Bob Goff is a magician when it comes to changing the way we view the world and the people in it. The title of this book is the perfect example of his skills. When we think of growing deeper in our faith, our mind might conjure up images of stern-faced theologians, laboring over complex texts, and approach it with anxiously with feeling of shame of falling short of where we need to be. In Catching Whimsy, Bob does the exact opposite. Every day of this 365-day challenge takes us on an adventure of what we can become and how we can adjust our vision to see others and ourselves the way God sees us - as incredible creations made in His image. The introduction to the book sets the tone, "we can't catch what we don't chase". If we are going to change our lives, we have to be intentional about it and Catching Whimsy gives us the roadmap to do that. Change can be daunting, but this book gives us the tools to achieve true change. Each day Bob engages the reader by painting a picture that is universally relatable and ending with a practical question or challenging thought that can be easily applied. The daily, dated readings begin with a memorable title and thought, acting as banks to a river that guide the reader gently without imposing rigid opinions, allowing us to navigate the waters of self-refinement and reflection. Examples of daily titles are "Pursue Your Purpose and Stop Worrying about Everyone Else", "Stop Putting in the Microwave What needs to Go into the Crockpot" and "Wanna Meet Jesus? Feed the Hungry". Going into a new year, Catching Whimsey is exactly what we need to set aside a short, but meaningful time each day to become more intentional with others, more forgiving toward ourselves and more connected to a God who as Bob says is "over the moon" about us.

Inspirational author Bob Goff has done it again, and this time he’s written an encouraging daily devotional book. There are 365 brief devotions, divided into monthly sections. Each devotion contains a Bible passage as well as relevant anecdotes from the author’s life. Perfect for gift-giving, beginning this book would be a great start to a new year.

Few devotionals have given such easily applied advice. Each day of this devotional leaves you wanting to change your life for the better in a Biblical way. I would especially recommend this to anyone wanting to take next steps in their life because it gives you the foundation to move forward in what God has already given you. This book opens your eyes to the wonders around you and the practical ways you can grasp it. Read this book to hear how God cares for you, to recenter your life on Him, and most of all, to catch some whimsy!

Bob Goff has a unique ability to combine Bible verses and personal stories and turn them into lessons for life. In his latest daily devotional book, Catching Whimsey, he puts this talent on full display. Every day, Bob provides entertainment, inspiration, and guidance in living and loving more like Jesus. The only way I could have enjoyed it more is if it were a leap year, and I got one more of Bob Goff’s beautiful thoughts.

Sometimes we all need a friendly voice of encouragement to help us start the day. Bob Goff has provided a much-needed companion for your morning routine in his latest book, Catching Whimsy: 365 Days of Possibility. The daily passages are meant to help readers “wake up to curiosity, delight, and possibility” in their lives. I have been a huge fan of this author and motivational speaker since I read his first book Love Does. His folksy style of writing and personal way of addressing important topics have forever endeared him to fans. Goff is a trusted voice and a go-to author for me.
Catching Whimsy is a collection of devotionals designed to be read once a day for a year. The short passages include an often catchy title (for example “You’re Beautiful, Even on a Bad Hair Day”), followed by a Bible verse and a five-minute read related to the topic. Those who are unfamiliar with Goff’s style will soon feel as if they are engaging in an intimate conversation over coffee through the quick bits of inspiration provided in the devotionals. The book, though having dates on each reading, can be read at any time of year to encourage and inspire readers.
Releasing December 10, 2024, this book would make a great gift for someone on your holiday shopping list.
Thank you to NetGalley and Nelson Books for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Bob Goff has done it again! He challenges me by reminding me of who God is and who I am in Him. Would strongly encourage others to read for themselves as it will change you and your day, all for the better. Thanks again Bob for putting in words what we already know but easily forget. God loves us and accepts us as we are and he wants us to remind others of this.

Bob Goff does it again. The blend of inspiration, grounded reality, hope and optimism, and the truth of Scripture is perfection. It's also so unique to him, someone who can see both the forest and the trees. There's important perspective on life, love, joy, hope, and the daily grind of life. This is perfect for going through day by day.

