I felt that Magic in the Air was supposed to be a mix of Practical Magic in the town of Gilmore Girl's Stars Hollow. Olivia has curated a life in the small town of Addersfield, Rhode Island with her son Daniel. She owns the town's bakery with her best friend, Jill and has been able to flourish as a witch not letting her Cebral Palsy bring her down. When Draven comes into town, Olivia has an instant connection to him, but she knows he is hiding something. Can Olivia determine Draven's secrets while possibly finding love?

I loved the first part of this book. A town of witches is the perfect scene for a fall romance. Olivia's character is strong and independent. Olivia has found a family that understands her, and I enjoyed her banter with her best friends Jill and Parker. The chemistry between Draven and Olivia in the beginning was spot on. Although Olivia had her suspicions about Draven, it was fun to read how her magic acted when Draven was around and how Olivia's character started to open up to the possibility of love after all that she had been through.

The biggest issue I had with this book was the amount of spice did not match the story. Don't get me wrong, I love a spicy book, but these characters seemed to go from 0 to 100 in no time at all. Spice became the majority of the story when I felt that the author could have toned it down and focused on the development and growth of the two main characters.

This book does open up the possibility of a second book and even with my issues with this book, I would be interested in reading the sequel if it ever came out.

Magic in the Air comes out September 17th.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Rising Action Publishing for the opportunity to review Magic in the Air. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Very cute, witchy rom-com. I loved the visible disability representation. I unfortunately don’t see a lot in books so it was great to see. I’m not for an instant love trope but this one is cute. Narrator was fantastic!

I received an arc from netgalley and the publisher.

Thank you Netgalley and dreamscape media for the free ALC.my opinions are being left voluntarily. This is my first book by the author and won't be my last. I appreciated the cp rep although I wish a bit more was mentioned about it. I loved the steam. I am jot a fan of miscommunication/ deception/ 3rd act breaknupbut this was handled quickly bur so unnecessary.

There are parts of this book that I love, like the town and a gloriously diverse FMC.

There are parts of this book that did not work for me: The insta-love and the MMC (honestly he is the freaking worst for most of the book).

It was a weird blend of cozy-esque and super spicy scenes, which was a little jarring to me.

Also, I wasn't the biggest fan of the narrator.

If this was run through an edit or two again, I think it could be really good.

Cute audiobook just in time for fall! Everything about this book feels like fall - the setting, the magic, the romance. I love the setting in RI which helps bring the cozy, Gilmore Girls, small-town vibes.

The Good: Single parent and disability representation! It was done in a way that flowed with, and did not detract or become, the main story. Romance had just the right amount of spice. I listened to this as an audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator.

The Not-as-Good: This book was written in third person which I do not personally love. Especially as I was listening to this as an audiobook, it made it a bit more confusing trying to figure out who's POV we were learning about. I also feel as if the romance needed to be a bit more fleshed out to be believable.

Overall, this was a fun listen and perfect for the transition from summer to fall!

Debut novel releasing September 17th, a perfect small town witchy read for spooky season!

I really enjoyed this audio book! Small town charm, with amazing friendships and Magic? Olivia is a bakery owner, where she puts some extra ✨ charms ✨ in her goodies! Shes a single mom and has sworn off love after a harsh breakup with an ex.

Draven comes into town following a lead of his mothers origin to the town. He has the get in, and get out approach but it definitely doesn’t go as planned.

Draven and Olivia have an insta draw to each other. I loved watching these two discover pieces of themselves together. There is open door and there may or may not be some fun spicy scenes 🤭 🎡! Don’t skip this one on your fall TBR!

This audio was so much fun, thank you @dreamscape_media , @authoraschuh for a chance to listen to this early in exchange of an honest review!

I love love love witchey romances and this was really great I really enjoyed our main characters, the found family and the vibes of the small town, the bakery the vibes were just so great a perfect fall read, but I feel like if this was a bit longer because in my opinion our characters got together way too early for my liking and if felt a bit lusty tbh but overall such a fun easy read.
Also I need parker's book asap!!!
Thank you to netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc!!!

The story was excellent. I loved having a Latina witch with cerebral palsy as our main character. She was such a cozy perspective to have. Now the MMC on the other hand, we have some problems buddy.

He comes into town with plans of revenge, but then meets Olivia and falls in love with her. He doesn’t know what to do!! If that part of the plot was a little better then it would be a full 5 stars but for the cozy vibes with all of the witches it gets a 4.

I enjoyed the experience of reading this book, but I will say - I couldn't stand the MMC. Minor spoilers ahead (but nothing you cannot figure out from the first 10% of the book).

I had a really hard time getting excited about a romance where one character is there to purposefully seek revenge on the most important thing to the other love interest. Any interaction between the main characters was a little spoiled for me because of this.

However, I think it was really cool to see a Mexican woman with a visible disability as the main character in a witchy rom com - I don't think I see a ton of that. I also loved her relationship with her son and the other witches in town. I loved the way that magic worked and the ritual performed. If I were to look at the book overall, it's probably a 4 star for me, but without the romance plot line, I think it would have been a 5.

Thank you to Rising Action and NetGalley for the ARC of Magic in the Air! I received an audio ARC and I think the audio narration was done very well, it was immersive and engaging!

This was so difficult for me to get through. Despite it not being that long, I almost threw in the towel at least 3 times before getting to the halfway mark. The things I did like were the Latino heritage representation and the FMC with a disability. Other than that, this was not good 🥲 the writing was juvenile at best. The 3rd person writing was SO confusing because it would just bounce between perspective without indication. The smut felt like it came out of nowhere and the main characters developed deep feelings in like 4 seconds. Also the narrator for the audio book killed me, I did not like it at all.

