You have to go in knowing that this premise is ridiculous, and that at the end of the day it's the fantasy of a fan and the leading actor falling in love.

Devin Ashwood spent 13 years playing a werewolf on TV, can't let go of the idea of a reboot, and then suddenly starts turning into an actual werewolf. While looking for help in any corner of the internet, he ends up on the fandom archive for his show and gets in touch with the Mod - Alex Lawson. She grew up with a crush on Devin/his character, while also sort of hating him for reasons you'll learn about in the book. Despite her reservations, she agrees to help him.

His wolf REALLY likes Alex, and it makes Devin set aside pre-conceived notions about fans and fandom to get to know her. They connect on many levels, having some shared issues with abandonment and isolation, and find that in addition to her believing him and caring for him, they might be something as real as a werewolf.

I've seen some of the criticisms around Devin that he's immature and kind of rude, and while that's true, what we learn about Devin is that he was a child actor and conditioned to believe that his ability to perform and be what people wanted was the only way for him to get any love or attention. He never got to have a childhood so making an actual transition to adulthood without ever learning anything other than bending himself to be what others want, to book the next job, to be famous...yeah he's going to be a jerk sometimes and not realize it, or not know how to correct it. This is not a hero who grovels, but you like him anyway.

devin ashwood starred as a werewolf on the hit tv show, 'the arcane files'. alex lawson used to be 'the arcane files' biggest fan, running a super detailed fan website for the show. they say you should never meet your heroes ...

this story was so fun and flirty, with spice and heart too!
i fell for devin's charm and confidence and i resonated with alex's surliness and black cat vibes.

ive now read 3/4 of Rosie's books and she can do no wrong imho!!!

Fan Service by Rosie Danan is a paranormal fantasy rom-com. While not my usual genre, it did hold my interest once I got into the story. The prologue, taking us back seventeen years, set the stage.

Alex and Devin have nothing in common except the show he once starred in for thirteen seasons. Alex was the moderator of a blog that focused on everything and anything related to the show The Arcane Files. Devin played the human FBI partner to a werewolf detective who also had a vampire archnemesis/queerbait pseudo-love interest. Even though the show went off the air decades before, it still had a following. When Alex and Devin plan to meet in her small town, where she’s a misfit without friends, she reluctantly agrees to help him.

We get to see her life and come to understand how they gravitate towards each other. But they have secrets and miscommunicate over and over again. Devin needs Alex’s help, and she needs the money he’s willing to pay her. But they seem to be better together than apart, except when he manages to hurt her feelings, which is often. But he does come to her rescue more than once and proves himself to her, her dad, and the townspeople. As he fights his werewolf tendencies and tries to embrace them, she helps him and grounds him.

Several stories are in the mix, and we get to know Alex and Devin a little at a time. Both have layers but seem to get the other like no one else. They’ve both had disappointments in their lives and open up about the difficulties they’ve faced. The story has a good pace, and we’re introduced to many secondary characters, including some who are not so likable. While the story sometimes stretched its limits, there was also a romance brewing that was often sweet and, other times, steamy. The epilogue gives some closure, but I would have preferred it to be a little longer and have a few more details.

Fan Service showcases paranormal elements, caring, and compassion. Alex and Devin seem more comfortable in their skin and lives when they work together for a common goal.

This is an interesting romance with a nod to werewolves, TV shows featuring werewolves, and their fandoms. I enjoyed Alex and her determination to help. Devin is a bit immature for his age and a little hard to take at times. I did find the story entertaining and as it's not my usual thing it was intriguing to see how it was going to work out. The audiobook is well done and the narrators make it a great way to read this love story.

Millennial era online fandom dreams come true in this one, and it requires so much suspension of disbelief, but it's a lot of fun! Steamy, over the top, and weirdly charming.

