“Colby fought his wolf’s urges all the time. In the lore of The Arcane Files, your wolf was like an extra-feral version of your id, animal instincts kicked into turbogear, constantly oriented toward maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain. Your wolf wanted what you wanted deep down, only more. Never in a million years would Devin have guessed that the terrible beast of his nightmares would want….her.”

In 2008, my world was overtaken by Twilight. Fast forward to 2011, Teen Wolf came on the screen, and so began my obsession with the paranormal. When I read the blurb for this story, I was so excited because it felt like it was I was going to be able to feel the excitement I felt when I began reading Twilight. I truly expected Rosie Danan to deliver, and I had high hopes since she has written some really great stories. Sadly instead of itching to pick it up and read, I could barely make it through this if I’m being honest.

Devin Ashwood, child star of The Arcane Files, still acts like a childish man-boy in his 40s. There is absolutely no way that anyone can convince me this man was 42 and had previously been married. He acted like he got stuck at 21 and never matured emotionally at all. Sometimes he was downright cruel to Alex, and I thought she acted like a doormat for letting him treat her this way. I thought, oh well maybe he is going to grovel at the end and redeem himself or sacrifice himself for this woman, but that didn’t happen. He just gave me the ick.

Alex was better than he was, but I just felt like she was all these clichés about a goth woman thrown together just to make sure you knew that she was a goth girl. These characters felt uninteresting and unoriginal for such a unique plot. I really thought we were going to get something special here, but it was disappointing.

I did enjoy the side characters, Alex’s friends, and her dad, and there were glimmers of hope that this could have been great. Some of the dialogue was funny and witty, but these things were just not enough to make up for the very glaring problems that it had.

If you’re a fan of Lana Ferguson or Hannah Grace, then this would work better for you than it did for me.

At the start of reading this book, it seemed like I wasn’t going to be that into it.
The way that both Alex and Devin talked was so indicative of them trying to be really cool while being at an age where they don’t need to talk that way, 34 and 42 respectively. There were a lot of real world references, which can be fun in moderation, but it just came across as being kind of weird that they were trying to sound so relevant, but also being able to talk about stuff from their past that would be dated to the younger generation now.
It was a little bit much but thankfully it died down near the middle of the book and it all started getting more emotional and real, showing how much they really needed and could relate to each other.

There’s something about a Rosie Danan book that just HITS RIGHT!

Let me start this with I’m not the biggest shifter romance girly, but boy did I fall in love with this story! I mean, you get not only the shifter but also the celebrity romance, the fandoms, and the underdog-saves-the-day storyline!

The entire time I was reading this I was hooked. I was laughing and enthralled. I loved the way Rosie set up the story as Devin suddenly shifting into a werewolf just like he used to play on TV, but no one believes him—they all think it’s a publicity stunt. At least until he meets Alex, a former fangirl who used to run one of the online fan forums for his show.

I loved the bond and trust they formed while trying to put Devin through similar trials he had to face on his TV show as a way to learn how to control his inner wolf…but I think I loved how the entire experience shaped his perspective of the world and those around him. We get a glimpse of him from when he was younger…and he wasn’t someone worth swooning over. But now? Yeah, let’s just say he’s changed lol. Or at least, he’s getting there.

I will say that the ages threw me off though. While I was reading I thought they were in their 20s, maybe early 30s…but for Alex to be in her 30s and Devin to be in his 40s didn’t feel representative of how they behaved.

That said, I absolutely LOVED the audiobook and couldn’t put it down. Aaron Shedlock and Brittany Pressley did a great job in this dual narration. I do think it was one that could have benefitted from a duet, but even still, I loved every moment!

Check this one out if you enjoy:
- Slow burn
- Forced proximity
- Florida setting
- Former fangirl x celebrity
- Underdog saves the day
- Fandom
- Age gap
- Shifter romance / paranormal
- Found family
- Small town

This book was so much fun!
I adored all the fanfic references, this was probably my favourite part.
This had me all up in the nostalgia for my Buffy obsession days and I was here for it!
Obsessed with a tv show, star struck moments, fanfic friendships and weird paranormal happenings make this a stellar read.
Oh and there is some kissing stuff too.
Much love to NetGalley & Berkley Publishing Group for my ARC!

