I've taught volcanoes in Geography many times but have always struggled to find a good book all about them - this definitely filled that gap and has been loved by the children (aged 7-9) as part of our topic. It's really carefully thought out book, starting with information about what volcanoes are and how they are formed, before moving on to double page spreads about volcanoes from all over the world. It's amazing to learn about how different they all are and the impact that their eruptions have had on the people who live near them. We spent many happy hours looking at the pages and learning new facts; a really special book that is fascinating as well as beautiful!

Interesting and fact filled book about volcanoes. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the free eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Competent primary school read about volcanoes, that tells us about their structure, lifespan and so on, either side of an atlas of some of the world's more notable ones, from Etna to Erebus and from Pinatubo to Pop-, Popocat-, that Mexican one. These are a uniform standard, where we get an introductory paragraph and databank, followed by several other paragraphs – and here the book slips up as the reading order is just out the window with these, quite regularly. Still, the visuals certainly have enough variety to stop this looking repetitive, and the details of all the major eruptions are diverse enough too. Therefore I'd want to give it four stars – if only the paragraphs weren't so scattershot and illogically placed. Three and a half, it is.

I'm a geology nerd so I was excited to see this book. This is such a great resource for learning about volcanoes, and it's engaging and easy to read. The book goes through different geographical areas, and it talks about famous incidents and what really happened. I had no idea how many active volcanoes there are, and the illustrations are fantastic. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

This is a cool idea that as someone who comes from a volcanic disaster science background was right up my alley. I think making a “kid friendly” atlas of this kind, explaining some of the science, history and mechanisms of these natural features is a really good idea, but I think this book largely misses the mark due to inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and questionable choices. It reads more as a poster made up of parts of a middle school essay.
I think overall the intentions of this book, and the accurate information presented, are nice. There are some good diagrams and some cool cover art. But a large amount of the information is presented in varyingly inaccurate, inconsistent, or seemingly unclear ways that it makes it rather poor as an educational book. I think significant revision of the material included, the language used, and the overall formatting of the book (so many things would work much better if simply included on different pages), before this book is ready to go.

Gostei bastante!

There are lots more volcanoes beyond the Ring of Fire around the Pacific Ocean, even in Iceland and Antarctica. Here we learn how they work, types, features, the local and worldwide effects of their activity in the 64pp including a glossary and index.
The illustrations by Maggie Li are a variety of illustration/information styles which engages the mind and is easy on the eyes.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age (listed as 6-9 but I really enjoyed it and learned new things at 78!) including ESL, and great for gifting to EVERYONE, but especially to a school, hospital, or your local public library! Be sure to get one for yourself!
I requested and received a free temporary EARC on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group | words & pictures via NetGalley. Thank you!

The art style is not exceptionally fresh or engaging but the content is fascinating, and is presented well.
It is not tiring, and engages a book with fascinating facts.
