This was such a cute book! Anita was a really interesting character, and I loved how she interacted with everyone in her life. The story was different and fun to read. I had thought it might be confusing to start off in the middle of it all, but somehow it wasn't. I cared about what happened to Anita pretty quickly. I loved Oscar so much. What a guy. I love that he was a nurse. It would've been cool to see a bit more of Anita's world when she's working, but I also understand why it wasn't shown. Thank you to NetGalley and Boroughs Publishing Group for this ARC!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was wonderful!
Anita meets Oscar soon after she breaks up with her boyfriend. a sweet romantic comedy. quick read, read in two afternoons
Anita Farleigh Unpacks is just the cozy warm hug of a book that I needed last week.
It's got all my favorite romance elements:
2 lovable, genuinely good-hearted people who are a wonderful fit and SO DESERVE each other;
funny, playful, quirky banter;
serious issues that must be overcome if they are to end up together (spoiler: they do!);
and a character who finally learns to speak up for themselves and to expect loved ones to recognize their worth and treat them accordingly.
The story is told from the perspective of Anita, whose life, while full of interesting travel, has prepared her to accept the scraps others are willing to leave her. As the story opens, her world has just been upended by a massive betrayal. As she navigates new living situations and changed relationships and job stressors, she meets and begins to fall for the big, sweet nurse at her doctor's office.
Oscar, the nurse, is a warm, funny, laid-back, irreverent, kind, down-to-earth guy who turns out to be a friend of Anita's stepbrother, ensuring that they meet again. He returns her growing feelings but his love-life to date has been complicated enough to leave him vulnerable and easily triggered.
And every one of his (and her) triggers are pulled as their relationship develops and intertwines with their interactions with others. Their journey is not smooth and easy; they both have to grow and work for it and they do-- making this the most satisfying kind of love story.
By the end, their well-deserved happiness together makes the world feel like a warmer, more just place.
5 whole-hearted stars

What a fun story! Anita Farleigh Unpacks is filled with relationship drama; meet/cute; friendship and family drama and a happy ending which makes it a perfect rom com read! Plus it has shelter dogs which make it an even better story! I can’t wait to read this author’s next story! 4.5 stars

A great read, the story of Anita and Oscar who meet the day after she finds out Zach was cheating on her. She teaches English abroad and he wants quality time in his relationship so do they have a chance? Looking forward to more from this author.
I thoroughly enjoyed Anita Farleigh Unpacks. I've followed the author on Instagram for some time and therefore have been awaiting the release of this novel, and it delivered what it promised! This is a true rom-com, filled with plenty of heart and silliness and joy. I was rooting for Anita from page one and quickly fell in love with Oscar as well. The secondary stories and characters were engaging, too, and brought me into Anita's family and life in an engrossing way. This story is both unique and relatable, and I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it!
