Love the title and the cover. I love the Old Hollywood stories, biographies, etc. It takes us back to a time that was on the cusp of what we hav enow.
I don't know if people then would have known what Hollywood would become, but this book was entertaining, well done, and I love the sisterly bond of the characters. .

Thank you to Nimbus Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Jessica Ilse's The Majestic Sisters tell us the story of sisters Melly and Missy Calvert who, dancing at the Majestic Theater, captured the hearts of their Halifax, Nova Scotia hometown in the 1930s. When Melly flees to Atlanta to catch her big break at the Gone With the Wind premiere, Missy is left behind. In 1963 Melly receives word that the Majestic Theater will close for good, putting an end to the movie magic that propelled Melly to stardom. Melly returns to Halifax determined to save the theater and must reconcile with Missy. Ilse frames Missy and Melly's stories with that of Missy's daughters - Leonie, ambitious like Melly, and Birdie, who is more content with a quiet life - like Missy. The Majestic Sisters is story of sisters, and how the one you're closest to can hurt you the most, and a story of the glitz and glamour of Old Hollywood, The Majestic Sisters proves sometimes you can, and need to, go home and need to, go home again.

This was an interesting story about two sisters in Halifax, Nova Scotia that are the pre-show entertainers at the Majestic Theatre. They perform skits, dance and sing before the movies start. Majestic Melly and Majestic Missy - the Majestic Sisters.

The story begins with their start at the theatre and follows their lives - Missy meets and falls in love with hotelier Edward and Melly goes on to become a famous movie star. The sisters become estranged after Melly leaves town the night before Missy's wedding and doesn't come back. They only get back together years later when their beloved Majestic Theatre needs help saving it.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

THE MAJESTIC SISTERS is a bright and charming trip through the lives of a pair of theatrical sisters at a fictionalized version of the venerable Capitol Theatre, part of Halifax Nova Scotia's history. Missy and Melly Calvert sang, danced and joked their way into the hearts of movie-goers as pre-show performers at the Majestic Theatre, in the 1930s and 40s. The novel is in the form of gifted, strong-willed Melly's memoirs as she looks back on the happy days of being a local celebrity, her brief love affair, and her successful career in Hollywood. And the price paid in estrangement from Milly.

This was a fun read despite some heartbreaking moments. I enjoyed all the details of their costumes, gossip magazines and creative routines which complemented the theme of each movie that was showing at the Majestic. The Golden Age of Hollywood is fascinating in the right hands, and Jessica Ilse has done it nostalgic justice. And the depiction of a small city through the middle  eras of the last century was very well done. Also, the cover is exquisite!

Perfect for fans of Natalie Jenner and Janet Skeslien Charles.

Appreciation to @netgalley #netgalley, the author and @nimbuspub for this advance e-copy for review purposes.
