Such a wonderful edition to our Chanukah books. My daughter loves these activities in general and then to bring in the Chanukah aspect -LOVE!
"Would you rather read Hanukkah books to the young children in your family or teach them how to play dreidel? Obviously this arthritic Bubbie would rather read to the kids then try to spin a dreidel. But this "Would You rather?" edition combines a Hanukkah book and a game. Most kids are familiar with the game. There are several sets of questions, each asking which of two actions the player would prefer. Some are a matter of personal preference, but others are choosing the lesser of two evils in the players opinion, such as would you rather climb a tree in mittens or fuzzy slippers. The fun is in the logic, or creativity of why the player chooses one answer over the other. Family members can compete to see just how funny they can get. I enjoyed reading a digital advanced copy of this book, but I am sure that it would make a great game to play at a Hanukkah party. Although classified as a middle grade book, this is really a game for the whole family.
fun and insightful I can't wait to do this book again with my family for Hanukkah. the questions are designed to bring out conversation. I did try out some of the questions with my kids and we had fun going through them.
I requested this book from NetGalley because it sounded like fun. Chanuka is my favourite festival - doughnuts, candles and singing, what's not to love?
The description:
Celebrate the holiday by lighting the candles, spinning the dreidel, eating latkes—and playing a hilarious Would You Rather? game! These challenging and lively questions provide hours of entertainment about the miracle of Hanukkah.
The contents of this book fit the description. It's a game, not really a learning game (although it could be used as one) just a fun game. The book starts by explaining the rules, and then goes into a series of very unserious questions, by favourite being 'would you rather have Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny for chanukka?'. I think there was a mention somewhere of cards, and that would also be a good presentation for this form of entertainment. It would also be dun, after using the book as a game, to play a couple of rounds where the participants wrote the questions. This game is not just for kids, I could imagine sitting around with my friends, the chanukka candles burning and us answering these questions and laughing and discussing.
My oldest son and I started reading this one day while waiting on a dr. appt. He was nervous and I thought maybe it would take his mind off things. We were hysterical and trying not to laugh too loud and bother people in the waiting room. Some of the choices are so bad we were like “ugh! How do we choose!” lol a very fun book and I’m looking forward to sharing it with my youngest as well.
This is going to be fun to share at religious school around Hanukkah.
The prompts have more than just fun ideas, they also get you thinking.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.

My family loves mad libs so this book of would you rather questions feels right up our alley. Add in some interpretive scoring and we might have night that ends in tears or laughing till we cry. My kids are fantastic at coming up with arguments on the fly so they will dig deep to tell you why they would prefer to bathe in a tub of sour cream or matzo ball soup with enthusiasm. Yes, that is an actual question.
This game will spark creative discussions and is geared toward 8 - 12 year olds so we might skip some of the bigger questions. It's one of those fun 1st night of Hanukkah gift that is not meant to be taken too seriously but to get you in the holiday spirit.
One of my kids is a Dr Frankenstein with laptops and desktops. I tell you this because it means that I could play the game with him and his kids in Cleveland while I sit at home in Milwaukee! It is a fun game and was easily adapted to long distance play. We have a weekly Zoom with my other kids/grands as well, so we're going to try for a larger group next! Good fun for all!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school, hospital, or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary uncorrected proof e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Zeitgeist | Z Kids / Penguin Random House via NetGalley. Thank you! Pub Date Oct 01, 2024
While this middle-grade book is clearly for the kids, adults will also have a good time answering the questions in this book a fun game of Would You Rather? The book begins with the rules for those new to the game. (Your kids will already know; Would You Rather? is a staple in elementary schools.) Enough questions for eight rounds of 20 questions each. Families can bring out this book year after year.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, Zeitgeist and Z Kids in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to get my review out before the holidays, so I gathered my grandkids to assist with this one. They love Would You Rather type games, so adding this was a natural, and fun, addition (edition!) to the holidays. I loved that it encompassed various ages, the youngest being 9 and the oldest "child" 13...the adults joined in also. Grab this for a fun time while you build traditions.
Thank you to Zeitgeist/Z Kids and Net Galley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
We couldn't wait until Hanukkah to start this one! My 7 year old has just gotten into Would You Rather and was excited to do a Hanukkah themed one. Everyone in the family had fun thinking about and answering questions.
Thank you, Z Kids, for the ARC.
This one is a fun interactive game-like adventure read for the young readers!
Play with the kids reading the “would you rather” plentiful quiz the book provides with!
Have fun!
This is a very fine edition of Would You Rather which is rather true to the holiday of Hanukkah. Lots of fun questions and debate and discussion are sure to follow and the book will keep the family busy for 8 crazy nights (as the comic would say). So, what's not to enjoy?
