I listened to the audio for this book - the audio was GREAT. Brittany Pressley is my favorite female narrator so this was no exception. The story was cute, campy, quirky, fast, and had the perfect amount of heat. I cackled a few times at the interaction between the two characters. The FMC is extremely relatable to a millennial girl who had a handful of supernatural tv show obsessions growing up/through college. It's a story sort of about fanfic - but make it adult - and add an NDA. This is my first book by this author and I am looking forward to trying more. The paranormal/supernatural elements in a very normal realistic world is a GREAT combo for romcoms.

As a teen, Alex ran a wildly popular forum for the hit werewolf detective show The Arcane Files. Her love for the show (and star, Devin Ashwood), however, came crashing down at a con when she overheard comments Devin made behind her back — as the saying goes, never meet your heroes. Now in her 30s, Alex works for a vet, takes care of her dad, still has those fandom besties, and NEVER spares a good thought for the man who broke her heart all those years ago.

Devin has seen better days. A failed marriage and having peaked on a teen werewolf show have left him struggling to move on. Things go from bad to worse when he finds himself — multiple times — waking naked outside with no memories of the night before. And when a viral video shows him with suspiciously realistic fangs and claws, howling at the moon, he turns to the only person who can help make sense of it: the moderator of a long-dead fan site.

FAN SERVICE is just that: a love letter to fandom. With shout outs and callbacks to LiveJournal, ship wars, and AO3, fangirls present and past will feel right at home in these pages. I had such a blast with this one — giggly and giddy and the paranormal element was so fun.

If the book had any faults it was with Devin’s age. He’s 42, just 6 years older than me, but the book practically puts him on death’s door. SO. MANY. comments and remarks about being an ‘actor of a certain age,’ he’s middle-aged, he’s aged out of roles, too old, etc. Come on, y’all. 42 is not ancient — and as a leading action star, any other man in Hollywood would just be getting started.

I went into this book completely blind (as per usual for me) and I thought it was a fun read! I don’t like to give away too much in my reviews, but I’m always up for a forced proximity and slow burn book trope! Plus anything with a bit of enemies to lovers type vibe!

“Fandom was everything when you were in it and embarrassing as hell when you weren’t.”

Paranormal, fantasy romance is right up my alley so I was very excited to read this! Plus, this cover is so cool and almost nostalgic. I would describe this as silly, fun, charming, and cheesy in a great way. As a 90's baby who grew up watching Teen Wolf and many other CW shows in the early 2000's, this felt like a love letter to fandoms, and the fandom aspect of this book is what shines.

Thank you, Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley, for the free e-arc of Fan Service by Rosie Danan.

Did you hear the barking? That was me reading this absolute banger of a book. Rosie Danan I love you!!!!

'Fan Service' is cute. I did really enjoy the fandom love in this and our FMC Alex, it felt very nostalgic. Unfortunately, the MMC Devin is not my favorite. He's pretty one-note. Even though he certainly has backstory and reasons to be interesting, he's just not. There's very little romantic about him and it was hard to actually buy into the romance. Alex was great but I think she deserved better than Devin.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 - I really wanted to love this, but this was painful to get through & I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

No way is the MMC a believable 42 year old. Dude is a complete tool. Washed up actor who is incredibly rude to the FMC at a convention at the very beginning.

The amount of times COVID was mentioned in this book was honestly astounding. The plus was that there was no knotting for a romance with a werewolf.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book had everything I needed in a werewolf romance! I had so much fun reading listening to the audiobook. I fear rosiedanan has me spiraling and picking up every werewolf romance I can find! This is for the fan girls and werewolf lovers!!!

Alex is a former fan girl of a werewolf tv show she met Devin the tv leading actor when she was younger and he unknowingly insults her. Years later the tv show is over and Devin’s career isn’t doing too well and he wakes up randomly in the woods near his home naked. Devin isn’t sure what’s going but he thinks he’s turning into a werewolf he stumbles across this blog that’s actually run by Alex. He’s convince Alex can help him and his werewolf problem . He begs for help and the two try to figure out what exactly is happening to him.

I ate this book up and it left me wanting more I also think the narrators did such a great job! This is the perfect read for spooky season and werewolf lovers all around. This book definitely took me out of my slump.

Thank you @berkleypub for the e-arc

I would like to thank the publisher, Netgalley, and the author for the ARC of this book. I read an advanced copy of this book, so the final edition of the book might be slightly different. All thoughts and opinions are my own, as always.

