The narration was good. I felt so many emotions. Set in a small Texas Town against the depression-era . I did feel that the vibe of this book was both grim and atmospheric. Jesse’s character is great. He is a veteran of war. The author has said something so beautiful that ‘if we don’t protect the ones we love, we are lost’
I thought the book was emotional, thought provoking, touching and dark. So many unthinkable things happens and secrets unveils with dangers and mystery. The inevitable web of lies, deceit, secrets and greed tangles Jesse but he must make a choice.
Many Thanks to Blackstone Publishing and Author.
I thought that the narrator's tone and accent were really appropriate and fitting to the setting and time period.
The book was very well written, and I felt that the story really gripped me from beginning to end. I don't read a lot of historical fiction, but this was a great one for fans of historical mysteries.
Hollow Out the Dark by James Wade made a fantastic Audiobook, the narration is fantastic. I loved the way the author writes about tough situations, I felt like I was there although it is a tough time/place to live in. The deep raspy voice of the narrator made this book even better. Amon Atkins and Jesse Cole are the main characters in the book and doing their best to keep things lawful in their town, but this book demonstrates that things aren't always about good vs bad or good vs evil, there can be some interpretations especially in Rural Texas during the Depression.
This historical crime novel (is Texas Gothic a genre?) is set in the piney woods of East Texas after World War I. Jesse Cole, is a vetren of WWI and Amon Atkins is the Texas Ranger that has been tasked to take down the bootlegging business. (Yes only one ranger, of course. One riot, one Ranger. )The story is adventureous, and the characters are all working through truamas (from war and generational)
This is my first time to read anything by James Wade, won’t be my last. I already called my dad and told him he needs to read this book.
Roger Clark wras the PERFECT choice to narrate this. Everything about him sounded like the time and place of the book.
