I chose this audiobook primarily because of the narrator. Hilary Huber is one of the best and she did an amazing job narrating this one. I didn’t realize this was part of a series but I didn’t feel like I was missing enough to make me confused, I did enjoy this one and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
This was my first time reading Tami Hoag's books, I found it to be a well written thriller that kept me engaged throughout the entire novel. Look forward to reading more of her series.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #BrillianceAudio for this ARC.
I am a huge Tami Hoag fan. I have been reading her books for years. The Boy is one of my favorites. This book continues the Nick Fourcade and Annie Broussard series shortly after where The Boy leaves off. This book is as spell binding as The Boy. I recommend listening to the audiobook. Hillary Hubar narrates both The Boy and Bad Liar. She does a superb job. I especially like her accent for Fourcade, though she's great with all the voices. You don't have to have read The Boy to read this one. It works as a stand alone.
Thank you to NetGalley, Tami Hoag and Brilliance Publishing for the opportunity to listen to this book.
Thank you to Brilliance Audio and Dutton Books for the ARC and ALC!
I was so excited to start this one even though I haven't read the others in the series. Since I haven' read them, I'm not sure what I'm missing but do feel confident enough to say that this can be read as a standalone.
I liked a lot of this, but did feel that overall it was a little too long and confused me at parts as to what was going on. This type of book is usually right up my alley but unfortunately this one was a miss for me.
The narrator Hillary Huber did do an excellent job on the narration as always. I give the audio production 5/5 and the story 3/5.
This is available on September 24, 2024.
Audiobook And Pub Day Review: Bad Liar
I absolutely loved the Oak Knoll series when I read it years ago, so l was excited to see this title on @netgalley.
I loved this small town Louisiana thriller, and the narrator did such a great job with the Cajun accents! Nick Fourcade and Annie Broussard are back investigating two separate missing men in this small southern town. B'Lynn is worried about her recovering addict son who she hasn't seen or talked to. Nick is investigating the disappearance of Marc Mercier, a well known hometown hero. A body is found, but is unrecognizable, so the two detectives must work together to find out who it is.
This was a great procedural thriller, and I really enjoyed the audio! Thank you @tami_hoag_writer and @netgalley
This is my first time reading Tami Hoag and I am ready for more! I really wish I had read it instead of listened to it. There was so much going on, I had to rewind a few times because I wanted to ensure I understood the details correctly. I love a good thriller/suspense and this one was up there for me. It was gritty, emotional, unpredictable and kept me on the edge of my seat.
In a small town in Louisiana, many lives go awry, each headed in a different direction and yet somehow end up intertwining in the end. The story starts with an unidentifiable body dumped on the roadside, and two missing men. There are a lot of secondary characters who play fairly significant roles in this novel. I don't know if that is standard for this author, but that is one of the reasons I wished I had e-read it, so that I could have searched for keywords or names and jump to specific parts of the book and re-read.
The narrator, Hillary Huber did a great job of bringing all the characters to life. With so many characters to portray, she was able to play each one well enough that I could tell who she was without being told. Well done!
Thank you Tami Hoag, NetGalley and Brilliance Audio for this ARC. The above is my own and personal opinion.
Holy Moly this was a thrilling page turner!!!! Gripping, shocking, tension filled and hard to put down! Tami Hoag killed it with Bad Liar! I was completely engrossed in this twist filled, suspenseful, captivating read. There is a lot going on in the Louisianna bayou and Nick Fourcade and his wife, Annie Broussard are both investigating cases that have them scratching their heads, interrogating many suspects, and finding that there is a tangled web of secrets and lies in the Parrish. This is the third book in the Broussard and Fourcade series but works perfectly as a stand-alone.
In this book B’Lynn Fontenot, a mother will want answers concerning her missing adult son who was once a hometown sports hero but due to a horrible injury, found himself addicted to a pain medication. He had been making changes to his life for the better when she stopped receiving contact from him. She asks Annie Broussard for help in finding out what happened to her son.
Nick Fourcade finds himself investigating the murder of a man whose body was dumped on the side of the road. A man who is unrecognizable due to being shot in the face. The only lead he has leads him to another man, Marc Mercier, who left home to go on a fishing trip with his brother and never showed up.
Both Annie and Nick will find that they will need to wade through a river of lies, deception, and secrets to get to the truth. This is a very dangerous thing to do in the bayou and as the suspense, sense of danger, and tension mounted, I was on the edge of my seat wanting more.
