This one was a little bit of a struggle for me to finish and I have spent several days trying to figure out why when I have really enjoyed Nisha's other works and the first two of this series. I didn't have anything overly positive or negative to say about this story.
This is one of my favourite series at the moment. The world is so vibrant, the characters are wonderful and the romance is hot hot hot! In this installment we see Zarya expand her horizons in a new city where she becomes embroiled in the heart of a rebellion. She makes new allies and becomes even more badass along the way. Having gone from hate to love to hate, Rabin is in the dog house but he is as tempting as ever and determined to get his girl back! Grovel he does and the spice is spicy! And thankfully, there is more of Yasen - the best BFF ever - bringing the humour. I loved the direction of this story, the drama, the adventure, the growth of the characters and the romance. I felt a little less love for the cliffhanger ending but appreciate it's part of the package from Nisha J. Tuli - she is a master at leaving us desperate for more! The scene is set for an explosive finale full of intrigue, action, and of course, magic, and I cannot wait for it!
I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for the final book in this series! The tension and twists in this book kept me hooked, especially as characters revealed their true colors in ways I didn’t see coming. Not knowing who to trust has added such a tense layer to this story, and I’m so curious about how some of these roles will play into the series’ conclusion.
One of my favorite aspects of The Nightfire Quartet has been the friendships and found family. The connections Zarya builds feel authentic and heartwarming, grounding the story even as it grows darker and more complex. I also loved learning more about Indian mythology and culture, even though it took a little time to fully grasp the intricacies of the magic and different groups at play. The cultural richness adds so much depth to the world building.
And let’s talk about the romance—this book definitely cranked up the spice compared to its predecessors. The slow burn was absolutely worth it, and the chemistry between Zarya and Rabin is top tier. Their dynamic is full of tension and longing, making every interaction between them unforgettable.
With its stunning world, high-stakes action, and razor-sharp banter, Storm of Ink and Blood has solidified The Nightfire Quartet as a favorite fantasy romance series. If you love slow-burn romances with explosive payoffs, characters who steal your heart, and stories that keep you guessing, this is a must-read. Now, if only I could fast-forward to the final book—I need to know how this all ends!
Nisha’s done it again! I got an ARC and man I should have waited because now it’s just that much longer I have to wait for the next one 😩😩 finished in less than 24 hours after rereading 1&2 first. I love the new characters and settings we get to see…friendships and relationships blossoming and building. Z’s path to freeing the oppressed is just as exciting as fighting the blight. Plus the steamy scenes 🥵 Loved it so much! And no terrible cliff hanger at the end, thank the gods lol.
This, so far, has been my favorite of this series.
The character development, the plot development... this story has not stayed stagnet. I love the creativity of this series and can not wait until the final book of this series!
We are definitely settling into the ride with this third book of the series, but not so that the reader can get comfortable because before you know it the next twist arises! I loved the exploration of characters and growth and development, we got to experience every ounce of the mistrust and betrayal Zarya felt from Rabin. He, in turn, considers everything from Zarya's POV and realises he needs to apologise and prove that he is on Zarya's side before she even considers lowering the barriers again. That interaction gradually turns into familiarity, comfort, chemistry and compatibility (and spice!) - they truly are such a power couple!Zarya has questioned her belonging, identity and home, where she comes from, since Book 1 and it really feels like she has found that safe haven in Book 3, surrounded by loved ones who want to care for her and protect her.
Zarya is also channeling and learning about her own power, the sixth anchor and the energy she derives from it. It felt as if I was watching a movie, the plot really develops in this book and we are introduced to Zarya's core purpose to fulfil her mother's prophecy and that comes to light. It was a great introduction to new characters who made the read even more interesting which is written in a concise way that makes it easy to follow the story.
Speaking of characters, you cannot forget Yasen! Yasen and Zarya's friendship is always a highlight for me and I can recall the cutest moments between the two, they truly have the best equation! It's always a cherry on top when we get to witness their banter/protectivensss and love towards each other.
I am really excited to see where we are headed next, the plot has ended on a cliffhanger and I feel with all of Nisha's books it's anyone's guess where the story will go! Completely unpredictable!!
Thank you @secondskybooks and @netgalley for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest unedited review.
As always, Nisha gives us the most incredible stories with the best characters that are super fleshed out and like to get into all sorts of trouble.
Cannot recomend this series enough. I loved the trial of the sun queen series and thought nothing could top it, but this series may have just done that!
A romantasy-esque adventure - book 3 of this amazing series - that packs a punch from the start. Full of intrigue, drama, action and romance, this was a truly compelling read.
Amazing as always! Nisha always blows me away and this was no diffferent! I cannot wait for the next book!
A wonderful and binge-able continuity to The Nightfire Quartet series. I truly can’t rave enough about all her novels, dedication to her characters and world building. Can’t wait to see where the next book and final instalment takes us!!
I still really love Zarya’s character. She is a really strong woman and continues to learn more about herself while helping others. Rabin has a lot to make up for and is willing to lay his life down for her. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
I hope Zarya and Rabin end up together at the end of the series. The chemistry they have is just so strong and I love reading their story.
I continue to love Nisha Tuli’s writing style and story telling. I can’t wait for book 4.
such an incredible continuation to such a fun series!
I just loved how Zarya grew and developed both her magic and her independence and personhood in this book. it was great to see her grow apart from Rabin and learn more about her stance on how she wanted to be treated in a relationship as well as learning to control and wield her magic.
as always, the descriptions are lavish and enticing, im always obsessed with the way the outfits are written, and the attention to detail in showing the different places is just incredible.