Review Title & Vibes:
{I AM A FAN} this was a blast to immersive read! I was a CW show girlie back in the day and loved the nostalgic/fangirl vibes. The premise to so fun! Devin former werewolf-actor turns into an ACTUAL werewolf. Alex, formerly Devin’s biggest fan-turned-scorned-archive-moderator becomes his real life love interest! Together they navigate his new werewolf characteristics while trying to pull his acting career back from its downward spiral. Devin’s presence adds much needed clout and financial backing to projects dear to Alex. Excellent character/relationship growth. Believable 3rd-act drama. A fantastic fandom read!

This has all my favorite elements:
-tension/banter
-possessive/supportive MMC
-quirky/alt FMC
-fantastic side characters (gotta love the internet bringing besties together)
-spicy spicy scenes (call it training but that chase & chair scene 🔥)

Audio Notes:
{DUAL} Aaron and Brittany smashed this performance! Brittany was edgy - playing the outsider former fangirl with flare. Aaron rocked the nearly washed-up but still sexy actor turned werewolf. The banter was perfectly timed and the spicy scenes smoldering. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Recommended to...
Fandom readers who wouldn’t mind their favorite show becoming reality!

Ever since The Roommate, I've been quite a fan of Rosie Danan. Her writing is like a breath of fresh air and she always creates the most original story, in my opinion. That's why when I first saw her having a new book coming this year, I jumped right into the opportunity to read it. Interestingly, I enjoyed this book more than I expected. Honestly, I was never a fandom/fanfic (fanfiction) kind of gal, nor was I a fan of werewolves/vampires, both of which played an important role in this book. Therefore, for a second I was worried I wouldn't like where this story was going. Thankfully, Teen Wolf happened to be one of the very, very few TV series I really liked so this book was sort of the written version of that TV show, bringing me back to the happy ol' childhood time. Anyways, Fan Service was not what I had in mind at all, especially when real werewolves were involved, but it was still an enjoyable surprise. That being said, I would totally recommend this book to anyone who adored werewolves, shape shifters, and breathed for fandom/fanfic.

This was so much fun. Disclaimer, if you like those REAL shifter books, you might not enjoy this lol But if you’re still a newcomer like me, you might love this as much as I did. And that is a hill I’m willing to perish on lol

Ok so the reason I said that is because I went through and read some of the reviews on Goodreads and there were ALOT angry lol So I went back and looked at my notes like did we read the same book? lol But then I realized that they were looking for the like super shifter books. lol Meanwhile, I was just looking for a good time. And that’s exactly what it was. For me, this was fun. It had most of the wolf lore which I loved, and the fan girl life that I deeply related to. There’s also mention of endometriosis rep and I loved seeing that in a book. Granted all they said was that her cramps were really bad, but that’s a legit symptom, but they didn’t go into much detail about it.

The characters in this were my favorite thing. Devin was an a-hole, but I chalked it up to the weirdness that he was going through. Especially once they figured out what happened when they first met. But there were also some places where I was like “REALLYYYYYY?” But even still, I thought this was fun. And like, the entire time I actually felt sorry for him. Because Lordt knows the way people were acting towards him and the basketball game thing was whewwwww. It was…. Not great. As for Alex, I enjoyed her. I can honestly say I related to her on a deep level. As someone who’s part of MANY fandoms, I loved this part about her. I did worry about her tho. Because I don’t care how big of a fan I am, I am NOT going to help a guy who thinks he’s becoming a wolf lmao

As for the romance, they had a tough time to begin with, but as things went on, I thought it was sweet. I especially liked the way he was so territorial over her. I know it was the wolf, but it was sweet the way he clocked her scent and knew to help her when she needed it. And the way she loved him immediately was funny to me. We say we love our celebrity crushes all the time. But who MEANS it? Idk, I enjoyed seeing him fall for her, but I think I enjoyed seeing her love for him evolve even more.

Again, take this review with a grain of salt. I hope y’all take a chance and read it on your own. At the very least, let me know what you think of it. I hope y’all let me know what you think.

