A Book review of Tod Bolsinger's book of the same name
Historically church leaders have focused on pleasing our historical stakeholders. This is borne out locally for me. In one of the established churches, there is a memorial for something not Christian.
Tod outlines from the very beginning that the way we are doing church is not working,
Instead of undergoing transformation in order to be more effective in their mission to serve the world, organizations unconsciously reinforce the very status quo that is not working.
and he states that we as church leaders - our primary goal is to develop our own capacity to lead our people through the transformation necessary to face the challenges of a changing world.
As with all the titles in the series he gives us this framework to think through our own particular ministries:
1. Disrupting an old mindset (which leads to)
2. Practicing a new skillset (which leads to)
3. Embodying an adaptive reset (a new habit for adaptive leadership)
“Leadership is not domination, but the art of persuading people to work toward a common goal.”
Daniel Goleman,
I am working my way through a set of problems. Each one looks like it stands alone but at the core of each of them is the same feeling. How do I, as a leader, traverse this sticky wicket? How can I change the mindset of the group to allow for change? Not just allow but welcome change.
Caleb thought differently,34 When the Lord heard what you said, he was angry and solemnly swore: 35 “No one from this evil generation shall see the good land I swore to give your ancestors, 36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly.”
Deut 1: 34-36