Read If You Like:
- Paranormal romance with a humorous twist
- Explorations of fandom culture
- Opposites-attract dynamics
- Stories about personal transformation
- Flawed, relatable characters

Alex Lawson, a small-town outcast, spends her time moderating an online fan forum for The Arcane Files, a beloved werewolf detective show. When Devin Ashwood, the show’s former star, begins experiencing real-life transformations mirroring his on-screen character, Alex’s deep knowledge of the fandom suddenly becomes crucial. Forced into an uneasy partnership, the two navigate a journey filled with mystery, unexpected romance, and self-discovery.

This story blends humor, romance, and the supernatural in a way that feels fresh and engaging. Alex is a relatable protagonist, passionate yet guarded, while Devin’s reluctant acceptance of his strange circumstances adds both comedic and emotional depth. The story captures the highs and lows of fandom culture, exploring what it means to love a fictional world while facing the unpredictability of real life.

With witty dialogue, pop culture nods, and an endearing opposites-attract dynamic, this is a charming and offbeat take on paranormal romance. Fans of stories that embrace both the weird and the heartfelt will find much to enjoy.

Thanks to Berkley for my ARC!

Picked this up expecting Scott McCall from Teen wolf and instead got a mangy wolf man with rabies. The way he was described gave me the ick and I don’t love when the girl idolizes the guy and he couldn’t care less about her. Not the vibe.

Cute paranormal romance that I truly was not expecting to love the way I did. I didn’t care for some of the language in the beginning of the book but overall enjoyed this one.

Thank you to Berkley Romance for the free book and to PRH Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.

This was such fun and exactly the kind of book I enjoy from Rosie Danan. As a teen, Alex loved The Arcane Files and became the archivist for the biggest fan site. Devin starred in the show as a werewolf. It's been off the air for years, and his career has tanked. And now he thinks he might be turning into a werewolf for real.

It is absolutely outlandish and such a good time. I loved thinking about all of the shows I enjoyed as a kid and which ones I would want the weird myths to come true. Or really not want to come true.

At the same time, I was impressed with the depth. Devin was a child star, and it really dug into how that can be a kind of trauma. Similarly, Alex's character arc was fantastic. Overall, this was so fun and funny while also tackling some really important issues.

Brittany Pressley is one of my favorite ever narrators. I choose audiobooks just because she narrates them. And so I did listen to this more than read it with my eyes. Aaron Shedlock joined her in providing excellent narration for the audio format.

Thank you so much to Berkley Romance for the free copy of the book & the ebook!

This book is out now!

Fan Service was such a fun and unique story! I love the aspect of the fandom and how the art came to life. I will admit that via audio I was a little confused in the beginning but once I started to tandem read, everything had clicked into place.

The audiobook was narrated by Aaron Shedlock and Brittany Pressley. I have loved both of their narrations on other projects and this one was no exception. They helped bring Alex and Devin to life in their respective POVs.

One thing I thought was so cool of Rosie to do with the FMC Alex is made her appearance not so stereotypical. She is a goth girl who has a gap front teeth and grew up being told she was a “freak”. I felt bad in the very beginning that she had this tainted moment with her tv crush that just about ruined her.

Devin has been so jaded by Hollywood that coming to Florida really opened him up and also turning into a wolf would do that to you. I love that even after his initial freak out about turning into a wolf he really wanted to try to learn how to control himself.

I love how Alex & Devin worked together to get a handle on this change and how they were able to relay it back to the tv show. On the outside they don’t seem like they would go together but it worked! I like that they were able to connect on deeper levels and Alex learned why he was the way he was when she met him all those years before.

