When I read a Jack Reacher book I have this video going on in my head. I could easily see a new episode for the TV show. He is sitting in a cafe. Doesn't that immediately form a picture in your head? Reacher finds himself waking up and having no idea how he got there. His memory is sketchy so how did he get here and who put him here? As he searches for answers there is plenty of action and endless coffee. Who can he trust? Interesting cast of characters. I liked the story.

I’ve been reading the Reacher series for years. It’s Reacher and the Pendergast series that I recommend to people. I always get excited to receive an ARC for the next installment. Especially on a week I’m on vacation.

Reacher always finds himself in some interesting places. This one starts right in the action. The upcoming release is lighter on Reacher fighting than some of his others, but makes up for it in storyline. I do miss the times when it’s more Reacher just stumbling across something bad in a small town.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars

Yet another solid addition to the Jack Reacher series. Jack wakes up, injured and tied to a table, with no memory of how he got there. His brand of justice ensues.

This eARC was received through Netgalley.com and I am providing an unbiased review.

I believe this is the 29th book in the Jack Reacher series originally created by Lee Child, and now being written also with his nephew(?) in these past recent novels. The story continues the exploits of our favorite Major Reacher (Ret.) as he travels across whatever states he feels like, with just some cash, his passport, and the willingness to walk.

I had some feelings prior to starting this novel. Mostly, it was along the lines of 'where are they going to get a story that hasn't already been used' since we are so far into the series. This one started with Reacher having amnesia, and much of the storyline is him figuring out what/who are involved, while trying to recall the short-term memory lapse he has. Not bad on the story line front...

I did see more of a change int he writing style, compared to earlier novels. I think Andrew is doing much more of the writing now, and though trying to stay in character with the dialogue we are used to seeing in other Reacher novels, it just quite doesn't feel the same. I do believe that given some more time, Andrew could tell the tale as well as Lee has done all these years, and perhaps, bring in some ideas that have not been used to date. Overall, it is a Reacher novel and I just love this series!

Andrew Child creates a highly suspenseful aura with multiple characters intersecting throughout the narrative, each with their own unique perspective, all until Reacher steps in to ruin their perfect plans for a nefarious crime.

It’s an intriguing story that keeps you on the edge as you along with Reacher are scrambling to connect the dots before it’s too late.

What a joy this book is to read. I have always been a huge Reacher fan and I feel like he is back with us. I loved this book with all its action and deep problem solving. I can only image these two authors plotting out all the scenes and fights and thoughts and actions. If you are an action fan you will love this book as much as I do and I urge you to read it. It is like revisiting with a long time friend. Thank you for another great story. The story begins with Reacher gaining consciousness and does not know where he is or how he got there. I have said enough and urge you to buckle up for a great ride.

I wish to thank Net Galley and Random House Publishing Company * Ballantine Books, Delacort Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Well, I had high hopes. Seeing Reacher appear human was a great jumping off point, but the story stayed disjointed. I don't want to get kicked out of the club, but the story never really started or completely finished. Maybe my expectations were set to high? The last one they did together was very smooth and filled with promise, but this one just doesn't ever live up to the standard Reacher - expectations.
Sorry but it is what it is for me.

Reacher wakes up handcuffed to a table with a fractured wrist and no memory of how he got there. When he eventually gets free he finds himself in the middle of a complex scheme of black market dealers. With the help of a suspended police detective and the FBI Reacher finds himself trying to stop one of the most nefarious plots he's ever run into.
Another pretty fast-paced an exciting Reacher thriller from the Childs. The story seemed to reach a satisfying conclusion around the 60% mark when an uncharacteristic mistake from Reacher kept the story going. I wasn't sure it really needed to, yet the plot got even more intense the further it went along. Though the ending was a bit unrealistic even in the world of Jack Reacher, it was still another great entry in the series. 4.5/5*

This is a fast-paced, intriguing story, with strong characters, both good and evil, that begins from the very first page with Reacher tied down to a flat surface, without any memory of how he got there. His right hand is extremely painful, his head hurst and his pockets are empty. As only Reacher can, he manages to escape using only his left hand. As usual, he ends up partnering with a woman in law enforcement. She is intent on finding the man who killed her father. Seems that perhaps they are after the same person.
This story is set in the present time and is a wild ride from beginning to end. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley, authors, brothers Lee and Andrew Child, and publisher Random House/Delacorte Press for the opportunity to read the ebook,In Too Deep. I have read every Reacher book written but have found the last several, inc this newest, not as enjoyable. It was confusing right from the first page and for many pages thereafter. It’s as you walked into a movie that’s half over and you can’t figure out what’s going on.The blackmail premise was over the top with a flash drive being mainly in the center with a big American government/military secret on it. The last third of the novel got more exciting like the old Jack Reacher novels and the pieces all fit together, finally. I have found out that Lee Child has basically retired from writing and his brother Andrew has taken over. I will probably read one more Reacher story to see if it improves with the newer Child author.

