I enjoyed this one! If you ever found yourself scrolling through the teen wolf tag on ao3 at 3am at night this one is for you. It didn't feel like it pushed too hard into the shifter aspect and kept a good blend of fantasy details and romance! Growing up in online fandoms it was fun to see all the different elements through the lens of a celebrity-- from shipping to unrealistic standards. I also loved the fact that Devin was 42 years old, it felt different and unique and Alex isn't too far off in her upper mid 30s. However, I will say at times he doesn't feel his age but I also feel like that can be easily attributed to the fact he's a once child actor who has lived his whole life on set up till this point essentially. I kind of wish we got a bit more groveling from Devin in many occasions I feel like Alex forgave a bit too easily, but overall this was the perfect book to read while waiting on my delayed flight! Perfect to read if you love werewolves, romance, and fandom culture!

I am a Rosie Danan fan through and through, and I was LIVING for this book. I'm a huge sucker for the werewolf romances, and this one grabbed me right from the beginning. I adored the main characters and their witty banter, and I loved how Tumblr it felt. Definitely a great read for the Tumblr Millennials!

Fan Service was a refreshing, delightful read that had a ton of campy werewolves moments that I ate up. I’m such a paranormal romance girlie and thought this novel had such a unique spin to the werewolf genre. The slow burn of this book was incredible. I loved the way the emotional connection progresses between both characters. It was beautifully crafted. The spice was also spicing. I think I may have found a new favorite trope which is golden retriever mmc/black cat fmc. Their dynamic and sass was everything. The only small issue I had with the book is that it had a bit of slow start, which was mostly due to world building of the tv show.
Solid 4.5 stars read.

I am clawing at the bars of my enclosure over this damn book!! Rosie Danan truly cannot miss with a steamy romance, and Fan Service's tender core absolutely swept me off my feet. As a Teen Wolf stan and fandom lover, Fan Service really stole my heart. Looking forward to reading again and again!

it's exactly what it says it is in the summary and yet I feel like something was off. I think maybe I just didn't buy the connection between the two leads - a lot of stuff seems to happen inside each of their heads compared to in conversation between them - and the pacing fucking dragged. as a formerly terminally online millennial I did at least enjoy Alex's references even when other things were meh at best

Oh man. This book was every bit as good as I’d hoped it would be - better even! If you were fully immersed in a fandom in the late 90s/early 00s, this book is for you. I related to Alex on so many levels. Everything about her just resonated with me (except maybe not *those* piercings). And ego-centric Devin is really just a golden retriever/cinnamon roll hero disguised as a himbo. I looooove him! Thanks to Berkley for the ARC.

I absolutely loved this book. The concept was so interesting and I loved how fandom and all of its various elements were woven through it. Alex and Devin were compelling characters and I loved their chemistry and seeing their relationship blossom from fan and actor to tentative friends to lovers. This book was funny, sexy and a blast from start to finish. I can’t wait to recommend this to everyone I know once it comes out!

I really enjoyed this book. I think that the characters were likeable and the conflict fit the plot. I think that the resolution to the conflict fell a little flat and could have been a bit more drawn out. I enjoyed the epilogue and I especially enjoyed the snippets where it looked like blog posts.
As someone who was very into the TV show Supernatural and was big into the tumblr for that as well this was a funny read and I got the jokes.

"Fan Service" is a delightful and entertaining read that will leave you smiling. Danan's witty writing and the charming characters make this a must-read for fans of contemporary romance.

From the first few chapters, it is evident that Fan Service is chock full of compelling language as it reads quickly. Also, even though there is a supernatural element (hello, werewolf MMC) is still reads as realistic and authentic. Like, even literal werewolves have feelings, thoughts, fears and more. This was a fun, dual-perspective rivals-to-lovers, age-gap romance.

I really wanted to like this book, but I can't exactly put my finger on what made it a not-so-enjoyable read.
The hero wasn't very likeable, the heroine wasn't as powerful as she could've been, and the plot felt messy. While I enjoyed the slow-burn romance, this book just wasn't for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.

