If you’re a fan of comfort food that feels like a warm hug, Favorite Amish Recipes That Taste Like Home and Love is a cookbook you’ll want to keep handy. In this sample, Wanda E. Brunstetter shares a delicious glimpse of what to expect from her latest collection of over 200 recipes crafted by Amish and Mennonite cooks.

From hearty main dishes to indulgent desserts, this book captures the essence of home-cooked goodness, perfect for soothing bad days or enhancing special occasions. While it doesn’t dive into the science of why comfort food makes us feel better, it delivers exactly what you need when life calls for mac and cheese or fresh-baked cookies.

Based on the sample, I’m eager to see the full copy and dive deeper into these comforting, nostalgic recipes. It’s like a taste of simpler times—perfect for anyone who craves comfort and community. 🥧❤️

This was not the full cookbook ARC but that was completely fine because even in the sample there are so many good recipes! Right away I knew my daughters and I will be making the Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix for Christmas gifts for everyone. Other Standout recipes were.
Golden Milk Tonic
Baked Oatmeal
Angel Biscuits
Grandma's Honey Wheat Bread
Peaches and Cream Waffles

I will definitely be on the look out for the complete cookbook!

This beautifully designed book will please many who appreciate comfort foods. The pages I previewed included the first chapters: Memorable Beverages, Nostalgic Breakfast Foods, and Cozy and Crusty Breads. The varied breakfast selection’s especially appealed to me, and I plan to make the Dutch Baby crowd-size pancake soon! I don’t doubt that the remaining sections: Savory Salads and Sides, Stick-to-your-Ribs Main Dishes, Comforting Soups, and Indulgent Desserts— all contain mouthwatering entrees for comfort-food enthusiasts. Wanda E. Brunstetter’s cookbooks are well-known compilations of recipes gathered Amish and Mennonite cooks throughout America, and this volume is an inviting addition for your own cookbook shelf or for food lovers on your gift list.

This collection of recipes and stories is like a warm hug. There are breakfasts and to enjoy with friends and family. The main tenet of this cookbook is a focus on comfort foods, and you will find them here. While there is nothing hugely new, it is a good reminder that together we celebrate and are so much stronger.
Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed exploring the down home type recipes in the cookbook.
The recipes make me think of comfort food I grew up eating.
My one complaint is that every time I get a cookbook from NetGalley, the way it downloads on my Kindle PaperWhite is not reader friendly in any way….. I wonder if this is something that can be addressed?

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own.

I'm intrigued to read the rest of this book. I already found a few recipes I must try, such as next week my family is getting pancake pizza for dinner.

"If it weren't for hot water the teakettle wouldn't sing." Amish saying

Wanda Brunstetter offers her newest Amish Friends Cookbook for your collection. This book shares over 200 recipes of comfort foods in a spiral- bound volume. It includes beautiful photos of Amish properties and foods. Recipes submitted from Amish women include beverages, breakfast foods, cozy and crusty breads, main dishes, comforting soups and indulgent desserts. Those of us who read Mrs. Brunstetters works of fiction will recognize a popular Sunday staple; peanut butter spread. Other interesting offerings include hot chocolate, pumpkin spice latte, eggnog and many casseroles.

I received a digital e-copy of a portion of the cookbook from the publisher and NetGalley. Thermos oatmeal, breakfast haystacks and potato buns were of interest to me. I am sure the book deserves a 5 but I'm giving a rating of 4 due to the portion of recipes, introduction and photos I was able to see and read. This would be a great Christmas present or bridal shower gift in my own opinion.

Jamocha shake took me right out.
Burrito casserole? for an amish cookbook...
This cook book kind of seems like a woman just scoured pinterest fro vaguely rustic recipes.
Recipes look good and the amish Peanut butter spread was correct. but still kind of random and barely amish.

The Wanda E Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Comfort Foods Cookbook has beautiful pictures throughout but more importantly, it has recipes that will intrigue most people. From simple drop biscuit recipes to beloved ice box cake recipes, there is something for everyone. The recipes at the forefront of my try pile are the Baked Oatmeal, Raspberry-Stuffed French Toast, Dutch Baby (which sounds like a German pancake), Amish Peanut Butter Spread, and Cinnamon Butter. Perfect gift for that special someone who likes to cook, or is like me, a cookbook reader.

To me this book does scream comfort food & I feel like it was full of some really great recipes. I like that they compiled the recipes from different Amish and Mennonite communities.

I think they did a nice job with the images that were used in the books, some were scenes of things you see in Amish areas as well as the images of recipes in the book. Not every recipe had an image but in this instance that was okay for me. The recipes and book were laid out nice and easy to follow along which is important for a cookbook as well!

The book I received was a sample copy but I still loved it. I think the actual copy with more recipes will be amazing and something many people will love!