I loved how well thought out this book was. There is a lot going on and quite a few characters, but everything was easy to follow. Tami Hoag created an interesting bunch of characters ranging from likeable to very unlikeable. I enjoyed doing my own super sleuthing along with Annie and Nick. There are quite a few suspects but deterring whodunit, will be easier said than done. Just when I thought I had things figured out, Tami Hoag threw in a twist and another small reveal which had me reeling.
I enjoyed how family ties, secrets, lies, old traumas, jealousy, camaraderie, power, manipulation, and guilt came into play in this book. This book also had some humor, some engaging banter, and pulled on my heartstrings. I appreciated how Hoag showed the character's emotions, their self-doubt, their dedication, and their courage.
This was a riveting and page turning police procedural. I loved Tami Hoag's writing, the pacing, the well thought out plot, the suspense, and the tension in this book. I can't wait to read future books in this series.
I listened to the audiobook and thought Hillary Huber did an excellent job narrating this book. She really brought the characters and this book to life!
Highly Recommend.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #BrillancePublishing for the book #BadLiar by #TamiHoag. This book sucked me in until the shocking ending. Annie and her husband Nick take on a missing persons case to done a woman’s son. B’Lynn has been looking for her son, Robbie, for over a week with no luck. He is a recovering addict and has been doing great but nobody wants to help B’Lynn. Can Annie and Nick find him, or has something bad happened?
Tami Hoag’s Bad Liar expertly weaves a tale of suspense and small-town intrigue, making it a compelling read from start to finish. The dual storylines of Sheriff’s Detective Nick Fourcade and Annie Broussard offer a gripping exploration of the darker sides of their hometown, as both detectives delve into cases that blur the lines between heroism and deception.
Hoag’s characterization shines, especially in Annie’s journey as she returns to work after a traumatic event. Her determination to uncover the truth about missing individuals—despite the indifference of local authorities—highlights themes of resilience and justice. Nick’s investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a local hero adds layers of complexity, revealing how past actions haunt present lives.
The atmospheric setting of Louisiana, with its swamps and secrets, enhances the narrative, creating a sense of unease that keeps readers on edge. Hoag’s skillful plotting and pacing maintain tension, leading to a satisfying yet thought-provoking conclusion.
While the resolution leaves some threads untied, this ambiguity fits the novel’s themes. Overall, Bad Liar is a thrilling read that explores the inescapable nature of one’s past and the lies that bind us. Highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers and mystery lovers alike.
Thank you Tami Hoag, Brilliance Publishing, Penguin Group Dutton, and Netgalley for the advanced copy!
I haven't read a Tami Hoag book in many years, but I was so excited to get a copy of this one to read. While I had not read the first two books in this series, I don't really think it's all that necessary as this is considered an interconnected standalone (as far as I know). Tami has a way of telling a story that draws you in and you just feel like you are living in her world. This is a pretty straight forward murder mystery but there are plenty of leads that take you down a rabbit hole with plenty of interesting characters. Nick and Annie are wonderful characters and I enjoyed spending time with them.
Audio narration by Hillary Huber was wonderfully done and the characters were distinctive.
Thank you NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio for access to the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. While I'm not sure police procedurals are a genre I'll visit often... I just prefer more action a faster pace story, this one was absolutely fascinating and once we got towards the end it really picked up and I had a blast reading it.
This definitely didn't end up how I thought it was going to. We got twist after twist as it came to the conclusion and I was blown away by a few happenings. It was a much sadder ended than I expected and hoped for, but it also ended with a note of hope and love and I felt a sense of peace for these characters despite what they went through over the course of this book.
I really loved the audiobook. Hillary Huber did such an amazing job, especially with the accents, it was a joy to listen to her. My only wish is that we had a male narrator too.
I'll be picking up more Tami in the future and probably going back to read the beginning of Nick and Annie's story too.

I am thankful to have gotten the ALC for free from Netgalley and Brilliant Audio so I can leave my voluntary review.
When I saw this ALC posted on Netgalley it took me back to my days where I was in my psychological crime suspense era. Tammy Haig was fav along with the other popular authors of the day of Cornwall, Patterson etc.. I had not realized that she hadn’t produced a Novel in a while and had a horse accident. So I am glad she is back at it!
Now for my personal opinion… I’m clearly not in my crime era any longer as while the book was very well written and all the things it should be, I was bored. This was 100% a me problem! So if you like the genre I totally recommend picking this up when it get released later this month.
The other issue is I read the audiobook and had some trouble. The narrator had a great natural voice but once she put on an accent or did male voices I lost the story. Now it’s hard as the characters had Cajun accents but it was way overboard. It was actually cringy and felt the way it would if someone was poking fun at the dialect and mimicking it.
So while I recommend the book I sadly can’t recommend the audio version.
The book comes out September 24, 2024!
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
