Alex Lawson was the biggest fan of The Arcane Files and its hero, Devin Ashwood, all throughout her teens. When an encounter with Devin on her seventeenth birthday proved to her why you should never meet your heroes, she wrote him off as the worst. She still enjoyed her time in fandom with her closest friends from The Arcane Files forum, but was no longer a fan of the man himself. During a super rare blue moon, Devin has a strange encounter that has him seeking out his former show’s biggest fan for help. Only Alex truly knows enough about the fictional werewolf Devin once was to determine if he’s turning in to one for read.

I loved this! It’s such a fun and sexy mash-up of love letters to paranormal romance and fandom. I didn’t realize when I picked this up the direction it would go in, but I ended up loving the journey!

I loved the way Alex and Devin brought out the soft, vulnerable parts of each other that they had both carefully hidden away for their own reasons. Devin fell first and fell hard, and I loved the ways he worked to get Alex on the same page. The way they took care of each other was so lovely.

Rosie Danan has been an auto-read author for me since I first read one of her books, and Fan Service only further cements that status!

Teenaged Alex meets her teen idol. Alex gets crushed. Adult Alex gets a second chance to meet her idol and this time has a super-select skill set to help with a little problem. The problem, former star of hit series Arcane, Devin, is turning into a werewolf. No special effects this time around, just lots of extra-heightened senses.
Rosie Danan combines the comforting feel of your favorite cult tv show with great teasing banter and just the right amount of spice.

REVIEW: Fan Service by Rosie Danan

Fan Service by Rosie Danan was such a fun story! This story features fandoms, obsessions, washed-up actors, and werewolves. Devin, the MMC, previously played a werewolf on TV and is turning into a real werewolf. Not knowing what to do or who to turn to, Devin finds a fan forum online for his popular show, The Arcane Files. He messages the mod, Alex, the MFC, to see what kind of answers they may have. It was such a great mix of a rom-com and a supernatural book. It just felt like a very unique storyline!

I enjoyed the appreciation of fandoms and nerdiness in Fan Service. As someone who has been and still is in some fandoms, I could relate to Alex. Thinking about past forums and talks about different fandoms reminded me of being a teen. Fan Services

I also loved how Alex and Devin were flawed and imperfect characters. There were times when I was thinking what the characters would do that (especially Devin not acting like he was 42), but the story explained well why they have those traits. Each character built walls to avoid being hurt due to their pasts. Both characters had excellent character development and slowly were able to become more vulnerable. Regarding romance tropes, Fan Service is full of enemies to lovers and an age gap. I enjoyed watching Devin and Alex fall for each other while their chemistry grew. Plus, some tremendous spicy scenes brought their connections together.

Although there were a few character moments I didn’t like, I still really liked Fan Service. The premise was unique, giving me what I wanted from a rom-com with a splash of supernatural. I will definitely be checking out more of Rosie Danan’s books!

Thank you NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review. I thought this book was very original and loved reading something so unique! This is an enemies to lovers romance with the perfect amount of science fiction! Both Alex and Devin are obsessed with the supernatural. When Devin accidentally turns werewolf during the Wolf Blood Moon, he can only think of seeking his enemies' help, Alex. The more time they spend together the more their feelings towards each other change.

ROSIE DANAN HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!
I absolutely adore all of Rosie’s books, but something about this one was different. Devin and Alex are unlike any of her other characters in the best way possible. Devin is an actor from a hit television show, and is now unsure of what his career will look like. Until suddenly he transforms into a wolf and gets the help from a fan of his television show. You may ask, what could go wrong? And to that I’ll say nothing… there’s literally no better way for things to go.

This book was absolutely perfect, and I can’t wait to scream about it with everyone else on release day. Fan Service has secured a place in my heart, and I don’t think it’ll ever leave. We all need a man like Devin who becomes so down bad he feels his wolf coming out when Alex is near.

He literally ran to her house unconsciously because he smelt something good there… I’ll say that again, Devin channeled his inner wolf and ran all the way to Alex’s house without knowing it because her scent was the best thing he’s ever smelt. Yeah, this book is pretty perfect.