The fan & celeb romance I did not know I wanted! With just the right blend of rom com and fantasy elements, both the main characters stay true to themselves while also developing through their past trauma & other issues. As a mostly fantasy reader, I’ll admit I was waiting for some kind of bigger worldbuilding reveal about the werewolf transformation, but I enjoyed this book a lot nevertheless.

Despite living in the small town for 20 years, Alex has come to terms with forever being the loner girl and has made a home for herself with her dad. Content to spend her free time chatting with her old fandom friends and hiking with her teenage mentee, Alex is taken aback when she gets a message on her old forum for her favorite show following a werewolf detective. When she decides to meet up with the stranger, Alex is even more shocked to find the person is none other than Devin Ashwood, the show's former lead star, and he is claiming that he may be more like his character than they thought humanly possible.

This was a very fun and refreshing story! I loved the plot and how Alex and Devin had to work together to figure out what was happening to him. The two were very real and raw together, and I liked that they always reassured one another in their feelings and never strayed from the hard stuff. It was so sweet to watch their relationship blossom as they got to know each other and opened up. While Devin drove me crazy sometimes, I appreciated that he knew when to be transparent and honest with Alex while still finding his bearings as his life changed. Not to mention, I loved the trials and how the TV storyline played out with their unfolding romance. Overall, this was such a sweet and quirky slow-burn romance with just the right amount of humor, steam, and nostalgia!

This was such a fun read! Devin and Alex had great chemistry, and the premise was fascinating. I loved watching Devin navigate his newfound wolfishness in hopes of reclaiming his life.

Alex’s past in her small Florida hometown has made her an outcast. As a child, she used a fandom for a popular werewolf TV show to cope.

But she met Devin, the show’s star, as a teen, and he unknowingly broke her heart.

Now, the show is cancelled, Devin’s career is going down the tubes, and he has a PR nightmare in the form of videos showing him… howling? And were his nails turning into claws?!

He asks the Mod from his show’s fandom page for help to determine what is happening to him. And that turns out to be the last person who wants to help — Alex.

These characters felt so flawed and real, in the most relatable, loving ways.

Devin is having issues, being a washed-up child star, and Alex has been mistreated basically her whole life after her biologist dad released endangered wolves near their town.

This is peak paranormal romance with a Hollywood angle, a very grumpy FMC, and a ton of humor woven throughout.

I mean, I doubt Alex would want her story to be too sweet, anyway (but it’s absolutely swoon-worthy).

No spoilers, but this is one of the most unexpected, delightful romances I’ve read lately. I wouldn’t have guessed one bit of this book— and I wouldn’t change anything, either.

This is a standalone paranormal romance with humor, spice and a good storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be adding Rosie Danan to my must read list. I loved her writing style.

This book is not something I typically go for, but the cover is super fun, reminds me of Scooby Doo, and the description sounded so fun!

I did enjoy this book, there were chapters where I felt like I fell off it; but then there were chapters I devoured so fast! The whole concept of this book was really fun to read!

I think I have a werewolf thing going lately lol? I seem to be drawn to a wolfy man! Anyway…

The trials, the articles, and even the texts between the friend group were my favorite thing about this book! They had me laughing & wanting more!

This book releases March 11th! 🖤

alex is a former fan girl from a werewolf tv show fandom. devin is the former actor from the show who unknowingly insulted alex several years ago. when devin thinks he’s actually turning into a werewolf, he stumbles on alex’s fandom website and begs for her help. and the two of them try to figure out if he’s actuallyyyyyy transforming into a werewolf.

black cat x golden retriever is one of my fav set ups. alex is a a grumpy, tattooed social pariah in a small town in florida and when devin lands there for her help, she’s in shock. the two of them try to stay professional but devin’s inner wolf is OBSESSED with her. to the point he ends up in her house and striking a friendship with her dad.

this book was so much fun. it made me laugh out loud several times, and the slow burn reluctant friends to lovers had me so giddy. devin was so down bad for her. the chasing in the woods scene lives in my head rent freeeeee. this book is hilariously unserious!