I’ve been getting back into paranormal romance a bit lately. A few years back I think I’d just had too much of it, but I’m starting to appreciate it a bit more again. All these new releases have been helping, though not all have been winners.

Fan Service is an interesting one for me because while I did have fun and generally enjoyed this, it wasn’t a standout favorite. I think just a few things were missing, or some things I wish would have been developed or explored further. In the end, I think this book ended up being more about the fandom side of the story than the paranormal side. I do think it did tackle fandom well, both the feeling of being deep in fandom and the obsession that comes with it and how that feeling matures as you grow older too. It explored how there continues to be this connection with the fandoms you were in growing up, even if you’re no longer as into that media anymore.

The beginning of this romance was pretty slow, and it took a while for the tension to start building. While this did mean it took me longer to get into the book, I do think it was essential for the romance and relationship developing between Alex and Devin. There was also just a lot of groundwork that needed to be done for both the werewolf plot and for trust to begin building between the two MCs, and the slow beginning helped the entire plot feel more real and believable.

Unfortunately, I think the ending was a little fast for me and I don’t think the core issues that Alex and Devin had (both as individuals and as a couple) were properly resolved before giving them their happy ending. The solutions, while they had been pretty obvious to me from the beginning, felt like they were suddenly reached by the end, without the character development fully getting to that point yet. It meant my frustration from the third-act breakup didn’t have enough time to disappear before we suddenly saw them happy together at the end.

Overall, though, I did still enjoy Fan Service and I plan to give this author’s other books a try soon!

This is a pretty fun story with its paranormal twist but also pretty funny as it isn't taking itself too seriously as I find many of the PN books do. It followed the plot of most rom-coms and was a nice tale. I read one of Danan's previous titles that was spicier, but it was set in the porn industry so it may have come by that level naturally. This one is tamer in comparison but still moderately spicy. If you're a fan of rom-coms, Wolverine, and werewolves, you'll likely enjoy it.

Alex Lawson is a Florida outcast and a former moderator for a fan site dedicated to The Arcane Files. Enter Devin Ashwood — the actor from her beloved show, a man she once adored, wrote about, and analyzed for the site. While Devin was once a big name in Hollywood, his career is now floundering. When his real life starts to mirror his character’s paranormal experiences, he turns to Alex for help. Together, they must navigate their roles as fans, heartthrobs, and… possibly werewolves.

Now, let me get this out of the way — I do not like werewolf fiction. But I adored this novel. It perfectly straddles the line between paranormal and romance without getting too bizarre, and the plot is just right. I was hooked from page one! The chemistry between Alex and Devin is fantastic, and I loved the Florida setting, Alex’s complex relationship with fandom, and the bittersweet realities of being part of that world. It’s cute, heartwarming, and campy in all the best ways.

I did struggle a bit with Devin’s shallowness at times, but I suspect that was intentional — a reflection of his child star upbringing. Also, the spice seemed uneven. There was a part where things got steamy and it never really returned, and it almost felt like it was missing something? I don’t know - just felt uneven? Even with those minor hiccups, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Rosie

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I freaking loved everything about this book. I'm a sucker for a werewolf story. Team Jacob forever. The characters are really well done and steamy scenes - extra steamy! Here for it.

I loved it! Right from the prologue I found myself very quickly invested in both main characters.

Alex is the ultimate fangirl for her favorite series, complete with an online presence and internet friends. I loved reading a character obsessed with a fandom in a way that so many of us can relate to. Alex’s keeping others at arms length to protect her heart was also really relatable to me. Devin on the other hand is definitely imperfect. He’s an actor whose career has gone stagnant, but I found his backstory compelling. We see him reflect on growing up in the spotlight, something many real-life child stars struggle with, and I thought it added so much depth to his character.

This could be a great entry point to paranormal romance! I thought the way Rosie Danan handled a werewolf storyline was really accessible to contemporary readers. If knotting isn’t your thing, don’t be afraid of this one because it’s not included here. Instead it focused on the emotions and conflicts that could come from becoming a werewolf, and I loved what that added to the story. There was lots of tension and longing from both characters, and the chemistry between Alex and Devin was HOT. The way Devin’s animalistic instincts played into their attraction was executed so well.

I stayed up way too late to finish it, I just didn’t want to put it down! If I didn't have a packed ARC schedule ahead of me, I'm pretty sure this book would've sent me into a full blown paranormal werewolf romance binge. I had such a great time reading Fan Service and I highly recommend checking it out!

Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5)
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧 (0-5)
Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (0-5)
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥☄️ (0-5) safe words and restraints, but it’s all very mild.

