Yours to Take by Vera Kane dives headfirst into dark romance territory, giving us a fierce, spice-filled story that doesn’t hold back on drama or intensity. This three-star read packs in all the intrigue and thrill I love in a romance, but with an edge that might make you question which side of “bad boy” territory Quentin actually belongs on.

Quentin’s all revenge and razor-sharp focus, channeling his pain into a one-man mission to rid Portland’s streets of lowlifes. His darkness should send Anora running in the opposite direction, but when she meets him, she’s not just interested—she’s determined to break through. Quentin may think he’s too far gone for any kind of redemption, but Anora’s betting otherwise. She sees a spark of something redeemable, and she’s more than ready to coax it out—even if it means putting herself in the line of fire.

The chemistry between Quentin and Anora is intense, raw, and yes, spicy. Quentin’s rough edges and Anora’s determination to pull him into the light make for a hot, suspenseful dynamic that kept me flipping pages. And while the book is a bit on the shorter side, Kane doesn’t waste a moment getting to the heat and tension that these two bring out in each other. For those who love a romance that’s as sizzling as it is suspenseful, Quentin and Anora’s push-pull is chef’s kiss.

This one is a quick read with plenty of spice, grit, and that addictive “can’t-stay-away” tension that makes dark romance so good. Perfect for fans of a vigilante hero with an irresistible dark side and a heroine who isn’t afraid to chase after what she wants—even if it’s a bad boy with secrets. If you’re here for the thrills and the heat, Yours to Take has you covered.

“Yours To Take,” by Vera Kane

I didn’t like this book very much unfortunately. It moved so fast and felt like character development and any attachment to the characters I couldn’t build was just not there because of the quickness, and it wasn’t built naturally. 2 out of 5 stars.

Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley.

Banter - snark - sizzle - and maybe a vigilante, and spice, and a little kink thrown in the mix. A bit of action adds to this heated story which is a fast and fun read.

This was a really enjoyable short story.

I thought that the book was well developed and it had a good storyline.

I liked getting to know the characters and their personalities and found that they worked well together.

It was a romantic story that was a little dark and a sexy read.

It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended!

“The moon shines in the darkness. It was made to be cloaked in the shadows, because that’s when it’s the brightest. It’s not scared of the dark, it embraces it.”

Ugh, this book was so cute. I live for the Ghostface references. But I wanted this book to be longer. I want more Quinten & Anita (beautiful name) Also, giving the FMC silver hair THANK YOU!

I really do wish that we got more story but when it comes down to it the plot is their love story. More than what Quinten is doing in his down time.

It’s a great book to sit down and have a cute little dark love story. They both def fall fast and hard.

The spice was 3/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I’m rating 3.5 star overall because I wanted more of these characters story. Like I feel like there COULD be another book. But then it also could just end the way it did too.

This is an ARC read via NetGalley 🤍—Reviews/Opinions are honest and my own. I will review on TIKTOK after release date- @abbi.dawn2

Dark romance reader so yeah I think that answer why I loved this book so much right? But I also agree that this is not a book for everyone but tension and spicy scenes?? Well that I won't complain about it that's for sure.. Also total unhinged but of course I love a masked man and well if you like it try it

"For every girl who has watched Scream and fantasized about Billy Loomis. This one is for you"

Think Haunting Adeline, but with more consent.

After his sister's murder, Quentin sought out to remove every bit of filth from the world. Living the double life of "The Scarlet Vigilante", he had no time for distractions or liability. That was until Anora came into his life ... but he knew the cost that could come with bringing her into his dark world and soul.

I really enjoyed reading this story and learning more about Quentin and Anora. I love a dark man who has a soft side for the one he loves.

My favorite part? The playlist to go along with the book, from Sleep Token to Arctic Monkeys, the selections fit the story perfectly.

The only complaint I have is that some of the story felt rushed through to get to the spice. I wanted more of a build up or story telling in some parts.

Where do I ever begin….Quentin is an anxious cutie who is a bit nervous to talk to Anora but has no problem avenging the family that was stolen from him. A vengeful MASKED man with a soft spot for our main girl? Swoon. I mean, who DOESN’T want a man who will happily kill off the scum of the city but also your bad blind dates that threw temper tantrums? Reading this, I was like a bull….running straight toward the red flags. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

If you’re a fan of Billy Loomis from Scream, and maybe Klaus Mikaelson from The Originals with some spicy spiciness this is the novela for you. Except now I want a full length book and more of my masked hottie.
Thank you #Netgalley and publishers for this ARC.

Klaus Mikaelson + Billy Loomis = Ovaries Exploding!

Set against the moody backdrop of Portland, OR, Vera Kane had my heart racing like I was the typical "white girl" in almost every horror movie running from the killer who then trips and falls with a hurt foot, ankle or whatever.... you know the type of scenes I am talking about.

Quentin was a fresh twist on the character archetype "The Trickster" for me! Mischievous and cunning he disrupts status quo in search of those who harmed and tore the only family he had into and are the dregs of society. Toss in unexpected actions of the man behind the mask and it was a well-balanced Jekyll and Hyde character for me in the best ways. I could easily follow along to who I was reading and when! OH…… AND HE CAN COOK !

Anora, was an odd character in all my favorite ways and bounced between the archetype “The Innocent” and “The Rebel” to being a femme fatale in the mysterious way. I was caught off guard more than once with her reactions to events and knowledge she gained about others. I like that she was portrayed as a woman who readers can easily mentally vision while having a strong will to survive that tosses in twist on how you see her.

Typically, insta-love turns me from a book. I got the insta-love vibes from this, but I liked the overall premises of the story, so I kept reading and I am glad that I did. A reader is easily tricked…. What appears to be insta-love has a woven backstory and foundation to the feelings between Quentin and Anora. Vera Kane did a A+ job on this twist to the main love interest characters.

CHAPTER 15! I LOVED IT! I’ve never been afraid of the dark…. Don’t you dare cry on my bacon! 🔥

That said, I had a two small bones to pick personally.
ONE: Chapter 19. I longed for a way more action and intensity during that climactic warehouse scene—I was ready to be blown away! This was a significant place.....
TWO: The content warnings hinted at some serious dark themes, I felt they did not go as "dark" as warned. This is not a negative though! This allows readers to dip their toes in new waters to test out a new genre! I think it was well delivered for a reader audience looking to branch out of their comfort zone.

Overall, "Yours to Take" is a captivating read that treads very lightly into brackish waters. With really unforgettable characters and some amazing twists to character development, this would be a great read for anyone who is trying to decide if they want to try "Horror style Romance." I will be reading more from this author as well as recommending her work to others.

This book taught me that I need plot, not just smut. I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes and laughed at the sheer absurdity of this book. It's a good thing it was so short because I couldn't handle any more of it. The main characters had zero true chemistry or connection, but somehow were obsessed with one another from very early on. They were both insufferable. Also, spoiler ahead: one of the most hated tropes in any romance occurs in the epilogue. There are several 5 star reviews on goodreads so clearly there's an audience for this, but it's not for me. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I was expecting way more. The "dark romance" was a green bell pepper. There was no world building, and the characters were one dimensional. No idea what the male main character looked like. They barely knew each other and were somehow obsessed with each other already? No build up, no character personality....

Thankfully it was short enough that I finished this mess in 1 hour... so that's a plus.

I was expecting more based on the warnings at the beginning of the book and this was completely underwhelming. 2 stars is being generous.
