed the same path with a couple of ghosts thrown in. You knew what was going to happen. Not my cup of tea.
Mirrors of the Past is another time-slip novel in Kirsty Ferry’s Cornish series, it is not required to read the other novels in the series before this one, though you may want to,
Tegan Burton has come to Pencradoc house to take over her sister Merryn’s job while she is on maternity leave. Merryn has told Tegan that Pencradoc house is haunted but Tegan does not believe in the supernatural stories. Then strange things start to happen and Tegan starts to feel as though she is getting glimpses of the past. She finds herself working with an old nemesis Ryan. They had worked together years before and lets just say it was not a match made in heaven. Ryan will be assisting Tegan with the archives and throwing a recreation of a Midwinter ball from 1911.
In 1911 Viola Arthur meets Laurie Teague of Pencradoc Hall and is less than impressed. After a misunderstanding they decide that they dislike each other immensely, or do they? The two time-lines overlap with the two couples, are they really as disinterested in each other as they seem? Or is there a spark that could be lit?
I have enjoyed this series and was happy to read another installment of the Cornish series,
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher Joffebooks/Choc Lit and the author for the chance to read and review this ARC.
Another enjoyable book in this series. Good timeslip working well in both the historical and present times, Pencradoc is always an atmospheric setting and so fits in well with the storyline. I liked the characters of Tegan and Ryan and great to catch up with the ones from the earlier books so good lightheaded read.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this dual timeline story set in 1911 and the present.
We meet Teagan who has started a temporary post at Pancradoc House in place of her sister, who has gone on maternity leave.
When she is being advised of her role at the house, she is introduced to someone she never expected to see again. Ryan, they used to work together in Scotland, but never got on well together.
Ryan is working close by, at another building linked to Pancradoc, his job is to record what he finds going through the archives. But he will have to work with Teagan as she puts on a display as the information he comes across will help her.
When Teagan is working in the house, she feels like she’s in a different time period and people from that era are conversing with her.
When Ryan visits and helps her, he too feels the same.
I recommend this book.
This book is split between 1911 and presant day.
Teagan Burton has just started maternity cover for a year at Pencradoc house in cornwall covering for her sister merryn.
On her first day there she bumps into the last person she wanted to see and old collegue from a job in scotland were she used to workand never got on with Ryan.
Ryan works at Panradocs sister house recording its archives and will have to work with Teagan as he has lots of information she needs.
As Teagan begins working in the house she gets the feeling she living in a differant time and old inhabitants are talking to her.
Funnily enough as soon as Ryan starts helping Teagan he feels the same way.
Loved the time lapse in this book and are now looking forward to reading the books that came before this .
