this was a wonderfully done novel in the genre. It had a tense atmosphere that worked with the story-line going on. I enjoyed how everything worked with the characters and the atmosphere. Milton Johns was able to create a strong story and was written well.
Delivery Vehicles is a refreshing departure from the typical behind-the-scenes thrillers often dominated by grizzled anti-heroes and Hollywood-friendly scenes. This novel introduces us to Mike Haskell, a DC attorney whose life has spiraled into chaos.
From the outset, it's clear that Delivery Vehicles isn't your standard legal thriller. Instead of the expected cliches, the author provides an often raw portrayal of Haskell’s life. Haskell is not your typical hero; his life is a series of messy entanglements, both personal and professional, that paint a vivid picture of a man fighting to keep his head above water, or Ole No. 7, as the case may be.
Yes, there is a 'National Security' narrative woven into the story- but this isn't the main focus of the book. You don't notice the meandering journey through the plot, because you're engrossed in the author's genuine voice and nuanced character development. Johns’ insider knowledge of the DC legal world adds a layer of authenticity that is often missing in this genre. Whether fighting in the courtroom, or with the bottle, Haskell is engrossing, offering readers an unfiltered look at his struggles and failures.
Delivery Vehicles is a must-read for those who enjoy sharp writing and a realistic wit that balances the darker elements of the story: specifically, the often harsh truths of life as a lawyer in the nation’s capital