I really enjoyed the direction this book took re: Zaryas family and how she dealt with all the dilemmas that came with that! all the new and reccuring characters were a joy to read as always, and I just can't wait for book 4 - it's going to be fantastic to find out how this series ends!
I was genuinely excited to dive into the third book of the Nightfire Quartet series, but I actually ended up disappointed during a big part of the book.
The dynamic between Zarya and Rabin lacked the depth that I hoped for, especially at the beginning. While the physical attraction between them was evident, the emotional connection felt a bit underdeveloped in my opinion. I found some of the intimate scenes cringey. I would have appreciated the book more if they had been replaced with some sweeter and more emotional moments for example. (I recognize though that this might just be a personal preference as many readers probably appreciate those scenes more than I did. I am probably just not the right audience.)
That said, the ending made me reinvested in the series. It was captivating and had the kind of high-stakes scenario that I love. Interestingly, while the conclusion didn’t include a traditional romantic moment, it was precisely this lack of overt romance that made their connection feel the most genuine and believable (it is kind of hard to explain my thoughts).
While I wasn’t sure about reading the final installment of this series because of a weak beginning, the ending definitely changed my mind!
I love this author! Any of this authors book are an auto buy for me. This one did not disappoint. Now to wait for the next one….
I love Nisha's work in general, and this book didn't disappoint. Well, other than I have to WAIT for the next one! LOL! It's full of action, intrigue, plot twists, fated love, prophecy fulfillment, etc.
I also especially love the focus on the traditional Indian food and clothing in this series! I've found myself searching for each item online so I might 'see' what it is that's described. It's like a second adventure included in the story!
Oh my goodness. This is an ARC Review received from NetGalley, and I easily rate this book 4.5⭐ rounded up!!
I've devoured this series, started thanks to Kindle Unlimited, and then finished the ARC read for this copy.
The twists and turns are amazing, and the plot is continuing on with as many hurdles as expected!
There is only one part of the book where Zarya made a decision that had me rolling my eyes... Because how could she be that naive, when she has other smart and well thought out plans.
The continuous development of Zarya and Rabin's bond is fantastic and creates so much depth.
Cannot wait to read the next book, and hopefully have the opportunity to ARC Reader Review that one as well!!
This is my favourite of Tuli’s series (that I’ve read) and I think this book is my favourite of this series. It had everything I like in a book and especially in Tuli’s books! She’s fantastic with character building and building connections between those characters. I definitely don’t mind reading longer series if this is how it goes! I love how I’m never bored in basically any moment in her books. I quickly like the characters, root for them early on, their villains are my villains. For me that’s not only a sign of a good writer but a good reader! Tuli knows her work, uses her strengths to make a really good book and capture her readers’ attention.
Obviously I can’t really talk much about the plot because, well, it’s the third book in a quartet so I’m a bit limited. What I can tell you is that it’s a solid plot – I wasn’t confused (which I’m always happy about) and also it worked so well with the characters and world-building. The plot flowed so well from the previous book and I can’t wait for the fourth book! What I liked is that there was an extensive glossary so you could refer back to the various characters and places in the book. There’s also a map on her website so clearly she knows how to treat her readers.
Like I’ve said so many times before, I absolutely loved the cast of characters in here. Rabin and Zarya have been so through much and they continued to go through a lot in this book; which I both hated and loved. I love angst, but at what cost, right? I love how they became closer in this book and there were so many scenes that had me grinning. Something I really liked was that Zarya still stands up for herself, makes Rabin know she won’t just let him walk all over her. Which he absolutely loves, which is something I love. As much as I’d love for them to just not have to go through more battles and turmoil; they just do it so well! They work together fantastically and I like that they lean on each other. They aren’t afraid to be weak.
Tuli is also really good with her side characters. Yasen is my absolute favourite and I love him ever so much. Yasen is a bigger side character, so he’s seen a lot – and I love Tuli for that. I also love that she puts in so much work for all the other side characters too – which isn’t something I can say for a lot of fantasy books! I actually tended to forget that the side characters in here are only side characters because they feel like main characters!
I really like the magic system in the book, it’s a very interesting one and I like how Tuli wrote it and tied all the different knots together. It’s neatly woven into the world-building and explained in a way that doesn’t bother me, isn’t too long – which, yet again, is not as common as I would like it (in fantasy books). I liked how the magic was also tied to power and not only freeing yourself but freeing others and the power that comes from that too.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for letting me review this book.
The main character has grown so much, and I love that. I'm beginning to like her more with each book. Can't wait fo the final one! But towards the end of this book, the main couple's relationship felt almost rushed.
I love that we get to see more of the world, but I'm also excited for even more in the next book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a romantasy series to read.
Includes:
Found family
Enemies to lovers to... and so on
Slow burn
Intriguing magic
Storm of Ink and Blood is Fire.
The third book in the Nightfire Quartet exceeded every expectation I had for this series. Nisha outdid herself in both plot and character development. Just when I thought I could not love Zarya more, she goes on and lives her life after a heart shattering betrayal. Fans of Rabin will be delighted with the turn of events that unfold. Book 4 cannot come soon enough.
3.5 ⭐ I love this series and was so excited to read this one! It's definitely spicier (or maybe I just forgot it was spicy??)
The characters fell a little flat for me this time though and I was kind of unsure what to think of some of the twists the book took us on.
Read this if you love the characters and want more. You might love it and think it's perfection but it just wasn't for me.
I did love the 3 day sextreat that our main characters got to go on. 😆😆😆
Thank you to netgalley for a copy to enjoy.