Thank you to Berkeley for the ARC

I loved Rosie Danan's first two books so much that there's no way I won't continue to read her. Unfortunately this one didn't do it for me like the others did, but I definitely still enjoyed it. Maybe because I'm not into the fandom world? I'm not sure BUT I will say that the banter was spot on. I loved it. It made me laugh a lot!!! I loved Alex's character but Devin bugged me. He didn't act like any 42 y.o. I know - but that's why its fiction!

listen, idk what the author put into this book.. but i don’t think I’ve ever been so entertained in my life! the promise follows Alex and Devin: Alex has an online forum for this werewolf detective show called The Arcane Files, and Devin is the actor who plays the lead role on that show. Alex is one of his biggest fans but after meeting him a couple years ago where things didn’t go as planned, she’s got a different opinion of him now. so when Devin starts to turn into a werewolf in his real life, he has to try and rope Alex into helping him figure out what’s going on and how to control his wolf side before it’s too late and things get out of hand.

i have conflicting feelings on this but overall, i did enjoy it for the most part. the main issue is that Devin got on my last nerve and i wouldn’t even say i like him per-se, he doesn’t act his age and thinks such obnoxious thoughts about Alex 24/7.. it was not romantic in the slightest. Alex, on the other hand? I LOVE HER YOUR HONOR!! she’s got that standoffish demeanor on the outside, but this girl has the biggest heart and doesn’t let anyone walk all over her. i just wish Devin would have toned it down cause for every cute moment, he’d say something afterwards that made me want to smack him all over again. my favorite thing about this was the fact that they used Devin’s character from the show as a blueprint for the “trials” and what to do with his current situation, something about that was just so fun. this is a love letter to fandom culture and it’s not perfect.. but still worth the read if you don’t take it too seriously!

I am wholly in my werewolf era!

OMG I loved this soooooo much. It's fun, romantic, and dialogue is A++

I'm going to keep my eye out for more of Rosie Danan's work because I found myself LOLing so much and enjoying the overall story arc and characters. It's a 12/10 for me :)

“That was the trouble with fandom. Spend enough time thinking about a fictional character and you started to believe that your version of them was real. That they belonged to you in some small, private way.”

Yeah… this book made me cry a lot…

I laughed a lot too.

And the spice was so hot and also so sweet I’d go from crying to sweating at the same time.

A lot of us booktok girls grew up in the fandoms. The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Buffy… for a lot of us, that was our safe space. Our escape from a reality that may have felt a little more lonely than we’d care to admit.

My best friends in high school were Meredith Grey, Clark Kent, and Caroline Forbes.

“people here loved stories so much they wished they could abandon the real world to live inside them.”

This book… is for the fans.

This book is a gut punch in the feels.

So many quotes and conversations in this book felt like a literal mirror… it was eye opening for sure.

“I think I was too good at telling the therapist what she wanted to hear. Or she wasn’t good enough at getting me to not do that? I don’t know.” “That makes sense. That you’d find a way to keep even a professional at arm’s length.” “You think I’m ice-cold?” “No.” Devin dropped himself next to her with a grin. “I think you wish you were.”

But let’s not forget that our delicious male main character… does truly really absolutely turn into a werewolf. And it’s so. Much. Fun.

There’s a chase…

“Alex,” Devin said, “can I ask you for something?” “Like, a favor?” He nodded. “Sure, what is it?” His face was serious, pained. “When we get down there and I find you, even if you’re scared, don’t run.”

“Don’t run” is… my favorite line of all time.

Devin bonds with an old race horse and it’s so sweet. He’s getting older and his acting career is crumbling away and he can find a lot of parallels between himself and these horses. One day when Alex is looking outside at Devin with one of the older horses she thinks that the two of them are “beautiful, anxious, extraordinary, and discarded.” Queue… the tears.

Devin’s wolf is a riot. I love him so much! He’s such a goofy playful thing.

“Your wolf wanted what you wanted deep down, only more.”

Their chemistry is fantastic and they’re so different too. That’s what makes it so much fun to watch their story unravel.

“All this time she’d put Devin Ashwood under the microscope, he’d been doing the same to her. It was searing to be seen.”

If you want a story that tugs on your heartstrings. Brings a heavy dose of nostalgia for your fandom days… which let’s be honest… we’re all probably still happily living in those fandoms…

If you want a story that’s spicy, sweet, and full of character growth that is so inspiring, you’ll come out of this story a little stronger too…

Fan Service… is waiting for you.

