this story is one that i should've done more research on before requesting because it is very much not something that i enjoy and i'm just not having a good time. out main character loved this tv show and the main actor from it is now kinda washed up and turning into a werewolf???? idk it is just very much not my cup of tea. i've seen people say this is for enjoyers of bride by ali hazelwood so maybe but this is just not for me....
*thank you netgalley for the ARC*

“‘I’d like to spend the rest of my life howling at your door.’”
For starters, I definitely enjoyed Fan Service more than Rosie Danan’s previous book Do Your Worst. I connected with the female main character Alex a lot more than I expected. As a former Tumblr diehard, I understood the niches of fandom, even if I wasn’t in ones for Supernatural or Teen Wolf, which Devin’s show is definitely inspired by.
That being said, this is the type of romance book I love– the ones with silly setups that you don’t have to take too seriously. Oh, the actor from your favorite TV show you’ve had a crush on since you were a teen is turning into a werewolf and needs your help? And he’s super horny? Amazing! Give me 300 pages of this.
While I did struggle with the beginning half of this book, the rest made up for it. I thought Devin was an asshole, and Alex was a y/n (being hated by her town for no reason, calling the grown men harassing her “jocks,” etc.) but then I realized– this reads like fanfic! It’s okay to let it be iffy! That’s the fun of it all.
Now I’m not trying to say Danan writes like bad fanfic– far from it. Her writing style always pulls me in and helps me feel for the characters, and she gives us banger lines like “I’m not going to–’ he lowered his voice– ‘“transform” in this Dunkin’ Donuts.’”
Lastly—everyone say thank you Rosie Danan for giving us a REAL WEREWOLF! I swear, some romance books say the character is a werewolf but it’s just occasional growling and fated mates tropes. Devin is a FERAL wolf and it was so fun. Kinda makes me want Danan to try her hand at a vampire romance now.
Overall, it was what I expected. A cute, entertaining, smutty book that I got lost in.

I’ll start off by saying while I do love a few fandoms, I’ve never fully invested in them like our FMC so I’m not the target audience of this book. However, as a millennial I did grow up on the CW so I had fun rotating in my head what real shows were inspiring the fictional one lol. Even as not a big participator in fandoms, this was a fun, easy read. Rosie always writes a story that will keep you reading.

Rosie Danan is one of the best voices in romance right now, and this is no exception. At once a send up to fan culture and a love letter to it, FAN SERVICE is delightful, thoughtful, sometimes zany, and (the Danan trademark) horny as anything. I cruised through this and now can be found feverishly waiting for whatever she writes for us next.

This was such a fun read. I appreciated how crazy the werewolf situation was and how the author ran with it. It was a unique take on the trope and I laughed from beginning to end. I give Fan Service 5/5 stars for being very entertaining.
Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the opportunity to review Fan Service by Rosie Danan

This was a lot of fun!
The book blurs the line between fiction and real life and I appreciated how clever it all was. I particularly enjoyed how they used the show’s lore to figure out Devon’s shapeshifting abilities because let’s be honest… we would all have done that in their shoes.
It’s an ode to us nerds, tellings us that our quirks might have made us pariahs at one point but knowledge we have gleaned along the years might become useful one day.
It’s funny, a little cynical and a little spicy. The characters sound younger than they are but not too surprising ad they both been stuck in the past.
Devon has the alpha babygirl energy going on and Alex wore the disillusioned sarcastic millennial armor proudly.
Would recommend!

Rosie Danan plays with supernatural TV shows (like, say, Supernatural), in a way that is incredibly fun for fans, and probably newbies. The premise (what if the star of a fantasy werewolf TV show seemed to be turning into a werewolf in real life?) is paranormal, and allows for a lot of meta-level conversation about these types of shows and plots. The inclusion of articles, forum entries, etc from fansites was incredibly fun as well.
Alex, the moderator of a forum dedicated to lore about the TV show The Arcane Files and holder of a massive grudge against its star, Devin, agrees to help said star figure out how to control his werewolf shifts. The explanation for why Devin's lycanthropy is so close to the show was very clever.
The bulk, and the joy, of this book is the two main characters getting to know and like each other. They're both kind of prickly and damaged, but in very different ways. The relationship between them develops so naturally, and it's very believable that they would fall for each other despite their resistance. This book is so funny, and their conversations and internal monologues are hilarious. As well developed as the central relationship is, I wish we had a bit more scenes with some of the supporting characters in the second half of the book to ground the ending in the community they've been fighting so hard for. The end felt a little rushed, but that's a minor complaint—overall, the pacing of this book is great.

Rosie Danan went for broke writing a werewolf story and honestly hit the ball out of the park. This was so fun and so silly yet so steamy and gripping. Love her writing beyond words.

