Thank You for the opportunity to listen to Smiley's People by John Le Carré.

I love John Le Carré's books but they are very sophisticated in many ways. In fact, I feel it is easier to listen to his books than to read.

So, I enjoyed this one. I love how the plot thickens and characters and occurrences are connected in all his books. This one is no different.

I would love to listen to all his books again as audiobooks.

So, go for it. Who doesn't like a well thought out and scripted spy story!

*A big thank-you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for a free audiobook in exchange for my honest review.*
A complicated plot, involving George and his arch enemy, Karla, whose dark silhuette can be sensed throughout the book despite appearing only at the end of it. As one can expect from JLC, the slow pace of the tale allows for getting to know characters' stories, and builds up the tension which cannot be achieved if the narration in hurried and with millions of fireworks.
What did I enjoy? Smiley's ways, as always, and Le Carre's descriptions of cold-blooded espionage with ordinary people involved, who, while wanting to generate some good, always pay the highest price.

Oops - I read the first Smiley Book and inadvertently jumped to number 7. It CAN be read stand alone but should not. I'll go back and pick up 2 through 6 and then give this a listen again. Despite my error, I very much enjoy George and Le Carre's masterful cold war plotting. Lots of fun and many great characters and scenarios. A lesson in how to at least try recruit a double agent. Lots of humor. VERY well narrated. A pleasure.

*4.5

John Le Carré’s books are my comfort books. This is not exception. I love it, as usual, and the narrator was really good.
I love Smiley so much, this is a perfect ending series.

This isn’t something I would usually read but I figured I would try the audiobook.

The narrator did a great job.