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 Fabulous romcom audiobook entertainment! The narrators are cast so well and Aaron Shedlock embraces his wolf shifter wonderfully.
🤩 Favorite quote: “I don’t know if it was the moon fate or the universe that made me a werewolf, but, baby, you made me human.”
🤩 Paranormal, age gap.
🤩 Devin becomes a wolf shifter after years of playing one on TV.
🤩 Alex used to be his superfan, until he unknowingly broke her heart, and she became his lead basher.
🤩 The Arcane Files, wiki articles, and the Mod fan archive—so clever and fun!
🤩 Evolved senses and all the wolf shifter assessments and experiments.
🤩 Unwanted, surprise attraction.
🤩 I adore their constant banter and how their chemistry builds so beautifully.
🤩 Oh, wow, the dirty talk is fantastic! The steamy scenes are just so perfectly part of the plot and so hot yet intimate.
🤩 Sometimes I don’t like chasing scenes, but this one definitely worked on me.
🤩 Beautiful, natural, and supportive LGBTQIA+ representation.
🤩 Really great endometriosis representation.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 Do I wish that last intimate scene after the drama would have had the door wide open? Yes, I do. But did I still feel their intimacy and HEA? Yep, it worked on me.
💫 Knotting would have been fun.

Devin “you know I got that dog in me” Ashwood needs to grow tf up.

Alex “attachment issues black cat” Lawson also needs to grow tf up.

I was so excited to read this book… excited enough that I have an Afterlight copy on its way in the mail….

I didn’t enjoy much about this story. The first half of the book was better than the last half, but not by much. I thought the characters were shallow and undeveloped, the plot was all over the place, and why the hell is a 42 year old FICTIONAL man somehow worse and more immature than a man in real life? Books just aren’t an escape anymore 😩

I was looking forward to the idea of like a “Teen Wolf” and fangirl type of romance, but as an actual Teen Wolf fan and AO3 reader (which Danan never explains what AO3 even IS so if you know you know I guess?) this was sorely disappointing.

Things I did like about this book: when it was over. SORRY!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read for me and had just the right mix of over-the-topness and hit-too-close-to-homeness. It was sweet, and sad, and hilarious all at once. If you were a fan of any paranormal/sci-fi TV series and hope for happy endings for the actors, this might be a book for you.

Cute story. Obviously a previous fanfiction fiction but ultimately a fun read. It was engaging and entertaining.

Why was this book so fun?!

I had such a good time with this one! This is the perfect book if you are wanting to dip your toes into the paranormal romance genre, or if you’re just looking for something different than your usual romcom!

Devin & Alex’s chemistry was amazing and I absolutely loved how they understood each other. Their banter was top tier and the slow burn was slow burning!!

I thought this was an extremely well thought out story without it being too complicated. It kept me engaged from start to finish.

Highly recommend this one! Some trips features are:

🐺 paranormal romance
📸 celebrity romance
🖤 age gap (she’s 34 & he’s 42)
🐈‍⬛ black cat x golden retriever
🫂 he takes care of her
🏡 found family

What happens when a former television star from a supernatural detective series starts to actually turn into a werewolf? Devon Ashwood, former star of The Achane Files turns to Alex, the mod of an online fan forum for The Archane Files, for help. Armed with her fandom and supernatural knowledge, she helps Devin complete a series of Werewolf Trials to keep the wolf in him at bay. What she didn't expect was for her youth crush and attraction to him to come back in full force.

This book was such a great time! I had so much fun with it, highlighting all of the snarky and tender moments. Devin was such an interesting mmc as a washed out 40 year old actor who is undeniably attracted to Alex, covered in tattoos and piercings and such a good person at heart. I definitely recommend this one.

Thank you NetGalley, Berkley, and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fan Service is ridiculous fun! Its a bit campy, but in a good way! Lonely internet moderator meets real life TV star...who might be a real werewolf.

Devin is a 'has been' star of a paranormal tv show and Alex is the fan who maintained the shows wiki. When he starts displaying "symptoms" of being a werewolf, he hops on a plane to see her and get some help. I loved this whole set up-maybe its because paranormal shows like Supernatural and Buffy were my jam back in the day? These two are just hilarious and perfect. Overall, I enjoyed this a great deal and it was a nice break from heavier reads. This is a fun weekend binge for sure.

I also listened to the audio of Fan Service and Aaron Shedlock and Brittany Pressley do a fantastic job! They really added to the fun of the story.