Such a cute romance book storyline to meet my werewolf fix!

I was so excited to jump into this fun romcom because who am I to turn down a werewolf romance with a twist? Move over dragons, I’m in my werewolf era!

Right from the start I was engaged with the plotline. Hollywood has-been actor who played a werewolf on TV actually turns into a werewolf? Love it. Plus, he needs the help of the woman who ran his show’s fandom web site? Love it even more.

This book started with a great hook when Devin and Alex first meet. My heart broke for her but it gave a good backstory to why she holds herself back from people and the relationships in her life and how that would impact her reunion with Devin.

Devin on the other hand was this 42 year old manchild who never really seemed to grow up. My heart broke for him as well given how he was raised by his parents and was always looking to be loved and accepted. I wish his story arc had a bit more redemption but he kept fumbling over his interactions with Alex and would say the stupidest, hurtful things in his naivite that it was hard to really fall for the guy.

The whole, he turned into a werewolf now what’s he to do storyline was fun including how Rosie weaved in aspects from his show to help him learn to rein in his inner wolf. Anyone obsessed with a show fandom will enjoy that aspect.

If the paranormal aspect to the book is holding you back, don’t sweat it. I felt like the book read more like a contemporary romcom than anything.
Overall, I really liked Alex, tolerated Devin and thought it was a fun read but found the ending a bit disappointing. But the cover- STUNNING! The artist knocked it out of the park for this one. I LOVE IT!

*Thank you to Berkley for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

I was so ready to love this, and while I really enjoyed it, I felt a little annoyed and let down. Alex was frustrating for a good portion of the book, even more so at the quasi-drawn out-miscommunication trope in the third act. While building such a reflective and introspective redemption for Devin, it felt like Alex’s was disjointed. The spice was very good and well-paced. I loved the ending epilogue and interview. I was intrigued by the werewolf lore and felt some warm nostalgia over the inclusion of the fandom community.

this was really fun!! the plot was so different than any other romance/werewolf books i’ve read and i did very much enjoy it for the most part!!
however, i just wasn’t *completely* convinced of devin’s attraction/feelings towards alex when he wasn’t in his werewolf state. for a lot of the book he just kept alluding to him being “too good for her” (that slight make a wish comparison was VILE i can’t stop thinking about it) and i found the last 30% and conflict really choppy, out of place, and never fully resolved???

this book had a lot of promise it just didn’t *completely* follow through in a way i had wished it would! but it was still really fun and cute and i did still like it!!

I really, really liked this ridiculous romcom about a washed-up star who played a werewolf on TV paired with the moderator of his show's fan-run wiki when he actually becomes a werewolf.

IDK if that sentence made sense, but this may now be my favorite werewolf romance of all time. Basically Devin, said washed-up star, begins to experience werewolf symptoms suspiciously similar to those his character did on the show. When he googles how to reverse them, he comes across the exhaustive fan site Alex moderated until the show ended. He flies across the country to meet her, convinces her he's a werewolf, and they start to work together to help him manage his ... "condition."

Is this ridonk? Yes. Is it hilarious? Yes. Did I actually feel like these two characters in this super silly situation had complexity? Yes! I want more contemporary paranormal romcoms. They're basically the only thing bonkers enough to keep me reading anything contemporary.

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

Fan Service by Rosie Danan follows Alex Lawson, the (former) mod of a fan archive about her favorite show, The Arcane Files, and Devin Ashwood, the (former) star of said show. Alex first met Devin when she was 17, at her first (and last) comic con. After their less than ideal interaction, Alex went on to be a vet tech in her home town, as Devin fails to find substantial work following the ending of his show. Years later, Devin is the subject of a viral video, and he turns to the archive that Alex moderated to look for help. As their working relationship grows, so do their feelings, and Alex has to come to terms with the hurt she felt all those years ago.

My personal thoughts: I didn’t take many notes as I was reading as I was so invested in finishing this book. This book has great descriptive writing and vivid imagery, especially in the comic con scene. I was wary of how Devin and Alex would come together romantically, but I ended up really enjoying their relationship. Devin grew fantastically through the book (which I’m grateful for, as I didn’t like him much in the beginning). Overall, their relationship had its complications and they each had their own baggage, but they ended up working through it and coming together in a heartwarming relationship.