This was not my favorite of Rosie's works (and that's okay!) but I love that she was able to continue to explore the paranormal genre. My struggles with this book could very well be me because of the paranormal aspect of it (it perhaps is not for me?). I also was missing the lack of spice which normally is fine but knowing what Rosie has done in the past I was just anticipating more. I know Rosie's next book will also be a paranormal rom com and just because I'm such a fan of her, I will be checking it out!

I did love how Rosie incorporated forums and how true friendships form from those that you meet in these forums. I know I still chat with people who I met in a TRL (yes you read that right as in Total Request Live) form when I was 13!

Just because this wasn't a complete homerun for me, doesn't mean that it won't be for you! If you are interested in fandoms and werewolves - give this one a read!

The premise??? I love it. Alex is living out the dream of every teenager that was part of a fandom. Such a fun idea, but the execution was…okay. Devin’s arc was more stunted than it felt like it should have been. Rosie did a great job writing him as one of those out-of-touch actors, he was very unlikable at first. I loved Alex. She was so cool and deserved better than Devin, even at his best. Three stars given for her, the premise, and the fun I had reading.

Silly, fun, and a love letter to fandoms, online friends, and egotistical child actors. Read with a dose of suspension of disbelief, this is basically a fanfic, and I mean that as a compliment.

Oh, wow, was this book a blast! Alex Lawson is a jaded fandom online mod who was burned by her favorite character’s actor- and crush- at 17. When Devin Ashwood (the very same actor) ends up having some very strange things happen to him that mirror his former character’s life, the only one that can help him is Alex - after all, she is an expert on what he’s going through.

This was campy and so, so fun. The spice is so good, and I just adored these two and how they - eventually - brought out the best in each other. Devin was a hot mess early on but worked hard to do better for himself and for Alex.

For fans of paranormal romance, the heyday of the WB/CW, and black cat/golden retriever vibes, Fan Service needs to be on your TBR this spring!

I really enjoyed this entertaining paranormal romance. It’s a shout out to the fan communities that supported so many different shows with their fanfic and blogs.

Alex was the enthusiastic Mod of The Arcane Files fan forum, while Devin starred in the series as a werewolf who never turned completely but kept some of his human qualities. When real life Devin suspects he might be actually shifting, he finds Alex online and goes to see her in FL.

When the werewolf plot started playing out, I thought it was too gimmicky but as it developed I was interested in reading about the inner turmoil they suffered. Both Alex and Devin had difficult childhoods that had a huge effect on how their lives turned out. Steamy and fun, 4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was such a fun book! I loved the fan and actor combo and how it felt like a Buffy type show with the fandom. There were fan theories and fic.
But what happens when the actor gets older and Hollywood doesn’t want them anymore. But with a here’s actually turning into a werewolf like his character. Loved how he went to fan forum for his show and asked the mod for help.
These two were very imperfect and didn’t make the best choices or right choices right away, but they got their eventually.
Loved the trials they used to get him to control the wolf based off the show.
They had a lot of chemistry and his wolf was very protective of her. Loved that he loved and tracked her scent and could pick up her emotions from the change in her scent.

✨ Review ✨ Fan Service by Rosie Danan

Thanks to Berkley and #netgalley for the gifted advanced copy/ies of this book!

Alex Lawson built the ultimate fan forum for The Arcane Files, but had her love of the main actor destroyed after she met him at a con. Years later, Devin, the actor, has turned into an actual werewolf and needs Alex’s help. He shows up in her small FL town and pays her for vast fan knowledge of werewolf lore.

This is absurd and ridiculous but in such a fun and delightful way. It's got amazing tropes: fake dating, forced proximity, campy paranormal, yes please! But the premise is also just sort of silly, and you have to be willing to suspend all disbelief.

I loved that Alex grew throughout this story, coming to trust the people around her in new ways with the help of Devin. And, I appreciated how we found new depths in Devin here too. Ultimately, all of the werewolfiness was just a blast to read!

If Rosie Danan writes it, I’m going to read it and I’m going to love it! Fan Service finds washed up Hollywood heartthrob Devin Ashwood in a bit of a pickle. The former star of The Arcane Files, a supernatural werewolf detective show, might just be turning into a wolf for real, so he enlists the help of Alex Lawson, the mod of an online forum for TAF fans, to help guide him through his new transformation.