I really appreciate Bob's approach to this devotional. The way he brings together stories along with the selected sections of scripture help the reader to imagine themselves in that position and help make applying the principle easier. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't a feel-good type of devotional, either, Most days included a real call-to-action for the reader to really make them think of how this principle works out; to dig deep and search within themselves. It wasn't just a few light-hearted questions; they felt like real, thought-provoking questions you may get in a therapy session. This devotional may be one of the few I'll keep around for reuse.

Who doesn’t love Bob Goff?! We all need whimsy in our lives. And there is no one better than Bob Goff to impart whimsy. Of course everyone should read this and all of his books.

Not my favorite devotional, but Bob Goff is an experienced writer and an exceptional theologian. Read daily, Catching Whimsy could be just the day-to-day meditation many are searching for.

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Bob Goff has a way of connecting to the heart of the reader in this daily Devotional book. Great words for every day living and words that lead you closer to God and Scripture.
Definitely a Devotional I will be purchasing and reading for the New Year .

Bob Goff is so inspiring and offers such hope to readers. This book didn't disappoint. I definitely will be encouraging others to read this one for themselves as telling them about it doesn't do it justice.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by netgalley and under no obligation to leave a review. All opinions are strictly mine.

If there is anyone in this world that I think could teach us a thing or two about whimsy, it would be Bob Goff. Having read his previous books (and having frequently claimed that I'm fairly certain Bob Goff is my spirit animal), I know he's up to the task.
That said, "whimsy" isn't really what I got out of this book. This book is about living the good life, the faithful life, the light-spirited kind of life that Jesus called us to live in loving Him and loving one another. It has some stories I don't remember hearing before from Bob and some old favorites, and each day's devotional is an encouragement to look at the world with wider eyes and wider arms. But I just wasn't getting an overwhelming sense of "whimsy" like I was hoping for. I was hoping for more, you know, beach balls and balloons and what the book actually is is just...goodness and love and being human in the image of God.
I like the book. I would recommend it to friends. I would flip through its pages again and hop around and read things again. I will hold some of these things close to my heart and do my best, in my fallen humanity, to put them into practice. But I think the book is mistitled. It's not what I expected it to be; it's not what I thought Bob could deliver in terms of real "whimsy," and, well, I'm in a season of trying to relearn things like whimsy, so it wasn't quite what I was hoping it would be. But it's still good, and good is always good.

A wonderful daily devotional collection! I love Bob Goff's books, and this provides a lovely dose of his writings each day. While based on Biblical scripture, the author uses contemporary language and life situations to give you something to challenge you to be a better person and a better Christian each day of the year. It can be started any day of the year.
I love really good devotionals like this, and I'm glad there's a new one available.

I love Bob Goff’s writing and outlook on life. His lighthearted approach to life and faith is a breath of fresh air. These short devotions are a great way to start each morning! Catching Whimsy is a perfect gift for yourself or others.

Bob Goff has done it again! His style of writing is so accessible and fun to read! This would be a wonderful gift for anyone. It shares Jesus, fun stories, and Bob’s lighthearted tone. I love how he describes whimsy more in depth and shares the joy of the Father!

Bob Goff always has such a way of weaving delight and joy into his writings. While I connect more through his books than his short devotionals, there are a few gems in here. They’re very easy and accessible for new believers.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this earc! Excited to add this daily devotional to my morning routine

Thank you NetGalley for this copy of Goff's new devotional. I've read a couple of books of his and was excited to get a chance to start going through his devotional. I'm assuming because it was advance copy and sometimes my Kindle does weird things with those, there are no dates to go along with the devotions, so I just started in January (There is a note to the month). Each day starts with a scripture so it has been easy to see the breaks. I'm already enjoying the devotions and getting takeaways that I actually may remember by the end of the day. I have gone through other devotionals that I've forgotten it as soon as I read it. Goff's devotions are quick, fun, easy to read, but do still have meat on the bones that gives a message to take away. I can't wait to keep on going through it!

Bob Goff is hilarious! I have heard him speak a few times and he is so fun! This book was great. Lots of little stories (some I have heard before) along with scripture, and tips on how to be a better person. The only thing I didn't like was the chapters seemed very long. I think it would be better and an easier read if the days were numbered in each month. Any book by Bob is a treat for the reader so of course I would rec it!