You should read this book if you like the following tropes:

-Who Did This to You
-LGBTQIA+ side characters
Thank you Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for allowing me to read a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Berkley & Netgalley for the arc!
Rosie Danan is officially an auto-buy author for me! I loved Do Your Worst, but Fan Service has now claimed the top spot as my favorite of hers. This book is hilarious, swoon-worthy, and full of unexpected twists! The chemistry between Alex and Devin is electric, and their journey together had me kicking my feet in excitement. I absolutely adored Alex’s growth — she’s this badass small-town outcast who’s carved out her own space in the world of Arcane fandom, but Devin’s presence challenges her in the best way. I was all in for the arcane files, the fanfics, the mystery, and of course, the curse that’s entwined with Devin's past.
Devin’s character development is such a highlight too. Watching him go from this washed-up celebrity to someone trying to reckon with his new reality was so satisfying. And can we talk about that ending? I loved seeing Devin take on a new purpose with retired racing horses, it was so heartwarming. Honestly, if you’re into fan culture, ex-Hollywood stars, werewolves, and slow-burn romance, this book is a must-read. Fan Service had me laughing, swooning, and feeling all the feels. Can’t recommend it enough!

I rated this book 3.75 on StoryGraph. I received an ARC through Netgalley. I thought the premise and overall book was cute and had a good plot. It was some of the internal details and writing that lowered my review. It took me a few days to finish this book because I wasn’t overly loving it.
I did enjoy “Do your worst” from this author.
There were a few times in the book, I was just icked out with the writing. This may change as the book goes through final edits. Because of a comment made by the MMC when she was 17, the FMC went on her “villain arc” is the best way to describe it. When they meet again at 30ish, she has multiple tattoos, piercings, and has a standoffish personality. There were a lot of times she was written like a how you’d describe a mean girl in high school. “Gallons of eyeliner”, “wore a dress with stomping mile high boots”, or things along those lines.
To me, just seems like the author wrote the book like she disliked the FMC, and that was the vibes it gave me. Not too mention a miscommunication third act breakup.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I wouldn’t buy myself a physical shelf trophy, and reading anything else would go down my priority reading list.

3.7 ⭐ - This is a difficult review for me to write. On one hand, it pains me that this wasn't a 5 star read for me. I am a die-hard Rosie Danan fan and this book has so many aspects I thought I would be head over heels for:
- fandom rep
- supernatural (werewolf x human)
- celebrity x their former biggest fan
- Somewhere between 🌶️🌶️ to 🌶️🌶️🌶️ /5
This book felt like one giant deep cut for millennials, and I resonated with a lot of it. But on the other hand, it felt kind of all over the place? Something about the pacing and world building felt disjointed. It felt like it dipped its toe in a bunch of different pools but never really jumped in.
Here is what worked for me:
- I love a ball-busting FMC, and she really let Devin have it
- She did redeem Devin, who I found DEEPLY unlikable, which I believe was on purpose. But the sympathy she built towards his character was perfect
But here is what didn't work for me:
- Alex accepts the Devin showing up / werewolf situation WAYYYY to easily. I felt like she should have been a little more thrown off by him actually showing up in Florida and the fact that she was face to face with her childhood/teen obsession
- I understood why she used the logic of using the tv show / fandom as their primary source of research for all things werewolf, but honestly it just didn’t feel like enough. They did three trials to test his ability to control himself and while they were incredibly entertaining (!!!) it just felt a little too easy.
- I knew Devin was going to be a douche, but my god he was unlikable. There were several times I was hoping he'd step up sooner and it just make him more unlikable to me that he didn't. Now after the 50% mark, we DID get a lot of redemption, so I'm not saying he was irredeemable but he is deeply unlikable
- Devin is incredibly not self aware, but I thought we would get more character growth where he would show he understood how the way he was reacting was hurting Alex’s feelings but he just…didn’t? What made this worse was that his character was also, somehow, able to “see right through her” and clock all of her deepest insecurities. Maybe this just made him infuriating to me, but I felt like it didn’t make sense for the character that was built.
- There were moments that I could tell were meant to establish a level of familiarity between the characters, but the groundwork of the relationship just wasn't there, so it made it confusing and unbelievable

RATING: 4/5 STARS
This brought back the Teen Wolf and The Vampire Diaries nostalgia. A very fun read.