🎧 aaron shedlock and brittany pressley read for alex and devin. they did such a great job with the narration. they captured their personalities so well and I really enjoyed reading it with my ears!

I love a story with a lot of character growth, and Devin sure learned a lot in this book. To be fair, Devin doesn’t even realize how terrible he comes across. It took me a while to get on board with this character because he is often awful, seeming to not think before he speaks. The thing is, Devin does think before he speaks. He thinks too much. He was trained to be a certain way in certain situations and to protect himself at all costs. In his mind, nobody is sincere or genuine so the things people say aren’t what they mean. This often has Devin saying things to Alex that are hurtful without him thinking that’s what he’s doing.

In the prologue, there are two sides of Devin shown. The reality is that he’s something in between. Nobody is perfect, but he’s also not needlessly cruel as seems to be the case. Of course, Alex doesn’t know that until almost two decades later and the impact of the moment has lasting effects on her. While Alex is a much more lovable and sympathetic character, Devin is the one who needs a hug.

There is much about this couple that I ended up liking once I got to know Devin. The problem I had was that it was so hard to remember that Devin was 42 years old. At eight years younger than him, the age gap between Alex and Devin isn’t very vast at this time of their lives, yet Alex was miles ahead of him in maturity. That’s fine if the story seems to be built to accommodate that, but I didn’t get the feeling Devin was supposed to seem so immature. Maybe emotionally, but not in the other ways. It took me out of the story every time I was reminded of his age or the age difference between the characters.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. Especially once I realized that the callous things Devin threw out in such an offhand manner were to protect himself, not to hurt Alex. He just couldn’t see beyond his own private bubble until it was almost too late.

This book was cute, funny, and heartfelt, and it was basically a love letter to every nerdy kid out there who’s ever been part of a fandom and made it their entire personality. Alex and Devin were tons of fun as the protagonists, and were the perfect example of opposites attract. She’s prickly, unapproachable, and closed off, and he’s charming, cocky, and earnest. They are both flawed and have so much baggage, and it was nice to read about people who were older (she’s in her 30s and he’s in his early 40s). I think this would be a great introductory book for people who want to try a werewolf romance for the first time, because it was primarily a romcom with tons of fandom references, and had a side plot of paranormal romance. It was a fun, quick read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've previously loved Rosie Danan books, but this one fell short for me. The female mc is fun and badass, whereas the male mc is a total jerk with bad behavior that never really gets explained away. I can't abide by a shitty dude.

Holy werewolf, I loved this book so much! The hilarious combination of a washed up, totally self-involved Hollywood heartthrob and the literal mod of the TV shows internet fandom, had me hooked. Not to mention the slow building chemistry and undeniable draw to one another.

Alex and Devin were such strong,
relatable character in their own ways. I’m not usually one for a redemption arc, but Rosie made me flip a switch from hating Devin to actually rooting for him. I loved their past and present stories!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was funny and spicy and I stayed up until 2am finishing it. I think if you like fanfiction then you’ll enjoy this book and its many references and nods to CW fandoms.

I’m not 100% sure how to categorize this book because while it quite obviously deals with a werewolf, it doesn’t at all feel like a paranormal romance. Maybe because there is one lone werewolf. But it very much felt like a meta, self insert, fanfic.

I loved Alex, a prickly baddie who tries to act aloof when she is really the biggest softie. Who else would help their celebrity arch nemesis through a werewolf transition?

I did like Devin, but I found it really hard to believe he was in his 40s. I feel like he could have been a bit younger and the plot would still make sense along with his maturity. I loved his growth and how genuinely upset he was when he learned how he hurt Alex in the past.

I think my biggest complaint is how are you going to have a werewolf romance with no knotting!
