Jamocha shake took me right out.
Burrito casserole? for an amish cookbook...
This cook book kind of seems like a woman just scoured pinterest fro vaguely rustic recipes.
Recipes look good and the amish Peanut butter spread was correct. but still kind of random and barely amish.

The Wanda E Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Comfort Foods Cookbook has beautiful pictures throughout but more importantly, it has recipes that will intrigue most people. From simple drop biscuit recipes to beloved ice box cake recipes, there is something for everyone. The recipes at the forefront of my try pile are the Baked Oatmeal, Raspberry-Stuffed French Toast, Dutch Baby (which sounds like a German pancake), Amish Peanut Butter Spread, and Cinnamon Butter. Perfect gift for that special someone who likes to cook, or is like me, a cookbook reader.

To me this book does scream comfort food & I feel like it was full of some really great recipes. I like that they compiled the recipes from different Amish and Mennonite communities.

I think they did a nice job with the images that were used in the books, some were scenes of things you see in Amish areas as well as the images of recipes in the book. Not every recipe had an image but in this instance that was okay for me. The recipes and book were laid out nice and easy to follow along which is important for a cookbook as well!

The book I received was a sample copy but I still loved it. I think the actual copy with more recipes will be amazing and something many people will love!

While not a cookbook for every collection, this volume would make an excellent addition to a library familiar with a strong readership of Brunstetter's books or for a library that serves an active home cooking community. The recipes provided in the sample are well written, with clear ingredient lists and steps, though the "gathered from the community" nature of the book does mean that some recipes have serving amounts or estimated preparation times, while others do not. Novice cooks might need to run through a recipe a few times to be sure it will work as expected. Outside of this, the photography and page layout is appealing and certainly up to the cozy/comfort level one expects from the title. Thank you to NetGalley for access to this arc.

This is such a good cookbook for beginners! It has an array of recipes from the basic to intermediate. My favorite part of the sample was the drinks (there is even a recipe for rootbeer!!!) and pumpkin cinnamon rolls! The cookbook is also very aesthetically pleasing, but I do prefer that cookbooks have more photos of the dishes than this one had.

Thank you NetGalley for my copy!

Yummy comfort recipes that are weaved together with the author's personal stories. Delicious and traditional meals perfect for all seasons and all kitchens.

The Amish Friends Comfort Foods Cookbook sample was a bit difficult to read as the pages would not stay in position. Perhaps it's user error by me and I might need to ask my kids what I could have done to fix the pages moving. That being written the recipes look like your typical comfort food that often make you happy. The recipes also looked pretty thrifty which is another plus.

Review written after reading a temporary sample of the cookbook downloaded from NetGalley.

Are you in the mood for some comfort foods? Then you need to check out Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Comfort Foods Cookbook.

As fall approaches, there is nothing like some good, old comfort food to soothe the soul. Brunstetter, a bestselling author of Amish fiction, has compiled hundreds of comfort food recipes submitted by Amish and Mennonite friends who live in plain communities around the country.

In between, readers will find a personal story, Scripture verses, Amish sayings, and stunning photography. This cookbook includes everything from beverages to desserts to main dishes and sides and so much more! I'm eager to try some of the "cozy and crusty breads."

This NetGalley digital copy was only a sample of the text, but if the rest of the book is like the sample, I'll be hooked. And so will you! It's like taking all the comfort food recipes from your favorite Amish novels and compiling them in one sweet spot.

Highly recommended!

Having just visited an Amish Community while visiting the USA and the fact I do love cooking and recipes I found this sample cookbook very interesting and a book I would like to read more of. I love the stories and the 'Comfort' which the book provides in its stories and recipes. This is a book not just about recipes but about food and what it does to bring people together. That is what I love about food.

Thank you NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book and I do hope I can get my hands on the full copy soon.

This is a cookbook with a spiritual bent. The recipes come from the Amish community and have been collected by Brunstetter.

This title opens with an acknowledgment of what comfort foods offer. Then follow the many recipes. The sample covers beverages, breakfasts and breads. The full book will also have salads, mains, soups and desserts.

Just a few of the recipes include those for a pumpkin spice latte, egg muffins, and garlic cheddar biscuits. The directions are clear and easy to follow. Each contributor is named.

Also in the book are some reminiscences. There were some lovely photos too.

This is a nice book that will be enjoyed by its audience.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for this title. All opinions are my own.