I tripped and fell and consumed this book as voraciously as if I myself was suddenly and inexplicably becoming a werewolf a la Devin Ashwood, the chiseled dream boat main character. Consider this book a raw steak on a counter or the hot female lead and *me* the beast unable to stop going at it. I could not stop.
Devin is a former star of a paranormal show with a cult following who somehow finds himself losing both his career and his humanity when he shifts into a wolf following a once-ever-150-years cosmic event. First of all, I love Alex; she's the grumpy Jewish tattooed black cat girl of my dreams. And second of all, I love the wound of para-social relationships and misunderstanding being a central point here. Like everything Rosie Danan writes, it is hot and charming, and I want to give a particular shout out to the moment where Alex mentions only liking video games for the fussy bisexual vampire. This. Book. Is. For the Astarion girlies, and I love that more than I can really put into words. But really it's also for all of us who have followed a paranormal tv show and experienced the exquisite joy of learning way too much about it and reading or writing fanfic.
Thank you so much to Rosie Danan, Berkley, and NetGalley, for this absolute GEM of an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I’m a big Rosie Danna fan, and while this book was a departure from her last books, it had a lot of her normal stuff that I really enjoyed. While the supernatural aspect took a bit for me to get used to, I really loved the relationship, and I loved the power of fandom that Rosie showed with Alex and her friends. I liked how they opened up to each other and felt like real people, werewolf aside.

Fan Service explores fandom, the safety it can offer, and the walls you can build around yourself with it.
Rosie Danan introduces us to a teen obsessed with a supernatural TV show featuring a werewolf cop. She invests, connects, and becomes part of the online fandom. Then she meets her obsession, and cold water is poured all over her.
Jump ahead several years, and the show is canceled, the teen is grown, and the actor may be turning into a real werewolf.
Yes, it's not a super realistic plot but some very real lessons come from reading it.
Is Alex really a town outcast or is she sheltering herself from life to avoid getting hurt?? Is Devin a vapid actor or just stuck trying to fill someone else's goals for him?
Will Rosie Danan make you giggle and blush while reading? The answer is always yes.
Read it and then take a look at the stories about yourself that you tell-- how much of it is real? How much of you are you hiding?

That was beautiful and sweet and, surprisingly, deep.
I received this as an advanced reader copy and I will probably re-read it whenever the audiobook comes out because I loved it so, so, so much.
Devin is a bit of a self-focused guy who was pushed into Hollywood as a child and never found a way to having a life outside of it. In a weird twist of fate, his real life is about to mirror his character's life when he experiences some weird changes. He ends up finding the moderator of his fan wiki page who happens to be someone who had a crush on him when she was a kid. They are now 34 (her) and 42 (him) when they meet again as adults when he works to convince her to help him out.
This is a contemporary rom-com with a slight dash of the paranormal that helps the two characters work through their issues and come together in such a beautiful way. The way this man is ravenous for her and how he schemes to woo her? 🥰
I cannot even begin to tell you how beautifully written this book is as it shows them peeling back their emotional layers and learning to trust each other. There was definitely some real tears being shed in the later part of this book.
Basically, I highly recommend and I loved it so much.
Safety deets
- On page spice. He's great at making sure she 💦 first.
- Beautiful consent. They discuss what each is comfortable and have a really good conversation that continues in a sexy and comforting way in all their physical intimacy.
- He's been married and divorced. There are some signs that he has slept around, but we don't hear about any details.
- She's slept with various folks and we do meet one of her ex-lovers. Other than Devin getting VERY jealous/possessive, there's no drama there.
- They are unequivocally together at the end. No wedding or long-term epilogue, but I still thought the peek we got several months into the future was super cute.
- Birth control discussed and condoms used.