I feel bad not loving this but it just let me down!!

🫶🏽What I enjoyed:
This book does have great representation with a female lead who is Mexican American and has cerebral palsy, while being a single mom and business owner. The small witchy town had a cozy vibe thanks to close knit characters and a bakery with infused spells, which is fun to imagine. Although this only had one narrator despite being dual POV, I was able to easily follow along with the audio. Overall narration was pleasant and I would listen to more from Stacy Gonzalez.

What didn't work for me:
Olivia and Draven go from strangers who don't trust one another to banging it out repeatedly pretty quickly, making this feel more insta lovey because an intimate/emotional relationship was hardly developed. I feel like I was mostly told that they had a connection, rather than shown (other than a physical connection) and the multiple sex scenes seemed like filler as a few of them didn't necessarily help move the story forward.

My biggest struggle though is that Draven came off as a straight up villain and I couldn't root for him. His grief from his mother's death along with abandonment issues from his dad made him ugly, and I have a serious problem with using grief as an excuse for trying to intentionally hurt others. He sounded like a child throwing a temper tantrum (If I can't have magic, then no one can! Meh!). He does have a character arc, but it wasn't enough to bring me back on board and everyone forgave him too easily considering what he had done.

🎧🎧 Book Review 🎧🎧 Do you believe in magic? Whether or not you do, something is going on in the town of Addersfield, Rhode Island and journalist Draven James is going to expose it. What he did not expect to find was such a charming town with absolutely endearing characters like single mother Olivia Ayala and her family and friends. She runs the local bakery and just happens to live next door to his rental and their attraction is undeniable. As they dive deep into their vulnerabilities about the whole spectrum of life’s obstacles, the threat of realizing secrets looms above. And while not all of us practice magic, we do have insecurities that we carry and wonder when is the right time to share those in a relationship. Stacy Gonzalez does a wonderful job narrating Magic in the Air, bringing to life this super fun fall read; a perfect combination of all witchy comforts we love rolled up into a delightful fall treat.

Review is on Goodreads and will be posted on instagram closer to publication date and on Amazon when published!

Magic in the Air
I love a good cozy bit of magic this time of year. Magic in the Air checks all the boxes. Small town, witches, coffee, hotel rooms w actual keys, romance, a little spice, characters that jump off the page.

The town and characters remind me of Gilmore Girls but with magic. Everyone knows everyone, can’t leave a business and arrive at another without the patrons knowing where you’ve been. I feel like this group of girl friends, is my group of friends. I did not want to leave the town when I finished the book. Take me back please!

Olivia is a witch, a single mom, a fiercely strong woman, an amazing friend, and a very forgiving soul. Draven comes to town with a secret dislike for magic and a plan. Instant chemistry, romance, meddling friends, chaos, forgiveness, and a HEA. Hoping to get additional stories from this crew.

I wanted more magic 🤣 you can feel how connected the witches are to their magic and how much it means to them.

The narrator is great! She goes in and out of accents and voices seamlessly. Thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience. Perfect way to kick off my spooky season reads. Thank you to all for the eARC audio

Olivia Ayala has mastered the art of blending the perfect ingredients to create magical confections in her small-town bakery in Addersfield, Rhode Island—a sanctuary for witches since 1697. And she doesn't let the fact that she has cerebral palsy slow her down! She's a force to be reckoned with!

Draven James: charming, annoyingly handsome, and mysteriously capable of finding a town hidden from the outside world. His arrival stirs the air and Olivia's heart, igniting a spark she hadn't realized was missing.

A few things about this.
The first and most important is that the narrator has a very particular style, giving certain sentences and dialogues a weird tone, a very "yass gurl slay" tone. It made dislike some characters, specially Parker.
Second, i found the main character a bit unlikable. I understand that background story is important, but it made her actions and internal monologue annoying.
Third, the instalove was a lot. Specially for two people that claim to be so 'garded '
Finally, the smut. It felt out of context, as if it was written by someone and the rest of the story by a different person.

Olivia and her son lives in a magical town of witches. She has a bakery there and had sworn of love until a beautiful man comes into town. Draven is in town to find out the town's secret. His mother was a witch and he hadn't found out until he lost her 6 months earlier. He can't tell people in the town why he's there because he's up to no good. But then he meets Olivia and now he is confused.

Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Introducing your new fav witch; Olivia. A single mom and Latin witch who doesn’t let her Cerebral Palsy slow her down; she’s known for whipping up delicious treats at her bakery in her small town that’s known for magic. But when Draven, a handsome stranger enters town Olivia starts to question what his real reasons for entering town really are?

Hands down this is going to be a fall favourite. I absolutely loved the bad assery that is Olivia’s character. I loved all of the representation and not once did I feel like the author was trying to do too much. There was soooo much female empowerment and I just wanted to cue up Shania Twain (let’s go girls). That being said I also loved Draven’s character and really rooted for the two together. While they obviously had secrets between each other there was still so much room for open communication and for once the two main characters actually had that!! No frustrating miscommunication here!

This one got Spicy and quite vulgar/ descriptive at times but I’m so glad that it didn’t take away from the story.

Loved the narrator and I could just feel the magic in the air (see what I did there ) while listening!

Thanks to netgalley for my advanced listening copy! Put this one on your fall TBR!

The audio is great. I really enjoyed the narrator. The story was cute, spice was excellent. I just had trouble with the insta love.
She went from not trusting him to jumping into bed with him in the blink of eye. Then he's saying he loves everything about her, but they are still essentially strangers 🤷‍♀️

Thank you to netgalley for the alc in exchange for an honest review.