*** 8/31/24 *** Finished! This is another solid entry in the Reacher series, which is in the process of being taken over by "Lee Child's" (pseudonym) younger brother, Andrew Child (another pseudonym). I was curious and did some googling to find out that in 2020 Lee Child said he couldn't keep up with the public's demand for Reacher books, so he brought on his younger brother to take over the series - first as partners, and eventually on his own. Reacher #25, The Sentinel, was published in 2020, and was the first the pair published together, and apparently they are still co-authoring, as this is book #29 in the Reacher series.

I have read a majority of Lee Child's Reacher books, and would have to go back and re-read some to really see how the tone of the writing, or the plot progression changed with the co-authors. What I can say now is that although I love the Reacher series, I feel the plots have become almost too formulaic and less personal about Reacher - always involving a major global situation, with Reacher maintaining his one outfit and toothbrush lifestyle despite his approximate age.

It might be sacrilege to Reacher fans, but I feel he should be evolving with the times a bit: getting a cellphone, understanding commonly used apps like Uber or even email, maybe even buying at least one new pair of underwear per book!? Plot-wise, I feel they are really stretching the concept of Reacher being a smart former MP who is physically intimidating. For example, in this book, his "partner in crime" was a woman who is a law enforcement officer, but her actions seem like a special ops person IMO. I also think Reacher's reliance on his FBI contact for critical information felt like a bit of a stretch. The books should instead be trying to see Reacher evolve as an aging human in some way, instead of just randomly getting mixed up in global crises.

So, I'm not going to summarize the plot except to say yes, read it, but keep in mind the book is really not too focused on Reacher as a person, and I hope the Child brothers will try to do that more in the future. 4-stars.

*** 8/29/24 *** Thank you to NetGalley and Random House/Delacorte Press for an Advanced Reader Copy of the latest Jack Reacher, #29, due for publication October 22, 2024. I love all of the Reacher books - despite the formula of his size, power, moral outrage about bad guys doing bad things, traveling with just a toothbrush, hooking up with interesting, smart and beautiful women, eating pie, drinking coffee, hitchhiking - it is comforting to me to read how he gets himself into and out of the mix.

This one starts out with Jack tied to a bed with one of his arms hurt, with no memory of how he got there. Hmmmmm........ Do we think he'll overtake and outsmart his captors? Review coming soon.

Another wild ride with Jack Reacher. After the last book visited his past, this one is back to modern day and we find Jack in the Ozarks. He has just woken up from a car accident and finds himself restrained in an unfamiliar house. What follows is a complex, intricately woven story that has implications for for the future for everyone one. I really liked all the different twists to this book. The story was complicated and I did not guess how it was going to end. The way the authors not only pull you into the story, but make you really see the places is second to none. I am looking forward to even more Jack Reacher in the future. Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing for the advanced copy.

Another excellent addition to this series. Reacher is such a great character. I love to see how his brain works as he tries to figure out what is going on. So much action and intrigue throughout the book. Looking forward to whatever Reacher gets into next.

This was such a terrific installment for Reacher. It felt fresh, clever and action-packed. For me, this one was a return to form, as it felt really thought out, and the twists were top-notch. Bravo to Lee Child and his next hit.

What's not to like about Jack Reacher?
Another over the wall hit for the Childs.
Reacher comes to shackled to a bed in a darkend room
with no memory of where he is or how he got there. In fact,
he has no recent memory recall at all. But don't think
that will stop Jack Reacher from getting free and getting to the bottom of what happened.
to him and what is really going on.
A great story with non stop Reacher action and his usual common sense handling of
not so common details.
Terrific, strong plot with equally strong and well defined characters.
Ready for his next stop.

My Thoughts

I have never read a book in this series where Reacher was slightly incapacitated in any major way at the beginning of his story but as loyal fans expect him to he managed to prevail nonetheless.

Jack, no-middle-name, Reacher is a man who walks to his own drum beat through life after being retired from his job in the Army.

That means sometimes he ends up involved in things that are not good for him or his health.

Case in point most of this book Reacher is trying to keep himself from being injured worse or killed as his number of enemies increases and his allies are few.

The truth of what Reacher has inadvertently become a part of is slowly sorted out and as the body count rises so do the stakes if he does not figure out the end game.

An adrenaline filled race to a finish that only this character is capable of making work to his satisfaction.
