What an enjoyable, fake dating, small-town romance. A fun and realistic storyline that will give you all the feels. You will love the characters and the chemistry between Clementine and Austin. This book is well written, heartwarming and entertaining. I highly recommend this book and series.
I read this in a day, I couldn't put it down! I loved this one even more than the previous book in this series (and I ARC read that one too). I knew this one was going to be good.
Austin is an attractive doctor who works at the Miller Family Clinic in the small town of Jasper Creek. Clementine is the middle child of the five Miller children, and she's broken with her family tradition by becoming a Physical Therapist instead of a doctor. Clementine is shy and has trouble expressing what she wants, particularly to the man she's attracted to, her boss. When Austin notices this he jumps into acting like her boyfriend to get her boss to notice her. We all know how fake dating scenarios end!
I love fake dating, it gives so many excuses for touching, kissing and the whole "how do I say that my feelings are real?". I actually really liked that this book didn't go overboard with this trope, however. It made immersing myself in the story easier because it felt realistic. The author didn't invent reasons for the MCs to have to interact as a couple in public. Their interactions felt more organic and natural.
After their fake dating turns into real dating, the two still have some real issues to work through together. Austin was such a wonderful supporter and encourager of Clementine, getting her to come out of her shell, stand in confidence and express herself. Clementine works her way past Austin's defenses and helps him heal from past hurts. I love how Daphne writes characters with such depth. Definitely an author I will keep reading!

Braced for Heartache by Daphne James Huff is the perfect cosy night in read. If your a fan of fake romances then this is the story for you.
The relationship between Austin and Clementine was a joy to read. I found this book morish and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Clementine and Austin embark in a fake relationship to make her boss jealous but feelings get confused and they must decide whether their fake relationship could be something real. The secondary characters add depth, humour and enhance the relationship and dynamic between the two main character.
Very sweet, light romance. There is no spice, just a very sweet and pure romance between two people that are trying to make their own way in the world. I read this in 2 sittings. I enjoyed it. ❤️
I love how supportive and encouraging Austin is and how Clementine found her inner strength and courage, at Austin's insistence.
