The Journey of Bee Bea is a cute children’s / preschool book that introduces young readers to the concept of mindfulness and calm through a delightful story. Bee Bea’s magical quest is illustrated with vibrant images that engage children while teaching them simple yoga techniques. I appreciated this book for its ability to make mindfulness accessible and fun for little ones, turning a calming practice into an adventure that both children and parents will enjoy.

Cute picture book with simple pictures and activities that any parent can use.
The Journey of Bee Bea by Marta Lanfranco tells the story of a little bee that works hard collecting pollen from the flowers on the balconies of the gray apartments in the gray city. When a storm blows Bea out of her neighborhood, a friendly rainbow lends a colorful helping hand to get her back to her home. With its simple story, cute characters, basic underlying message, and the added value of easy-to-do activities parents can use to enhance their child’s engagement in the story, this book would be a nice addition to the bedtime routine or story time rotation.
Shanti, the little purple storyteller, appears on each page and offers questions parents can ask their children as the story unfolds, drawing out the enjoyment and making it easier for parents to really share the story with their child rather than just reading it at them. The author also explains that the illustrations were deliberately kept simple to allow children to trace the pictures onto paper to color for themselves. I loved the idea that the colors of the rainbow transferred onto Bea when she was being helped home, and once there, she could colorize the entire gray neighborhood. While the text is simple, sometimes it rhymes, and sometimes it doesn’t. I would have preferred the whole work to have been one or the other. My children probably wouldn’t specifically ask to have this one read again and again without having their interest re-ignited using the coloring activity.
I recommend THE JOURNEY OF BEE BEA to preschool and younger elementary school-age children.
A cute intro to the concept of yoga picture book about a bee who loses her way and gets help from a friendly rainbow. The illustrations are simple and drawn in a cute bubble cartoon style that would appeal to young children. I really liked the little character in the corner of each page that asks a question about the story; when I was a behavioural interventionist for kids on the autism spectrum one of the activities we did was read a book together and I would ask questions about the story to check engagement and comprehension. This book would be perfect for one on one educators or parents with young children. There is also an activity at the end of the book that was a lovely addition! I think the education value is high for this book, but the story itself is a little bit simplistic and may not have a lot of reread potential.
An enjoyable easygoing book for children about a bee trying to get home after a storm. It has lovely, simple illustrations and a nature theme. Even the introduction had me feeling relaxed.
About halfway through I noticed some rhymes in the text which had me wondering whether it should be read as a poem. However, as the rhymes didn’t flow easily, I found it felt more calming to read it as a story.
The little questions throughout the book are effective to open up discussion with your child and there is a fun activity at the end. There is also a great moral to the story, that being calm leads to happiness. Thank you to NetGalley/the publisher/author for this eARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this advance readers copy in exchange for my honest feedback. Beautifully written book for children about a bee that is swept away from its hive during a storm and its journey back to their home. The bee discovers a friendly rainbow that helps give the bee courage and direction to find its way back to its home. At the end of the book there is an activity for your child to enjoy that involve all the colors of the rainbow. Love all the bright colors as well as the deep moody darks throughout the story!