I’d recommend this to lovers of fanfiction, as this book has so many parts that are basically shout outs to readers/writers/enjoyers of fanfiction. Thank you so very much to Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me to read this e-arc!

I had a fun time reading this but it was not my favorite werewolf-related book ever. I liked the black cat x golden retriever vibes of this, I think they balanced each other out well. For the fangirl that resides inside of me I was living for the fan girl x celebrity story line especially because that is not always my favorite trope but that aspect of this book was done well. The communication between Alex and Devin could have been better, it felt like there was a lot of miscommunication that just went unresolved or in whatever character's POV there was an explanation but it was never said out loud. That would've changed a lot of the vibe of this book for me that I felt meh about. For the most part I had a good time reading this, just wanted more.

I am not a fan of Fan-fic anything I don’t even know what that is. I don’t even understand the concept STILL even when I read this book, but I loved the romance between Devin and Alex. So what I understood from this book is that Alex was a huge fan (and huge crush) of Devin who played Colby in a teen show about werewolves and such. She is also the brain of a huge forum about this man’s character and the show, she meets him and realizes that he’s actually a jerk, then more than SOOO many years later he ends up in her home town and he has a problem and he needs her help with it. In his old age of a man in his 40’s (that annoyed me), he is a has been and realized that he turns into a wolf, he can’t control it and seeing how she writes about them and her background (because of her dad) he needs her help.

The bickering between them was cute, at times offensive, but the chemistry between them was HOT, I think it’s their romance and his need to also help her was what made this book enjoyable for me, aside from the SPICE, Devin is pretty funny, and the things he does to defend Alex in her home town was awesome. The adventures on how she was going to help him control his inner wolf was wild, and how she handled everything??? HOT!!!!! This is a twist when it comes to meeting your heroes, lol.

this was SO much fun!! genuinely did not expect to fall so in love with this book and these characters but this was funny, emotional, & so romantic and i just adored it!! this also just made my ao3, tumblr, wattpad heart so so happy. i feel so seen by alex’s character. if i had this when i was younger, obsessing over fanfic, i probably wouldn’t have felt like such a weirdo!!! which this book totally embraces and i am so here for it. highly recommend you picking this one up

I'm reading this one again soon!

This book has been so hyped up, so I went into it with low expectations, and couldn't focus on anything else until I finished. I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers, especially when the FMC is usually fawning all over the famous actor, and that was definitely NOT the case in this story.

I enjoyed the audiobook SO much, especially the voices from the different POV's, it kept me highly entertained the entire time. The narration switch between human and wolf easily tells the reader when they shift, which I appreciated.

As someone whose love for reading was reignited by a fandom, yes I'm a Twihard, I loved seeing all of the behind-the-scenes from the fan POV. The amount of work and research put into it, far surpasses what the creater of the show originally did and it only shows the level of dedication fans have.

3.25 ⭐️

i really liked alex’s character— she’s a badass and actually cool without trying to be. she’s just real and sooo authentically herself! i love the way she cares for people and has a pure heart in spite of how she’s been treated in life! i loved reading the scenes with her dad and how she felt about him— i felt seen in their father/daughter bond! i also loved that alex’s best friends were online/fandom girlies! their friendship very much reminded me of me and my two best friends!
i thought the paranormal aspect of this story was really fun and had a lot of potential but fell a little short. a lot of this story was so far fetched and unbelievable (on the human side of things). i think this book read super long because so much was happening but at the same time not enough was happening. something about this world just felt a little incomplete.
i never quite felt the chemistry between devin and alex. i feel like she deserved so much better! their romance was so chaotic and random to me.
i also didn’t like how a certain issue was “resolved.” i don’t think it was given enough time or acknowledgment.
i didn’t vibe with devin’s character at all! he was starting to hurt my feelings too! idk it was just a lot of strange behavior for a 42 yr old, supposedly accomplished, man.
i would have loved to read alex sharing all the details with her friends and them having an in person meet up!
i did love where the couple ended up! it was very fitting and so wholesome!

overall, i think a lot of people will enjoy this one, but it wasn’t for me.