Fan Service is an ode to fandom — pure campy fun! I come from the fandom community and can confirm that Danan nailed the experience of being in the online trenches! This book was a blast and reminded me a bit of Fang Fiction, another fandom-centered book which I adored. It’s steamy and quirky, a cozy delight of a novel.

Alex is such a well crafted character and I fell in love with her from page one! She’s different than lead characters I’m used to seeing in contemporary romances. She’s jaded, and standoffish, having been burned one too many times. Despite that, she hasn’t lost her desire to seek out joy or feel accepted. As we see her slowly unfurl and gain back her confidence, I felt so proud that a character like her existed. A self-proclaimed fangirl myself, I saw the same unbridled passion I have felt mirrored in her. It is so important to love the things you love loudly and Alex is a clear reminder of that sentiment.

(Minor spoiler ahead), my only gripe was that we never really got any answers about the origin of Devin’s condition. I had a couple of predictions due to indications that were made in the text but none of them ended up coming to fruition. The origin of his affliction ended up not playing a factor in the plot so no harm, no foul — I just thought it was being set up to be bigger than it was.

Fan Service is perfect for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Lana Ferguson’s paranormal romances and as a fangirl 'til the day I die, I want more stories showcasing this crazy, beautiful community!

Thank you Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was ridiculous but so much fun! The author uses a lot of pop culture/social media references which kind of takes you out of the story when you read them - but that’s just a personal preference. Either way, I had a good time. The characters are deeply flawed but lovable, and the representation of what it's like to be entrenched in a fandom was spot on.

Devin was the star of the long-running werewolf detective TV series, The Archane Files, and has felt lost ever since the show ended. Alex is an outcast living in her small town who found a community in the fandom of TAF, where she was better known as The Mod, the internet archivist for the show. She WAS Devin’s biggest fan until a meet and greet gone bad has her wishing she'd never met him. Now years after the show has ended, Devin is experiencing some strange symptoms and suddenly has claws, fangs, and a supernaturally strong sense of smell. He figures the only way to find answers is to call up the expert, and so Alex begrudingly agrees (for a large sum of money). We then get a hilarious and hot tale, perfect for any Dean Winchester fans who read a little too much fan fiction.

This book was such a wild ride! I’ve only read one other from Rosie, but I really need to fix that. I find her books are so good for a fast-paced, fun read that gives you both sweet and spicy!

Alex is such a black cat character. She doesn’t really have friends in town, in fact many people in town are bullies to her, her two closest friends are people she met through the archive (yay for internet friends!), and she spends most of her time working or with her dad, who needs help with his declining health. Devin is a golden retriever who is a bit aloof at times; very much a hollywood star who needed to have his eyes opened a bit. But his wolf is FERAL for Alex. He is so obsessed with her, so even while they try to keep things professional, his wolf has other plans. This book had me SQUEALING with some of the scenes where the wolf came out to play! I loved how their relationship developed over time, and really just had such a fun time with this book!

I did this one as a mix of audio and physical, and the narrators were fantastic! Brittany Pressley and Aaron Shedlock really nailed these characters, and this is one that I wish had been done in duet because I think their chemistry reading together would have made the audio even better than it was! They did such a good job capturing the characters emotions and their inflection and tone had me laughing and feeling everything with Devin and Alex!

If you’re looking for a sweet, spicy, and laugh-out-loud funny book, this one is for you!

Rosie’s writing never fails for me! I love the way she tells a story, and this one was SO fun. I adored Alex’s black cat energy, she’s such a fun character. She’s literally living my dream of falling in love with my favorite teenage heartthrob (maybe minus the wolf thing but also…maybe not?). The chemistry between these two was so good, and I love that they were both definitely flawed characters in their own ways but still so likeable (and well matched). Overall, such a fun read, and a total love letter to fandom-culture!

A massive thank you to Berkley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!!! 🥹
