The book had a lot of potential and I liked the fantasy elements and the worldbuilding. Unfortunately, that's all Iiked about the book. I didn't like and couldn't connect with any of the characters. Everything that happened in the book was told instead of shown, so it was like listening to a storyteller telling a story instead of an immersive experience.

This book was filled with adventure, aching hearts and lot of monsters. I liked the many story good enough, I even enjoyed the secondary plots as well and I was really happy with the plot twist at the end. What bothered me was that at times what was written in the letters already happened or didn't happen yet, so it was a bit confusing at times, but it was interesting to see the written short version vs the actual events.
Some parts made me really sad and I'm not sure if they are benefic to the story or not yet, but considering that they were supposed to be sad, that means it was well written. However, the story itself could be improved, because at times it felt as if it was dragging.
It took me quite a bit to finish this story but it started to pick up towards the end and I am curious to see what happens next.
"Miraden's Folly" draws you into a richly imagined world where every detail feels immersive and meaningful. The story follows Miraden, a young man on a daring quest to save the sister of the girl he is in love with. The sister has been taken by the mysterious and sinister Ashenkin, creatures who lurk in the shadows and are known for snatching away children. As Miraden travels deeper into this dark and dangerous world, we see him evolve from a thoughtful, somewhat naive boy into someone who understands his own strength and potential. Along the way, he meets a cast of intriguing characters who challenge and shape him, making the journey as much about self-discovery as it is about heroism. It’s not the greatest fantasy of all time, but it’s an adventure worth diving into if you’re looking for a story that’s both fun and heartfelt.
Dear Reader,
Prepare yourself for an exhilarating adventure told through dual points of view. Though certain parts may feel underdeveloped while others linger a bit too long, the journey is nonetheless captivating—well worth staying up late for. Fair warning, the author isn't shy about killing off characters, but there's also meaningful character growth, all leading to a suspenseful cliffhanger that will leave you eager for more.
Happy reading!
I like this story, it’s cute and it capitalises on using a lot of popular tropes to allow for mass appeal. It is not the only fantasy novel to do that as it is something that Rebecca Yarros does as well. This story doesn’t quite have the finesse of fourth wing at maximising the appeal but I full expect the author to grow and develop the skills to be able to create captivating fantasy stories that I will similarly enjoy reading at least as much as this