Fan Service is a witty, imaginative gem of a rom-com that blends paranormal thrills with a laugh-out-loud enemies-to-lovers romance. Alex Lawson, a small-town fan forum queen, never expected to find herself face-to-face with Devin Ashwood—the star of The Arcane Files and, much to her dismay, her childhood idol turned enemy. When Devin mysteriously finds himself transformed into an actual werewolf, he turns to Alex, the ultimate fandom expert, to unravel his new reality.
The author does a brilliant job capturing the electric tension between Alex and Devin, with snappy banter and fiery chemistry that leaps off the page. The book is packed with hilarious, fangirl-worthy moments and has a sharp, modern edge that perfectly balances its paranormal elements. Devin’s journey from Hollywood cynic to a surprisingly lovable, misunderstood hero is layered with emotion, and Alex’s journey—confronting her fandom idols and figuring out her place in a world where the line between fantasy and reality blurs—is deeply relatable.
The pacing is tight, the plot is clever, and the romance is deliciously steamy. Fan Service is a treat for anyone who loves fandom, fantasy, or a well-crafted romance that doesn't take itself too seriously. A must-read for paranormal rom-com lovers who want both laughter and swoons in equal measure!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This was a really fun read, I smiled and laughed so many times while reading this. I think that sometimes it can be tough when books are rooted in the world as we know it but have fantasy in them, but this worked well. I liked the characters a lot, both individually and as a couple. Alex was a character that felt so familiar to me, I really loved seeing her character growth within this. Devin was harder to like initially, but he did charm me. I was worried about the age gap, but because of where the characters both were in life I feel like I didn't even notice. I also think that the werewolf elements were well done, and I’m glad that there was no knotting lol

This might be my new favorite Rosie Danan book! Did she just beat The Roommate?! Fan Service serves, well…. everything, haha! Its a compelling story with great characters and a beautiful romance! Really hope to explore more of this world in the future cause I don’t wanna say goodbye to them! Another great book, I highly recommend!

Devin, an actor in a former supernatural series, discovers he might actually be a werewolf. How do you find out where to get help with your new supernatural abilities? You find Alex, the moderator of a popular website following the television series, since this is where the most werewolf information lives. Though they appear totally different, an actor and a goth girl, both our lead characters suffer from insecurities from parental trauma growing up and keep folks at a distance. But their connection to The Arcane Files brings them together as they try to get some control over Devin's werewolf situation before the next full moon. I loved the complex characters in this novel, as well as Alex's surrounding friends and family.

5/5 no notes
Absolutely hilarious, perfectly spicy, exciting, and heart wrenching. I was kicking my feet and giggling and also didn’t want it to end
This is perfect for AO3 stans and any fangirls who had a crush on Tyler Posey in 2011 when he played Scott McCall in Teen Wolf. This book makes me mourn the loss of my tumblr page
Incredible characterization of the “washed out celebrity who has a shit ton of emotional baggage”

They say never meet your heroes but what if your hero turns into a werewolf? Nerdy FMC using nerdy fandom knowledge to help the star get his life in order now that he's a werewolf? HERE FOR IT. Yes, please, and thank you.

I was ready and excited for a campy, fun, paranormal romp. And while the set up definitely seemed to be going in that direction, somewhere around the 30% mark it just got really bogged down and didn’t really recover.
For one, I couldn’t buy into the characters are adults in their mid thirties and early forties respectively. Devin was even previously married but was so aggressively stunted emotionally, he felt like a young frat boy that felt so embarrassing and frankly offputting. He was also quite abrasive and fairly cruel with Alex that I just didn’t see how he was ever falling for her.
As for Alex, while I love that she’s a sharp and blunt black cat type, I did find her obsession with the show and Devin very offputting. It felt like a very off power imbalance when she first met him and it continues to feel that way when they meet again as adults. I just couldnt buy it.
Maybe because I was never into a fandom like that or into anything like teen wolf, but it felt like this spent so much time as an homage to early 2000s paranormal shows than the characters and romance. Overall it was fine but quite snoozy. Many thanks for my netgalley e-arc!

In the beginning I didn’t find Devin charming or loveable. A few parts made me laugh out loud but overall he was just an insufferable man child. While I’m sure that was the point he was quite literally middle aged and that was a huge turn off.
Overall the story is very well written but I didn’t totally feel the chemistry. Overall I had fun reading it though!!

spent an entire day - when I should have been doing a lot of other things....reading this delightful book! Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be ordering it for my store

This one was fun. I liked the breakdown of fandoms more than anticipated. Likely anyone who delved deep into any fandom would also appreciate and probably like the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for the e-Arc!

This book had me so invested, I love the warewolf/human story line. It was a great story and one I think everyone needs to read. It was for sure a romantasy that I will be purchasing.

This was enjoyable. Lots of fun! It will be particularly enjoyable, in my opinion, for people who grew up with fandom or fanfic. It was a fantastic beginning to Halloween month, and I must admit that I enjoy a fresh interpretation of werewolf mythology! It was a fast-paced read, as is typical of Rosie Danan's stories, which are always entertaining and captivating! Additionally, it reminded me of Buffy, but with werewolves, which is always a good thing. Overall, a lot of fun!
